I like the idea of this challenge, but it could be a bit better. I think most fishermen in other countries would say 10-15cm is a small pike bait. The lures that you used were too close in size. It would be better to use something like 10-15cm and 25-30cm. That way you really have a difference in size. And then it would probably also be best to measure the fish and then calculate the average size that was caught on small and big lures. The amount of pikes is nice to know of course but the challenge was size ;-) I would love to win a rod also. Mine is about 12 years old and could use a replacement.

Coming back to my comment 2 years later. 20cm is small now. 27cm is medium sized and 35cm+ is big. And usually casting for pike I use 27-35cm soft plastic lures. 😁

For Pike i fish all year Shads between 15-20cm like Pig Shad Jr or McRubber Jr. When it becomes colder i fish Shads upto 25-30cm like the Real Eel or Pig Shad. I hope my english is not to bad😂 best greetings from near Rügen, love your channel👍

I think it's the strikes that matter. Fish get away for many different reason but the number of takes are the most important thing in your test. It is the only factor that shows fish interest in all the comparisons. Keep em coming guys 😊👍

This is again a useful video. In Hungary, the most pike angler think, that a 15 cm lure is a "big lure". They mostly use 10-12 cm spoons, rubber baits, spinnerbaits and wobblers. A few years ago I started using the bigger lures. 15-20 cm rubber baits (for example Savage Herring Shad 16 and 19 cm, Real Eel 20 cm), tail baits (17 cm Hybrid Pike) and I really love them! I cought nice fish with these bigger lures. Now, there are almost no lures below 15 cm in my boxes and I like to catch a big mama with a lure over 20 cm. :)

Love the show, love the challenge but for what you normally use it looks like both lures were in the small to medium size range which is normal for summer. Maybe try it again on winter or spring time.

Generally but not always, depends on what the fish is feeding on. Got a tarpon once almost the size of the kayak once on a crappie tube and jig, and lots of big cudas reds and trout. One good thing about bigger/noiser lures is better noticed with topwaters in my opinion, the smaller fish follows them but doesn't hit that often, while the big one rush to take them.

Hi lads! It would be interesting to see what the result would be like if it was the fall and it was in a location with some big fish. I´m interested to see if you can "select" those bigger fish using larger baits. I feel that maybe in this instance the fish are highly active and less selective in their bait preference (it looked like you caught on most colours too). Fun video! Keep them coming :)

I would suggest a challenge between topwater lures - poppers vs top water sliders. I think topwater pike fishing is awesome, so much adrenalin rush and you can not fake strikes. :)

My experience is that it is easier to catch fish with smaller lures. But if fish are committed smaller pike will take bigger lures, and of course bigger pikes will also take big lures. I suggest buy baits that are 15-25 cm. Pike are greedy fish, if its smaller than them, they will try on a good day. Buy big baits, but that is my opinion.

When I was about 8 my brother dad and I went fishing for pike and used a lure about 8cm and caught a 30lb pike that was much longer than my leg at the time. We lost that lure since but have a 5cm one same colour/color and it’s our lucky lure it’s a minnow shaped storm lure silver with blue top and stripes. It’s a fish magnet. Another story I went fishing with my first bait caster in a canal for pike and used that lure and managed to catch a perch at about six centimeters😂 My first fish on a bait caster. Hope I catch a pike today wen I go out

Works sometimes if you downsize, as the swimming action changes quite a lot. Have you done a video how much it affects if you add sound (rattle chamber) in a lure? Other angler uses rubbers without sound and other angler uses same lures (size and color) at the same time with added rattle chamber. About the counting of catches, what if you use the "leader touch counting"? Fish counts if you manage to touch the leader.

Typically here in Canada, throwing smaller baits gets you the quantity and big baits give you the quality!!! However my biggest pike was 27 pounds and I caught it on a 3 inch gold and silver spoon!!! I would absolutely love to have that rod so that I can try to beat my pb while throwing some of the new gator gum swimbaits that I just picked up on your website!!!

Speed is the trick indeed ! And also If you pull very fast then stop and let it sink for like 1-2 sec then start pulling fast again i will guarantee you get pike on every throw! This is a method i learned from my grandmother. I normally fish pikes for a festival here in Norway and they buy it from me. Easy made money every summer + it's fun aswell! =) =)

A friend and I also did an experiment like this. The small lure caught the largest fish. Number of pike was a tie. Would love to try a new rod that is not sold at every USA sporting good store!

My experience, fishing almost only the local river (Glomma in Norway), is that it's impossible to conclude what size is better. Because it may change from day to day, and probably from water to water also.

Many pike anglers in the Netherlands always say if you have a boat you always catch the most amount of fish, then people who fish form the shore. so... how about a challenge fishing for pike form the shore against form a boat. My own observations have been that the action of a lure is far more important than size, in many lures there are slight variations in action between different sizes and I suspect that this often makes all the difference. For instance, the amount of 40" pike I have caught on the diminutive 1/2 oz Len Thompson and Williams spoons, even when the exact same lures in larger sizes are also being fished out of the boat at the same time, can not be ignored. My running theory is that the action in these particular sizes of lures is somehow a bit better at triggering strikes in the often moody big fish. Just my theory.

Come to Eastern Europe, and you'll be hard pressed to catch a pike on lures bigger than 10cm all year round, except prespawn. It could work on natural colors tho. I have big pike lures that have caught nothing in 3 years, but I'm constantly catching them on lures from 3 to 8cm.

You should have used way smaller lures in the small lures category, the difference between 22 cm and 16 cm isn't that big. Anyway, nice film! It would be nice to win the rod. :)
