I passed thru this border twice in 1972 and recall that the ceremony was performed by both sides. Although as I recall it was perhaps not quite so elaborate, there was no cheerleader encouraging the crowd and no women participated.

Of course it's natural that former colonies take inspiration from a successful military organisation with a training model that produces good NCOs and officers, the training regular troops are thorough and intensive. We never did high kicks and wide theatrical arm posings, that's a local culture thing and unusually for both sides there is a lot of coordination and signals passed between both sides of the border so they can put on a good show for the spectators, shame same the same level of cooperation doesn't exist between Pakistani and Indian governments.
