At the moment I'm still using the AC-3 from ZOOM, which, in addition to guitar simulations, has a compressor, EQ, and reverb or delay, chorus, etc. in one pedal. The AC-3 also has a tuner, a booster, and pickup adjustment built in. In addition to the normal mono/stereo output, there's also a balanced output on the back for both stereo channels. That's enough for my needs. I also have a LOOPER from Boss, an RC30, and two stomp boxes to hammer out rhythm with my feet. I then play the whole thing through an acoustic amp from Boss, the Boss Accoustic Singer Pro.

That's basically what I tried to simulate with my Helix. I add the acoustic sim since I don't have an acoustic guitar. What I do (I think it can be done with the Boss Octave) is send the 5th and 6th strings (and a bit of the 4th) only, to the Octave Pedal so I can simulate a bass player while playing. Great sound and tips. Thanks for sharing.

Pretty similar to the setup I used for solo gigs for many years. I did have an overdrive which was nice for adding some attitude to solos or even chords on more edgy or rocking songs. I highly recommend upgrading the delay pedal to something with a tap tempo, saves a lot of knob turning which audiences don't particularly want to watch lol, and also much more effectively locks in your parts with the song. I had the same octave pedal, but I ended up swapping it out for a boss harmonist, which is an oddball pedal that does a ton of really cool things from the octave to a chorus effect to a whammy pedal to three-part harmonies on lead lines. And finally I had a TC Helicon voice live for adding some effects and harmonies to my vocals. I also used a loop pedal with an XLR input so I could run a mic through it and loop some vocal parts too which adds a whole other layer of interest to arrangements.

I use a similar set up, but I have the LR Baggs Venue, the RC 600, the Strymon Dig and Blue Sky. I also use the Octave for bass. I do not have a chorus pedal, but I really love how it sounded here. One thing I have been considering is building out a smaller pedal board. The RC 600 turns the pedal board into a beast cause it's so freaking big. For my more involved gigs I'm running a Roland Handsonic and Keyboard. But man I would love to have a simpler set up for corner in the bar gigs and yours really fits the bill. Thanks!

great video, thanks for some inspiration, ended up with a CH-1, cloudburst, OC-5 and then went for the Strymon Brig for delay instead of the MXR :D What was the song at 6:00 and 10:30?

@tomf929215 күн бұрын
Do you find you have a hard time turning the looper off by having to double tap?
@SamHortonMusic14 күн бұрын
I don't have an issue with turning it off but the timing has to be spot on as with all looping. The most annoying feature of this looper is when you want to clear the loop you hold the pedal down but the loop plays back for a few seconds until it clears. To get around this I usually just turn the loop pedal down or the volume down on the mixer, but it's an annoying feature which I'll probably look to upgrade in the future.

I'm assuming you are using a regular amp, so I'm left wondering how these pedals would work with an amp designed for acoustic guitars? Acoustic-oriented amp makers also seem to discourage using an overdrive/distortion pedal.
@SamHortonMusicКүн бұрын
I go into a mixer and then into a PA system. Don't use a guitar amp for live use. I'll make a video on my full rig setup soon.

Great setup but I would change one major thing. Remove that polytuner and get a Peterson stomp mini tuner instead. Smaller footprint, for one thing, and far, far more accurate tuning. Don't believe me? Try it! You won't believe what that tiny bit of extra of fine-tuning makes.
