Would have to be the best ships captain I have ever saw dock a ship in any weather, I was a merchant seaman for 30 years and never saw a skipper dock like this especially I’m rough weather
Kudos to this experienced Captain and crew. Excellent vid!

The captain deserves a medal, and the dockworkers too. That was terrifying.

@MoanyOldBustard I realise it wasn't a gale, but the ship could have easily had a mishap. It is not a good thing to be heaving about like that so close to the jetty. The captain and wharfies all did an exemplary job.
This is what happens when the quayside is open to the sea, it looks like they need a proper harbour wall there so they can have calmer and safer conditions when loading and unloading.
Looking at a map of Miyake-shima... I think the challenge here is that, as Miyake is an ancient volcano, the seabed drops away very quickly. This means that a) big swells can occur right up to the shore and b) it would be massively difficult to build a breakwater as it would probably have to be at least 50m deep before it started to clear the surface (just a guesstimate) if it was any distance from the shore. I think that is probably why this very specialised approach is necessary, dangerous though it may look to some eyes.
