In this entire episode what caught me was the Panthuvarali score in Rajaparvai.. As I had noted earlier I a not a fan of Raja., yet that was the first time I clapped in the theatre after the score.. Thoroughly enjoyed your talk. That you are huge fan of Kamal is evident. Who is not? Ilayaraja himself has acknowledged Kamal's excellent knowledge of Carnatic music. Moreover, SPB has appreciated Kamal's high-pitch reach (e.g. pottu vaitha kaadhal thittam). Another forte of Kamal is his ability to blend his acting talent into his singing, e.g. Sonnapadi kelu, Margo margo (from sathi leelavathi), Raja kaiya vetcha, etc. Keep them coming, Gurucharan!

Hello Guru, Solid analysis as always. Your down to earth approach talking in our mother tongue Tamil in all your videos is something great and reaching our hearts. I have seen Sudba Raghunathan’s KZbin channel, she speaks only English. Who are they trying to satisfy.. Many channels are like that. Pure hypocrisy. Thank you so much for bringing our Ilaiyaraja’s compositions including his exceptional BGMs. Hope you read this and when you come to Houston,TX, I’ll mention this comment if we get a chance to meet. Just fyi, another milestone of Raja is, his interludes are different from one another in a song. Before him, they repeat the first interlude in the 2nd in each song, but Raja changed it from day one.

Excellent!! Very nicely compiled and demonstrated! Potta padiyidu padiyidu sruthi change hahahaa! Although this is a tribute to Kamal (big Kamal fan here), the Ilayaraja connection is evident across all these examples. Another song with this combo is Enna Samayalo, where with 4 ragams, they explain the entire cooking journey. Update: Ohhh just noticed there's a part one to this with an extensive coverage of Unnal mudiyum thambi. Idho varen.

Your Veera Vikram’s interpretation was mind blowing and perhaps amongst the most unique observations I have come across!! Same goes for your Panthiuvarali take and performance!!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 Speaking of Panthuvarali and Rajaparvai violin piece, I must mention I’ve always heard Andhi Mazhai in Panthuvarali (hang over from violin piece) and never in Vasantha. Instead of MMMM G3M1D2MG3 I hear SSSS N3SG3SN3 of a Raaga (Panthuvarali minus R), perhaps Ramani? This is because of the Janaka Raaga Gruhabedham from Suryakantha to Lathangi. Because of absence of P in Vasantha, we don’t need the R2 of Lathangi, so it could very well be Panthuvarali minus R. Weird, I know :) While I am more than familiar with songs of Sathya & Indrudu Chandrudu, I have never seen those films, now I will!! About Guna, what can I say? Superlative in all aspects. Your literary prowess decoding the Andaadi part is highly enlightening 🙏🏽🙏🏽 and I am sure you are in awe of the Hamsanaada/Saaranga Tarangini BGM, soul stirring indeed. I too came to know about Pavani Raaga thru the Partha Vizhi song. Not just that. This was also a revelation that there are film songs are out there in Kandachaapu Thaala. While on this topic I must share a hugely underrated Raaja sir’s gem of song in Chandrajyothi and Misrachaapu. It is dubbed from a Telugu song. The great SPB should have swept all the awards under the sun for this. The KZbin version sounds like it is 1 RPM slow… please listen when you have a chance kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4PThZiIetVssJY Thank you for enlightening us. In that typical "ponnu paakara" setting, when Vasundra Das starts to sing Vaishnava Janato, first her paati will be afraid "ava romba mela eduthuta, pisura poradhu". And right after she delivers the highest note, she would turn back to smile at her paati. Cute, for sure. Another case of indha scene irundhirukala na, the audience wouldn't have known any better. But avlo unnipa carnatic music gavanichu, purinjudu andha scene direct panninadhu, will forever remain special!
