It's often not what a teacher teaches but HOW he teaches. Yasser has the gift of both. A true gentleman both on an off the board with never a bad word about anyone and he is refreshingly modest.

Yasser is a great presenter and speaker: signature 'catch phrases', a calm voice, deduction and reduction, etc etc.

The problem with these "questions" is they aren't really questions, but rather people in the audience trying to make it clear to other people in the audience about how much they know or whatever. The guy who was asking about the knight on c3 could possibly aim via b5 to make it into the d6 square wasn't asking Yasser a question, he was trying to boost his ego by announcing some random idea he had to the rest of the room. An excellent lecture detracted from by the self stroking douchebag/s.

Really should've said at the beginning of every lecture (before Seirawan started), "Please hold all questions until after the lecture." Many of these otherwise excellent lectures are marred by idiosyncratic clarificatory questions. Well, as I say, they are otherwise excellent, so thank you for posting these!

Great lecture, but every time that guy opened his mouth to ask a 'question' I wanted to punch the screen.

Yea, pretty much a bishop used as a pawn to protect useful, actual pawns :-)

Yasser took up chess at 12 years old. Imagine if he started earlier. One of the nicest guys around as such honest commentary.

Move 8. Naka should play Qb6 before the f6 in my opinion (and computer suggest too). First of all there 2 concrete lines after that.First one ( 9.Bxh6 gxh6 10.Ne2 Qb4+ 11.Qd2 Qxd2 12.Nxd2 Kxd2 ) Blacks kingside pawn structure little bit disoriented but still drawish endgame. Second line is ( 9.Ne2 Nf5 10.0-0 h6 11.Bd2 Bd7 12.Bc3 Nh4 13.Nxh4 Bxh4 14.Nf4 Be7 ) This line very drawish too but both sides have compensations. I am not entirely French expert but i always play french as black and i play lots of games and i dont like (8. f6) In closed French if you make mistakes or mistake early in the game it is very easy to follow up for both sides. Easy to finding the moves for winning side.

What Ruxistico means is, of course we need the great teachers to teach. But why say anyone can be world champion? That's diminishing the world championship.

"anyone can be world champion"... Now, I do agree that Yasser is a fantastic teacher and a fantastic player - but do we need to diminish the awesome achievements of the world champions to emphasize Yasser's talents?
