I have this exact setup, but after a lot of experimentation, I use the internal calibration on the iloud MTM's and I boost the bass and high end on the Kali in5's. Both have distinctive characteristics and together they are formidable for mixing. The Kali's seem to push vocals, snares and things in that range forward, much like Yamahas. Also, the Kali's seem to have a narrower stereo field. When compared to the ilouds, the Kali stereo field seem to fold/pull to ward center (you can hear this in the demo above on some audio sources). Also, the ilouds have a smoother, softer sounding low low end that reveal things the Kali's do not. Some of this reveal is on verbs, delays, and reflections; you can really hear the detail. The comparison is interesting because on some audio selections you can hardy tell any difference, but on others one can hear a definite difference As I mentioned, A/B'ing off both works really well. My observation is that if I can get something sounding really good on both, I'm gold. If I had to choose between the two, it would be the iloud MTM's, but I would miss having both to work with.

This is great info, as someone who has Kali LP-6 I'm often wondering if I should upgrade to IN-5, but the MTM's were always appealing to me, considering I'm in a small room (listening triangle of about 1.5m max) and can't listen loud at all because I'm in an apartment building. I use them as my music listening source after decades of various hifi components (had triodes, audio note speakers, Sonus Fabers, musical fidelity amps etc). The LP-6 are stunning already. I'm playing around with some amateur vocal recording too as a hobby.

You literally feel like you have a third speaker in front of you. I dont know what make this happen in this speaker .. probably dsp linear phase for crossover.. but trust me thoses speaker kill everything from 0 to 1000$ easily

@tarkgundogdu8940 Жыл бұрын
I guess you can fix them with equalization. Kalis have zero hissing sound (they really improved on that with the recent v2 models and I liked it). Actually all the models have pros and cons tbh: IK Multimedia -> small form factor (really should be taken into account) : not clear enough, no flat response (vs the others) Kali -> zero hiss, 3 way, clear sound : crossover frequency, build quality problems Adam (T7V) -> better build quality, nice trebles : hissing sound, not exactly flat but mixing can be learnt on them Yamaha -> clear sound, high build quality, less hissing sound : fatiguing to listen for longer periods of time Presonus Eris 7 XT -> class AB amps, nice stereo image : heating (due to being AB), hissing sound etc I think picking monitors according to one's own budget and then spending some on room treatment, learning the monitors' response and getting used to it is the ideal solution.

Do Dayton Audio B652-AIR vs Monoprice MP-65RT. I did a video a/b switching between the two in an abandoned house last week. I was surprised the windows96 track I played sounded pretty good for being recorded on a potato. I wish I would have re-directed my speaker hording funds into buying a quality audio recorder to flesh out the video a little more with proper a/b sound samples.

The iLoud's do sound great, BUT, Kali has better mids... yet there's a dip in the highs -- I don't think it's that of a big deal and is really mostly inconsequential. The Kali is a better value deal, IMO, as you get more SPL (with less compression for transient peaks and distortion). It also has a better overall DIRECTIVITY given it's three-way concentric design -- if one is tight in space and looking for something portable, then I'd pick the small MTM.

@srenschmidt15553 жыл бұрын
Did you buy the Alpha 65's? How do you like them? Would also like to know the size of your listening room.
@18CC3 жыл бұрын
@@srenschmidt1555 Yes, I think Focal are the lower price for professionals. I use them for a year now. I like the fact they go to 40Hz. The alpha evo65 are better because of the Class D amplification and they added the most asked features. I have a 18m² room so I can't do a good acoustic treatment. 30m² is the minimal surface recommended to build a professional studio. My room is my living room so it's not empty and I dont have a lot of resonance. I think it's very important to have a good OPENED headphone. Maybe more important to spend money in the best headphone before monitors. Because the monitor will be really room dependent and an acoustic treatment isn't always possible like for me. If it's possible It cost a lot of money to control the low frequencies. In 1 year i will buy genelec 8350 with calibration. For more headroom and precision. At this price and with this frequency range, Focal alpha65 are the best by far. I just bought for them two Vovox cables ( cost the price of one alpha 65 XD ) so you can understand how I am happy with them.

Kalis clear winner here, hands down. The iLoud suffers from the same problem of all other monitors bellow the 1.000 usd range. Muffled mids, hyped and unclear bass and highs to compensate the lack of mid clarity. The only monitor I've seen bellow 1.000 usd to be able to overcome this is the Kalis, especially with their 3 way system.

The MTMs sound great, just not in the video. (Otherwise, Lurssen Mastering wouldn't be using them). Compared to the MTMs in my room, the MTMs in the video sound more boxy because of the room (in the video) and "cheaper". They also sound like they are 14 to 16" wide compared to mine that are 34" wide (middle of tweeter to middle of tweeter). Plus all the mid/side detail is there of the original song on my speakers. I'm sure it sounds much better in the original room than the video though. IIRC, I bought my MTMs based on a previous video from this channel and some other ones from pro studios. I wish I had bought them when they first came out.
