Thank you for saying natural hair takes effort! I get so annoyed when other naturals shame folks for being exhausted by their hair. That said, I think everyone can do whatever they want but the return to silk pressed hair is interesting. Cuz I’ve gotten dolled up for an evening at the theatre or ballet and my natural hair can betray me if the humidity is wild. So I almost want to blow it out but I stopped to think why I didn’t think twists were acceptable with an evening gown…

I’m definitely with you as a fellow lazy natural. Been throwing my hair in braids all year. I feel like it’s sad us black women can’t accept our natural hair for what it is. I’ve done alot of different styles wigs, sew-ins, silk press & etc but it’s nothing like wearing my own natural hair as is. I would love to see the cruise content. I just came back from a cruise and it was so much fun. Lastly that divorce in the black movie had potential but Tyler Perry needs new writers cause that first was scene was a mess 😂

Thanks for posting hair videos, it is my main reason I watch your videos. I cannot promise to watch the travel vlogs but I won't mind seeing some shorts....having different parts of the travel vlog as shorts with the video linked will help me decide if I want to watch the entire travel vlog...I think you can ramp up quite a bit of views using the short form content also. A lot of my content creators are uploading less hair content but I understand that.

I feel you on a lot of things here. Fellow lazy natural going on eight weeks with twists in. I have been washing my hair with them in and drenching them in oil and leave in to prevent locing, but I know I will pay for it when I finally take of the scarf and take them down. The straight natural is unfortunately more of the same old isms, and it’s sad that it keeps coming back around. Do what you want with your hair, but do it because you love ALL the things your hair can do. That’s just my take. Looking forward to your travel vlogs, and I do miss your Insecure recaps. Don’t be such a stranger girl!

glad to have you back posting! the straight natural thing is rooted in texturism, ppl just really are against type four hair for whatever reason but imma rock with my kinks🤭. it takes a lot of time and my neck and shoulders be feeling every bit of it but i wouldn’t trade it for the world! i had locs for a year but i combed them out b/c my scalp was going crazy.. just didn’t work for me honestly. it was definitely a nice experience tho. currently i’ve been practicing flat twisting my hair girl. i can’t wait until it becomes an easier process honestly. excited for your future content & reviewing shows/movies in detail could be really cool
@jadakelly2297
@jadakelly2297 Ай бұрын
Ik exactly what you mean…The texturism is sneaking through beyond the ladies and people who just want to wear their hair straight. And it’s very reminiscent of why people left the natural hair community in the first place and now it’s like the pendulum has swung all the way to the opposite end as in regards to the natural hair. When there really could just be a balance, but people are associating straight natural hair with middle class blackness which is very isolating( potentially) and dangerous. I know everybody won’t see as political as I do and that’s fine but I really do think it is political how we think about ourselves internally and the messages that we sent outwardly for what is the standard of a group or subgroup, especially when that’s not what the majority looks like/can achieve(and here I mean in general, not just with hair) Like you said that’s not me judging people for wearing their hair how they want to, but we do always need to be cognizant of the whys. especially if this is a bunch of Black people watching these videos who want to wear their hair styles in non heated styles…it’s just like the people who were watching a bunch of 3B/C hair natural videos with either the expectation of their hair looking like that or a type of longing/envy for what others have. I hope this all makes sense. 16:23

So true. Everything doesn’t require everyone to have an opinion about it. The black community is the only community that obsesses this much about natural hair and only wearing it 1 way. SMH. They tie natural hair to such strong emotions when it doesn’t have to be that stressful. I’ve worn my hair curly, relaxed, heat trained, it’s really all just hair. And the health of your hair is all that really matters and wearing your hair in its natural kinky/curly state all the time can give people a false sense of health because curly hair hides damage, until you straighten it out at a salon, then everything is revealed. Just cause someone’s hair is chemically processed or they use heat doesn’t mean their hair is damaged, and just cause someone wears curly hair styles all the time doesn’t mean it’s healthy. I think a lot of people are starting to experience natural hair community burnout and just want to go back to doing things that make sense again for their hair. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Also, the same natural hair girls who judge black women for using heat on their hair will buy bundles of hair or wig of hair from women of another race who likely use heat on their hair almost every day 😅 we seriously gotta get over this nonsense

Girl, bring on the content. I love cruising. I would love the education. I have never been on Virgin Atlantic, so it would be good content to see if I should take them for my next cruise. Don't get me wrong, I love natural hair content, but u are right. It has changed and is, in some ways, repetitive. Girl, I was relaxed for more than half my life. I am not interested in a silk press or anything involving straight hair. U make an excellent point. Apparently, when u elevate ur status, the natural hair has to go because, guess what, it does not fit the aesthetics. We are still bound without realizing it. The companies who sell out don't even know it is a tactic to break the moment because when u feel good about who you are, u begin to excel and are less likely to put up with crap. Right now, we are back to the creamy crack and have coined the term straight natural as a compromise.

I’m not tired of doing my hair. Girl I’m just tired! It is thriving since my baby girl started giving me my trims. I’ve just been throwing it in two ponytail puffs and calling it a day. Styling has really been on the back burner for this whole year. The straight natural soft life content creators are really just giving the masses what they wanna see. Most of us still don’t know how to do much of anything to our own hair. We still rely on the salon to give us a presentable hairstyle in most cases. So your average everyday girl watching YT videos or following content elsewhere cannot relate to twist outs, wash n goes, Bantu knots and other natural styles unless it done by someone else. When people ask me what I do to get my style I can immediately recognize the blank look in their eyes. They either feel like it’s too much to do or they tried it once and it didn’t work. They don’t understand how heat and braiding hair and lack of moisture and protein negatively effects the hair and I don’t have the energy to explain it. The real masses are not really checking for the time and energy involved in spending that much time on themselves and the straight natural girls are just capitalizing on these preferences

Natural hair does not have to be redone every morning unless the style is to change the hair from 4c to 3c. THAT takes effort. Also, if the hair is washed and conditioned regularly then detangling is not hard at all. Even straight haired girlies would suffer if they didn't comb their hair for weeks. That's why they detangle daily, something that most BW don't do. Maybe that's why most struggle when they FINALLY detangle. It seems like more effort to spend 3 hours washing and straightening hair and spending effort to avoid water and sweat 💦. Detangling 🪮 can be done with only fingers 🤌🏽. Moisturize regularly. People with straight hair wash and condition their hair (aka moisture) multiple times a week. Someone with curly hair can skip the washing and do that only 1 to 2x a week. Anyway to each their own 😊
