I’m considering getting one and keep seeing conflicting info about the size. I’m moving to Florida and need 2.5 acres to keep a crocodilian over 4 feet but I’m hoping I can get a cuviers that takes either very long to get that big or stays smaller for life. How large is your 20 y/o?

@@jurassicyard you should go around to different zoo’s and sanctuaries and get an idea of there size first hand, just because there smaller this doesnt make them less dangerous. But if i could, if i lived in an area and hand land i could keep some caimans on, i would for sure

You could try using a red light at night- they wouldn't be as freaked out by the bright light blinging them. Also I've heard it's not a great idea to add crawfish since they burrow and are likely to puncture the liner and cause leaks- of course you have a well, so maybe not an issue
@margaretkaraba81612 жыл бұрын
If you go check out the pond build videos (I think there's 2) - there's a concrete "cloth" liner between the "rubber" liner and the thicker (above base soil/rock) liner. It was put in because caimen like digging as well - so putting little crayfish in won't be a problem.
@subtome7122 жыл бұрын
Caiman are very smart and queue on sound heavily when trained in captivity I noticed Fred always had a calling sound of a baby alligator but he used it on all of his crocodilian's you should try that for a food response I trained mine the same way as fred and she eats off tongs readily! Good luck!

You remember mentioning dizziness when you stand up from a bending or sitting position? There is something called POTS (Postural tachycardia syndrome). This is potentially very very serious. It might be worth getting checked over because it can be associated with some real nasties. The caiman tend to sit in a current with their mouths open looking for food - receptors in the mouth automatically snap the jaws shut if they detect touch, they're fairly sure a dinosaur called Spinosaurus and it's UK relative Baryonyx had a similar system. Glad you got them in the new enclosure safe - the farm drain piping as a carrier a brilliant idea but a suggestion. Drill and tap some pieces of plastic that can be fitted and glued between the ribbing - so there's something solid for the screws to bite into. If my tegu can work out zips with her nose and escape into the car when I'm driving - I hate to imagine what a Caiman could manage.
