I think the problem you're having is judging a book by its cover. Sure, he's black, but he was adopted at 6 weeks old by a hawaiian auntie and grew up in Maui. He studied, breathed, lived and grew up in the Hawaiian culture. He may not look Hawaiian, but his culture is. I've worked with him in the past and he's as good as he sounds here and grateful for what he has, not taking the Aloha for granted.
