Looks great! I really like the series. I almost got one, but ended up with the Queen knife. They really do look nice though. Just cut my self when you said that (-_-)

I got the cinnomin bone stag barlow & the black parts in the bone came off rather easy. Was using 3 in 1 oil working the action & just cleaning in general but that was over a year ago. Still like the knife

I have the Tiger model because I like Tigers, but it is on the big side for my taste. I have the Camillus Remington monster R4243. Because it is so big, I really like it for that and it is very well made. The Boy Scout model they sell now is a China made one and it is my favorite. It has five blades with a straight Philips head screwdriver blade. It has no bail however, I bought the belt case they sell for it. It is very well made and has no match striker pulls and the cool Boy Scout shield and blade etching. I bought a Cub Scout one too; it is as well made as the Boy Scout knife and has a bail. I thought they might stop making them and bought two of each. However, they are still selling them for a price Kids can afford. That is great they do that and made me like them even more. ⚜👦⚜

I like the pattern, not thrilled with the handles, I'd prefer, all cinnamon or all black, but that's me. Thanks for sharing. P.S. Do you much about Congress blades, Robert Klass or Kissing Kranes?

Classic style camp knife. Bone always looks good, as opposed to just plain steel. And I don’t reckon I’d try to clean with anything….just let wear in whatever way with time and use 😊. Thanks for the review Tobias.

Some of the other knives in the Cinnamon Bone Stag series do have a problem with the black rubbing off without much effort. It looks like yours is an exception.

Thanks Jimmy J. I have a second one. I have not really done much with it yet as I've just been too busy to give it a close look. We'll see how the Barlow holds up.

I love mine, but I might do what Tobias did to one of his scout knives and grind down the bottle opener a little so it’s not so proud. But I love the carbon steel. I have the canoe in the same cinnamon bone stag, and I sanded some of the burnt blackness off of it. I went a little too much on the sanding and you can see some tooling marks on the bone. Oh well, I still love it.

The scout pattern is such a piece of history , i spent a bit of cash a year or so ago and grabbed a Boker sportmesser in elk. Just to own what i consider the best.

Good idea. When Boker does "high level" stuff, they do classy , collectible, pieces that are worth the cost

The ring to attach to a hook in the backpack is handy to keep knife from falling to the bottom or the ground

Well that didn't rubb off as quickly as in some other video's, even with oil applied. The Cinnamon Bone Stag really is nice looking cover material. The huge canopener coul very well be replaced by the older style version in my opinion. All in all a nice made camp knife. Thank you Tobias.

It was great to hear your thoughts on this one. And I really like the can opener mod you did on the tiger stripe model, it makes the knife look a little more ergonomic in my opinion. Cheers, buddy!

That's a nice looking knife. The cinnamon bone stag makes it stand out. One question Tobias, why do some of these knives use high carbon steel as opposed to stainless? You'd figure that the outdoor environment they are used in has them exposed to lots of moisture, so stainless would be a better choice?
@1stfloorguy59

It's easier sharpening. Better edge retention with carbon. Plus, rust isn't really an issue once it patinas correctly. Now, if you do leave it to rust, it will just get rusty. But I've had carbon steel that just gets dark dull greyish. That dull color introduces some more resistance to the elements. Just wiper her off when you're done. It's all preferences really. How much better edge retention t10 has over 440a all depends on the heat treats.

I like RR bone stag , it looks great. I just received 6 bone stag bow trappers from smkw for gifts and one to keep . $100 , that’s really inexpensive. You can pinch the blade and pop it open without using the nail pull . I like what I see in the big camp knife it can do a lot in the woods. I’ll get one for my outdoors girl

This style of knife never gets old to me. I found an old Cub Scout camp knife made by Camillus. It has carbon blades and I really like it. I will admit it’s tired and not in pristine condition but I didn’t buy to use. I may make a video on it and will let you know when it’s posted.

On the first black bone version did I see correctly that the pen knife point protrudes above the scale when closed just slightly?

I can’t honestly say as I may not have that particular knife. What I can say is I wouldn’t be surprised if the blade was slightly proud. At one time I had four of those. I now only have one and that one has been altered. The cap lifter was modified so that it could actually open a bottle and it does appear I filed down the kick so the blade would drop deeper in the handle. I revisited this pattern later and pointed out several issues. This is what happened when SMKW let a graphic artist with limited knife making experience build a knife instead of a person who knew what he was doing. It looked great but there were several minor issues. I really need to revisit this knife. The Kamp King legacy deserves a better namesake.

Some work with a Dremel can turn the bottle opener into a good strap/gut cutter.

Very True. Seems to me, they should be doing this at the factory as this is supposed to be an "Improved Scout knife!"

"Coming of age" in the 50's my first real knife was the Cub scout folder...still have it & my scout folding knife & my demo knife c. 1969 as well. I have had an affair with these types of camp knives for a very long time. lol My latest one is the Ulster WWII US Mountain Pocket Knife for the Special Ops troops (Devil's Brigade, Ski Troops, Special Forces: Silvey book p108), a grail knife to me. That bone stag one is a good looking knife that will function well as per your review thank you. I can't speak to what smkw is selling but if what they say is true they owe it all to you Tobias. You have been a one man Champion (no pun intended) toward the Camp knives. Thanks again Tobias.

Thanks for the kind words. The pattern is well worth the investment. The fact that you can get like new USA made one on the secondary market often for less that a currently produced Chinese made one is also something knife folks need to consider. To paraphrase Red/Green "if the knife guys don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy!"

Im.seeing the cinnamon bone Stan advertised as 3.63". Even online knife sellers are conflicting on whether it is 3.63" or 4.25".😢

Yup, nice package. The cinnamon is a cool color and texture. Cool enough to get the whole series? Meh, probably just be happy with one in the cotton sampler pattern I already got. The half stops on this thing are stiff!

Hi Tobias, love your videos! I really like camp /scout knives. I just picked up, what I believe to be a quite older one I was wondering if I could send a pic to you? There are no makers name on the tangs, it just says made in USA that I can see. Thanks, Eric

I'm not too impressed with mine, although the covers are very nice looking on it, it had polishing lines giving the spear point blade a wavy appearance that was very apparent and sorta ugly in the light, and the cap lifter blade catches on the spear point, and there was a patina spot also on the cap lifter that looked like the ones from stickers when some companies used to put stickers on the carbon steel blades, That said after I contacted SMKW about a RMA # they did say that since the blade was probably unsellable that I didnt have to return it (plus it cost them money) and that they would send out a replacement, haven't gotten it yet but I'm hoping they make it right with with nice sample that I would be proud to own.

I still like the cinnamon bone stag but I carried the cinnamon bone stag swayback Whittler which I really like. However, the black on mine started to come off. I don’t think I ever spread oil on it or rubbed it down too much but it road in my pocket and the black stuff seems almost rubbery and started coming off at some point. At this point, if I wanted to, I could probably force it off pretty easily. It’s unfortunate but I will probably let that black wear off naturally and then burn ridges of the bone some more. To make it more cinnamon. :)

I had this one in my shopping cart and kicked it out to buy a case sodbuster . I'm defiantly going to grab it this week I love the the Classic Carbon Cinnamon Bone although the black rubs off I wish they would fix that issue .

Yeah, in the split screen image I'm seeing some definite black come off on the centerline of the knife where the black on the high part has wiped off, but thats expected and actually makes it look better because the black is supposed to be in the crevice and not on the top surface.

I carried a Kamp King through jr. high and high school (class of ‘72). It served me well. By the time I was into Buck Stockman knives, I had other tools in my pockets. Even today, that scout pattern is very handy. Everybody should have at least one.
