IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE TAGALOS LEARNED OR COPIRE THE SPANISH TECHNIQUES SINCE THE SPANIARDS PLANNED THE PHILIPPINES 500 YEARS
@francesco71685 жыл бұрын
it is not just possible its a fact that spanish and tagalog/visayan blade arts influenced eachother. The spanish left a huge mark in our terminologies in FMA, not just in our filipino names. A lot of the names, basic strikes, stances and excercises are similar. But i digress, maybe its just the names also since many combative arts in the world, when passed down thru generations, retain what is useful (most of the time when put into the context of where and when the art originated).

@@francesco7168 If we were influenced by the spanish martial arts it was not rapier fencing...more likely military saber since the rapier was not a military weapon. I remember reading something on this debate i believe through a HEMA website if im not mistaken.

@@peekaboojujitsoo525 Yup sabers, in the Bicol province the blades called Minasbads look like spanish sabers and at the same time i was looking at the basic strikes of military sabers it was very similar to basic strikes of some FMA schools. It would be interesting to learn more about this, I'd love to find out too! thanks for your reply!

@@francesco7168 here's the link to the article that I read a few years ago www.thearma.org/essays/influence.htm#.XXn3s2Qza8o Researching and learning about martial arts especially our own is fascinating.
