Got mine with the samaris bowl. Took about 3 tries to figure out how to pack it just right without it burning the sheesha, but smoked 2.5 hours with no additional coals starting with 3, with good flavor, added just 1 additonal coal and got another 1.5 hours with still really good flavor. The bowl cleaned out really easily especially for the design. For the lotus, I take it straight to the sink and wash it with water and a steel pad and it comes out looking like new in about 2 minutes if that. Paid about 25 bucks so meh, but made it so much easier, lasts so much longer, saves so much on coals and foils it was well worth the investment. I'd give it a 4.8 out of 5 mainly bc it takes so long to get hot.

@Yacoub A there is a lip at the top for the metal bowl to sit on. I pack it to that height, put the metal part on top and spin it around to see if any sheesha is gonna get stuck. With time, the bowl has spread a bit so I can't pack it quite as high, but still get great use out of it and still highly recommend.

A nice heavy duty copper brush works wonders to clean the tobacco off the bottom of the Lotus. Make sure the brush is copper if you do try using it because copper is a softer metal than steel and will not score the lotus

Another benefit other than the long lasting coals, good taste, no burning, is that when you sit outside the air/wind doesnt blow off the coals..

why would you overpack your bowl and "just put it in there " Your top layer will burn in like 5 minutes ruining the shitload of tobacco you have put in that bowl.

Isnt the point of this to keep from scorching your shisha? It looks like it scorched all over the place if you have to scrape the bowl with tongs or a grill brush to get all of that off

Hi John, what coals are you using? I use coco nara flats in my kaloud and I can't get any clouds after 45mins or so. If I throw in new coals (replace the old ones) it gets going again. Any tips/recommendations?

i just bought the kaloud lotus and it works pretty decent but i prefer the foil i dont know why but i get more clouds and flavor from the foil, and one question hookah john is there a cheap copy of the kaloud lotus? cause maybe i bought the fake one thats why its not performing very well

Thanks for doing this review and demonstration John! You can get the Kaloud Lotus clean by just soaking it in hot water from the tap for about 5 minutes and then scrubbing the remnants off the bottom.

I know the purpose of the lotus is to not use foil and etc but why not try it with foil on the bowl with the lotus on top.. Might sound dumb but it saves cleaning time on the kaloud and never gets dirty

Because if you use foil with the lotus you block the air vents on the bottom of it that help transfer heat evenly across your shisha. At that point you are paying $50 for the lotus because it vents air and heat, and then removing its vents and heating. You might as well save the cash and just use foil then honestly

I think you overpacked the bowl, thats why the tobacco burned and got stuck in the lotus. Ive been smoking with lotus for quite a while now and is by far my fav HMD... You would need only 3 coals at the start and go down to 2 when the smoke is good... and my comment also doesnt make sense im commenting on a 8 yr old video lol

How do you deal with the clean up after? The tobacco sticks to the bottom of the Kaloud. I like using foil along with the Kaloud Lotus.

Yes, it takes a bit longer to heat up, but they work like a charm especially with the Shiazo.

Hey John, Recommendation, put the lotus on the coil when you are lighting your coals. then throw it on your bowl when your coals are lit. INSTANT 5/5 clouds

What I do to clean it is that I leave it under warm running water for a bit and use a wire sponge or brush to get off the rest of the stuff.

Yeah i bought this and with 2 medium cube coals and first 15 mins were great then it was super harsh and i had to dump it.ill either try it on foil with holes or ill simply go back to foil.not sure if the charcoal size has anything to do with with.

I wouldn't use steel wool only because I wouldn't want to scratch it. I use soap and just a dish scrubbing brush... easy and cleans it.

Had mine 2 months the bottom is still clean, At first I think I put too much flavour in the bowl and it stuck so I was scrubbing off the black bits with some steel wool, But now my Lotus always comes out clean because I leave a few MM's between the flavour and the bottom of the Lotus and it still works, My advice is to leave a few MM's of gap between the flavour and lotus and you should have a clean lotus, Also I don't wash mine straight away I let it sit on the bowl once I've done until I next smoke it (Unless I need to smoke again before it cools down)

If you use less tobacco, you won't have to deal with the major cleaning issue. Also using a Vortex Pyrex head makes it much, much easier because of the way it's packed. They smoke better on a Pyrex head than any other head I've used it on.

I got one as a gift and tried using it a frew times but i hate it. Restricted air flow, annoying to set up/clean, and it has a wierd metal taste to it. Thats just my opinion but i dont recomend getting it. I still havent gotten my Kaloud in yet but when i do ill let you know how it smokes.

I used to have same problem as you. depending on what bowl u use I use the Egyptian bowl and I always break up the tobacco really good and sprinkle it in there. then I put 2 layers of aluminum foil. start making holes on the edge of the bowl and keep a little distance between the holes so there won't be a lot of heat going through.

ray Crespin same bowl, same flavor can take up to 3 sets of 3 coals before you need to repack in my own experience. I do however prefer to just keep it at 2 sets of 3 coals and then repack.

Try drinking water for a few days before and making sure you eat something 1-2 hours before your session. I usually drink a pot of tea during my session and nosh on grilled cheese or something and haven't had that problem sense.

No, and no... Don't get me wrong, I HIGHLY doubt he got 3 hours out of it, and over all hookah john isn't that reliable in my opinion (Sorry man), but still you're wrong. The average session of hookah lasts 45 minutes to 1 hour, you can even get more life from the tobacco if you rotate coals and manage heat properly (around 1 hour 30 minutes). If your session is over in 20 minutes you either have a tiny bowl with practically no shisha, or you are burning it too fast. Secondly the water in your base should only rise about an inch above the bottom of your stem, which you can cleary see at 7:09 he has done. If you put more water in the base the draw will become much harder, and overall less enjoyable.
