It's better than the snoozefests that were Skyrider and Super-1 at the very least, but V3, X, Amazon, Ryuki, W, the original 1971 series, and especially Stronger are all far better than Black imo. Jesus christ, thr stunts in this episode is just mind blowing. Jumping off the 3rd or 4th floor just for a back flip. Being tied to strings to be lifted up in the air to make it look like they're Jumping very high. And especially the crane fight where you can see the suit actors holding onto the rail because they have no safety harness. I give them so much props foe their crazy stunts!!

Not a major story spoiler, but a later episode spoiler... He would use this same trick again for more practical purposes. Using a Kingstone generates a lot of heat, so transforming directly next to something highly flammable/volatile is a bad idea. In order to escape a bad situation, Kotaro transforms mid-fall both to dissipate the heat, and to put some physical distance between him and some planted explosives.

It is sometimes weird to think that there was only a 3 year gap between ZX and Black. If you watch the ZX movie and compare it to the first episode of Black, you would think that there was more than a decade between them.

The quality of the tokusatsu shows of Toei vastly improved in 1984 upwards when they've hired former employees of Tsuburaya Productions and more inputs from Bandai and PLEX..Kamen Rider Black's costume designer was Keita Amemiya of GARO fame so its expected high quality from it.

Kurata lost a lot of respect from me when he said he doesn't want to be associated with KR even though he's coasting on his popularity there. Hell, his steakhouse is filled will KR Black memorabilia and serves Black & RX-themed steaks as part of the menu. It's best to separate the actor from the character. Although, I can't imagine how people like Ren Kiriyama took to this revelation.

I love the creativity and cleverness showcased in Tokusatsu because simple solutions like putting this costume on a dog work so well and save money for where it is needed most. I hadn't even noticed the trick on my own. Someone pointed it out to me after I had seen the episode multiple times.
