I think I understand why most of the racers are a bit underdeveloped in the racing skills in MFG cause the 30 yr time skip diehard racing is a dying breed and all the skills and techniques that everyone in ID had developed were slowly lost to time over by the racers relying more on the power of the machine & cookie cutter driving skills to compensate but Kanata was taught old school style by Takumi as they both had the gift talent of driving like a mad man and could make the most out of his GT86...

not at all, takumi had a very good memory too, he memorized the route where he battled mako and sayuki, and he only went on the copliot side watching the road before that battle, bunta also pinpointed this when takumi battled against the go kart driver, bunta knew that there was a 50% chance to get the good line when the leafs acumulated in the road of that city where bunta drove before.

I think MFG is more or less on semi pro lvl so it didn't attract much attention from the top dog in the racing world or too dangerous like the TT isle race for the bike. Kanata alr won the F4 championship so his skill should be above semi pro lvl. I think the authors make Kanata are somewhat Kyosuke and Takumi hybrid, a pure track racer with 6 senses for road racing.

I can appreciate the car club boys in the comment section that an 86 would stand up to a Lotus, but in the Intial D anime an 86 went up toe to toe on a R34 Skyline. It’s an anime brothers, relax and enjoy the ride. Racing anime’s are few and far between.

@@nakahili539 Since I posted this comment I’ve been rewatching Initial D. So it wasn’t an R34 it was an R32, point still remaining. Yes this is stated numerous times in the first stage that the only reason the 86 competes is because of the down hill, likewise this is hinted at in the first season of MF Ghost. In fact at the end of first stage Royuske states that he tuned down (320 hp-> 260 hp) his SC specifically to be better on the down hill to beat Takumi.

If it was in touge yes an 86 eould be able to handle a 34/32 gtr in a track thats a different story. If you watch hot version the real touge match you would see that its not always about the power they balance the ride handling how it reacts to everything and mostly lighter cars with 1/3 the power is enough to be on par.

As annoyingly unrealistic they made the move look, he probably moved over quickly when the lotus started to let off the gas for the corner ahead. At that point the lotus driver would've been focused on the corner for enough time for Kanata to move into his blind spot.

Thing in initial d and MF at the end of the day is all about driver skills, though im gonna admit this car and the old ae86 got some tunings and upgrades... Lotus driver got the same way of think and thats why is beatiful this moment... An old AE86 defeating a Lancer EVO!? Yet Takumi did possible that miracle

It should be able to with enough skill diff. Which is the case here. Pro genius with a career, total control over car without any assist vs a Lotus fanboy with TC, getting agitated over vibration created by small bumps and pebbles on the road. And this is on mountain roads so yea skill takes the cake here.

Well Initial D's author got insiparted by a japanese driver (don't remember is name). That japanese used to be the best at drift in mountain and he was doing it with a ae86.

When the group were watching a vídeo about drift was a live action one, a promocional video about keiichi, other cameo, is when the real keiichi make a call to takumi's father, bunta, to compliment him about takumi and his skills... The new engine for the ae86 later in the series is the one that keiichi used in his pro car and was made by keiichi and takumis father
