This is probably the most beautiful version that I heard, and I heard a lot of different interpretation on this subject, however there os something that is bothering me. Origin of this song is known and it's not folk song. Song is from WW2 and has a really sad and powerful story behind it. I don't know is there any sources in English that you can find so here is the story. During Worl War 2 Balkan was divaded more than ever. This is reagion that blooms in different cultures, people and religions. Extremist group of Catholic people who greeted Nacis, caled Ustaše had concentration camp Jasenovac for Ortodox folks and Romi as well. On Day of Saint George or Đurđevdan that is very respected in both Ortodox and Romi's tradition Ustaše forcefully put them on train of death as it os called, train for Jasenovac. Half of people didn't even make it to Jasenovac due to overcrowding the train so they suffocate. One young man, probably Rom sing this sange on spot whit original lyrics Spring is landing on my shoulder Djurdjevak is blooming(djurdjevak is flower that blooms on Đurđevdan and it is omen that spring has come) Djurdjevak is blooming for everyone except me. It is song full of sorrow and at the same time love for life, it is also rebellious act, going to meet potential torture and almost certain death and still singing and celebrating life. We know about this song because of Goran Bregović, good Kusturica's friend, musician in Yugoslovenian rock band called Bijelo Dugme. He knew someone who survived Jasenovac and had same birthplace as people who that day was on the train so he wrote down the song, introduce it to all Yugoslovenian but after decided that this song should be simbol of Romi in Balkan and theirs victims in WW2 so lyrics was transferred on Romi's language and has meaning that is more familiar and that you had a chance hearing in Kusturica's movies. This song is about every victim of those horrible ideas but also perfectly represents the spirit of Balkans. Thank you for your attention and I hope we all learn something new everyday. Also excuse my English, I'm not native speaker but I'm trying to improve everyday.

@@JohnWeirdoe I read whole article and I can't find nice word for it. Someone who knows nothing about way Balkans live talks about how Balkans live. It has a lot of informations that are not important for song and it's origin but are put there to spin the story and do I don't even know what. Anyway song definitely has origin that is known so it's not folk song, has autor whit name.

@@marina8514 Well, interesting take. I'm not an expert on Balcans nevertheless I read about this topic a lot and especially on history of region. I'm not here to argue on any of that. Most important thing is that song is a gypsy perspective.
@marina85144 жыл бұрын
@@JohnWeirdoe I agree on that, song is very important part of Balkan Romi's culture but also you cannot forget what this song means to all other people in Balkan and here I'm not thinking about War criminals and theirs widows. Believe it or not they are not much loved here. Also I would say if you read about history here after Ww2, it's still not history, a lot of people are still considering history of this reagion very personal story and are trying to affect the way the story is told. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.

This had a similar effect on me as stepping into cold water, as others have said, it touches your soul.
