Aside from the decision seeing Khamzat absolutely stream roll Usman in round 1 with grappling speaks volumes on what he will do to most other fighters he comes up against, but the question is now, can those fighters survive round one? because if they can, then Chimaev better work on his gas tank asap. I had it a draw with Usman winning the second and third and Chimaev winning the first 10-8. But not a robbery, round three was still very close and I understand how the takedown decided it for judges who weren't sure. I think it's weird that Chimaev got the benefit of the doubt despite Usman being the one who took it on a weeks notice though. Du Plessis vs Strickland next.

Round 1: Chimaev Round 2: Usman Round 3: Usman *I agree with the Guru. I can see the 10-8 for Chimaev in the first round (making the match a 28-28 tie) however I can see it going 10-9 (meaning Usman wins 29-28). Regardless, I was thinking the same exact thing. Why is it that control time only matters for Dagestani fighters now? But whenever any other grappler controls without damage, people call it a robbery against the striker? Chimaev didn't do any damage in the 2nd or 3rd rounds. Usman actually landed some pretty good 2-3 punch combos.

As much as the first round was exciting, round 2 and 3 was very disappointing. The fight was close, and neither really took any risk or tried to really get the finish. A bit of brawling in the last seconds... But things went very stale after the first round and not sure Khamzat has a good 5 rounds in him.

To be honest i think there are many fighters who could do the same thing as chimaev in round 1 but they have enough experience /common sense to realise it's bad strategy. If you don't get the win in round 1 you're gassed for the rest of the fight

I'm curious how hot that arena is in the middle of the desert. I know they have those custom giant AC units to cool the place but who knows how well they keep the place cool, the heat could play a heavy role in performance.

Usman seemed way too hesitant. If he let the hands fly maybe he could have got the W. It’s really hard to give it to him though because it really wasn’t until round 3 he starting getting some good strikes
