Oddly enough, the Sky Turbo sees more uses than a good chunk of the bikes in the entire franchise, even with a good number of Showa ones. Being the Rider that basically trademarked the Rider Break helps. Skyrider is quite reliant on the thing. Of course, having most of his flying abilities scrapped in the 2nd half of the show due to the powerup (and the resulting inability to reuse the flying stock footage) just made the bike all that much more important.

Sky Rider was my first exposure to the world of Kamen Rider in the early 80's. I didn't get to see it. I read about it in a fanzine called Japanese Fantasy Film Journal, and then I sent the guy who wrote that, my drawing of Sky Rider, asking him who he was. And he wrote back to me, via a letter, with a stamp, telling me all about it! As a soft reboot (maybe too soon), he's kind of the most generic Showa rider, but I still have a place in my heart for this Kamen Rider. Last year, Bandai released a 50th Anniversary (of the series) figurine in both this early version (muted swamp colors) and his later (brighter colors) version. I chose this version. I think he looks great in this first episode!

As they do in rider after a few years the brand dies down from a lackluster season or general disinterest. Sky rider was supported to be a big budget high flying reboot but it was tanking in the ratings. Rider 1 was so iconic, even then, that the fans refused to call the new guy Kamen Rider and just called him sky rider instead. Since filming had not completed when the show was airing they rushed out a crossover episode and made the name sky rider official. By being the first show to have series continuity as well as an all rider special the show finished rather strong and kept the series going for years

The Totsu ECG system was used mostly for chromakeys, and used videotapes instead of film composition. That explains why the totsu cuts have more blurry motion. It's due to the 60i videotape-to 24p film transfer. Toei stopped using it around Megaranger's 1st dozen of episodes: most precisely, the chapter where Megared almost caused Megablack's death due to his idiocy had the last totsu cuts. After that, Toei switched to inhouse digital composition and transfer to reel until Gaoranger where they shifted entirely to digital processes and stopped using film reels for the final product.

This was a pretty solid first episode. I'm surprised Tsukuba wasn't gonna go nuts like how Spawn did when everything he had was taken from him. As free as the wind and free spirited while Neo Shocker was represented by bones as you can see from the inside of their HQ. They really have nothing but darkness in their hearts while Tsukuba whilst losing his family 3 years prior to the show (I find it strange considering any main character's family would have bit the dust either at a young age or being born at the time and lived with a relative) and not to mention,having his friends taken away from him and dreaming of what could have been had he not rescued the doctor whilst having his body reconstructed, he understands that life is shortlived so his demeanor showcases that. It doesn't always have to be tell but the show really shows his character pretty well. I'm surprised of the symbolism within the designs of this show tbh.

To me, the action and fight choreography in Naruto. Feel a lot more in line with Kamen Rider than Dragon Ball Z. Since the manga includes a mask that has a Kamen Rider Mask in it. This is only in the manga. I think Kamen Rider was also an inspiration for Naruto. With the fight choreography. That my might be a theory about the Naruto series in my opinion.

Taí um Rider que poderia ter passado no Brasil antes do Black. Os efeitos especiais eram ótimos pra época (1979). Claramente uma nova geração, o Sky Rider era chamado simplesmente de Kamen Rider nos primeiros episódios... A única coisa que eu não gosto dessa série é a Neo Shocker, que além de não aprender com os erros do passado é menos assustadora que a organização original (apesar do massacre que ocorre nesse episódio).

Why did Toei decided to produce a Kamen Rider that could fly? Obviously to catch on the hype of the wildly successful Superman movie by Christopher Reeve. Skyrider was released just 1 year after Superman movie in 1978. Had the series been successful, we would be seeing a flying Super-1 and ZX as well.

I just realized that each Showa Rider got their own way of tragedy, shaping the heroic nature in them: + Ichigo: got abducted and modified against his own will. Force to fight an endless Battle while witnessing his friends die one by one (he even rejects Ruriko, the only one who loved him deeply, and left her in Europe after the event that almost cost her life in “Kamen Rider Spirits”) + Nigo: force to use violence force, something which he hate most to fight against evil. The only reason he got saved due to the loneliness of Hongo, and also as the way to retain Hongo’s humanity. +V3: his sister and parents got brutally murdered in front of his eyes. + X: lost his father, his girlfriend, and his girlfriend’s half sister + Amazon: the village that saved him when he was a baby got massacre. + Stronger: lost his best friend (who was a failed test subject), and his loved one (Tackle) + Skyrider: lost his parents and his close friends. + Super-1: he lost his family in a Space Exploration Project. The doctor that he saw as a father got massacre, along with his coworkers in “S-1 Project”, and his friends in shaolin temple (his master and old senior) + ZX: he lost his beloved sister, the only relative he got left, in the hand of Badan. + Black: his youthful got destroyed since the day he got modified into a Kaijin. Force to leave his relatives behind, and fight the one that he considered “brother” to the death.
