The cool thing that I observed is that during the mahabharath, Ashwathama (Big B's character) actually killed the wife of Abhimanyu, who was actually pregnant during her execution. [Abhimanyu is Arjun's son]. So when Lord Krishna found out about this, he cursed Ashwathama with immortality. Now we can see in the trailer that Ashwathama is protecting a pregnant woman. This shows that Nag Ashwin has beautiful writing, keeping in tune with the mythology.

This movie is based on the Sanskrit scriptures called 'Purãņa' which says when in this age all of earth will be engulfed by evil, and even the sacred rivers of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati will be dried, the Supreme consciousness, which came as Lord Krishna before, will come again as Kalki. Sadly, the river Saraswati has already been dried up around 4000 years ago, and Yamuna also seems to be drying. This also emphasizes what Lord Krishna has said in the BhagwadGeeta. The best thing I liked about this movie and the vision of the director Nag Ashwin is that he is making it so accurate to the scriptures. For example, Deepika Padukone which is pregnant with Kalki, her name shown in thr bounty is 'SUM-80' and in the scriptures, kalki's mother will be 'Sumati'. The city shown is in India, its called Kashi/Banaras/Varanasi where the river Ganga flows in present day. The trailer also showed the banks of Kashi where the river is no more, still people are doing cremation rituals as shown in the trailer.

Its a marathi movie based on one of many stories of the great Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his brave soldiers. It would be great if u get your hands on it (something different from typical bollywood movies!😉)

I noted you said you worked in visual effects, so I thought id share my own review of the trailer with emphasis on the VFX. That is a very original, uniquely Indian high concept sci fi plot, which has shades of Dune, Star Wars, Brave New world, Mad Max and Elysium. However, the trailer doesn't leave much hope that Kalki 2898 will join these Sci fi classics. The biggest problem I have is the rather amateruish VFX work, which is surprising as it has 5 top VFX studios behind it. The colour grading is off, an obvious attempt to create a Duneesque world with warmer red and yellow tones, seems to have gone a bit overboard making it look too digitized. The use of digital mattes(that is digitial paintings of backround elements like skies) is too obvious. The use of green screen is stark, especially in the opening shot of the city. There are some big problems with rotoscoping(that is when a live element is cut out and rotoscoped into a CGI element) This looks very obvious during the scene when the actor jumps on a flying mobile and out of the Bujji super car. There are some decent shots in there, but no shots lasts for more than a fraction of a second, so nothing really wows. That is a shame, because the biggest USP for India's most expensive movie and first Star Wars like Sci fI was going to be the visual and special effects. It is a let down for me, and while it may wow Indians who are not use to seeing this kind of technology in Indian movies, it is going to seem very passable and unexciting to an international audience use to Hollywood standards. The next biggest problem is the confused and messy tone of the trailer. It begins on a very solemn note unveiling a dark deprived world and then epic music starts to herald the coming of the avatar, and then all of a sudden switches to becoming goofy, comedic, with showing mindless action scenes and cringey dialogue. Then switches again to some epic sci fi showdown to end the trailer and introducing the villain, the supreme Yaskin, whispering "a new age is coming" Overall, this was a pretty badly cut and edited trailer, that shows very little, and fails to create any real excitement. The director has gone on record and said he made this movie for an international audience, which is all the all more questionable why he would cut a trailer like this. I think the director is deliberately holding back because he wants the audience to experience the movie, but he should have put his best foot forward.
