Orkid sure has grown up, soon to be 27 years old, and known as the smartest whale in human care. She knows more behaviors than any other killer whale. And she's still there with her surrogate mother Corky, who's in this video too. The fourth whale must be Knootka.
@alyonalagunov13549 жыл бұрын
Yes, but not before she watched her mother bleed to death 3 months after this was taken. Behaviours? You mean when she wiggles her tongue and body at the audience like she's dancing, waves at them, and ' kisses' other orcas?... Yes 'behaviours' indeed. More like tricks.
@dimitristsekeris18217 жыл бұрын
Kissing and waving is not "dancing". You anti-caps should stop making false equations between different stuff.

"Shamu" is really Corky II a Northern Resident female, they're the largest sub species of orca and at 20 feet 8000+ she's average. Her tall dorsal fin is a matriline trait, see the A23s. Orky and Corky came from Marineland of the Pacific in Los Angeles, he's the father of the baby Orkid and Kayla in Florida. Kandu V was aggressive and speaking a different language than Corky didn't help. "Namu" is probably Kasatka the present matriarch of San Diego who gets along fine with others.
@bethanyribet37046 жыл бұрын
NewMJ Namu was the real name of the orca. Kasatka was a completely different orca. Shamu and Namu were both orcas but shamus name was the only that was used for stage names after she died
@bethanyribet37046 жыл бұрын
NewMJ KO this might be identified as Namu by the person who posted it but they didn't use his name for any other orca

Kandu 5 bled to death 3 months after this was filmed during an aggressive incident in which she hit a wall/another orca and severed a major artery. If SeaWorld had any knowledge of natural orca social structure this never would have happened. They separated her from her baby which doesn't happen in the wild in resident populations, just so she could perform. She became distressed and after the show attacked another orca who was paying too much attention to her baby. Had she never been seperated from her baby to perform this never would have happened.
@dimitristsekeris18217 жыл бұрын
She was not separated from Orkid. She just had a grudge on Corky cause Corky had good relationships both with her daughter and her husband.
@tiberio.augusto5 жыл бұрын
Corky and Orkid were performing in the show pool, while the gate of the pool Kandu was, was open. Orkid decided to perform with her, since they were very close and still are to this day.
@serenageiler54843 жыл бұрын
I've found another reason. Corky lost all of her seven calves shortly (or days) after birth. An intelligent and social creature like her must be very sad and depressed because of that. 😥 So she paid more attention to another calf, Orkid.

It breaks my heart watching these things now after the 2010 incident and watching the documentary "Blackfish." We so want to believe that these animals are happy, safe, and well-cared for but it is quite the opposite. I wish there was a way for them to perform these fantastic shows while preserving their health and well-being but it just doesn't seem possible. Seeing them do these tricks still puts a smile on my face but SeaWorld has us fooled. They live in deplorable conditions and on unnatural diets, and attack trainers and each other as a result of their lifestyle that is forced upon them by this corporation. I can never go back there. I feel such a strange mix of delight and heartbreak at watching them perform in these videos. I am no animal activist, no representative of PETA...I'm not even a vegetarian. But these beautiful animals should not be stolen out of the wild and separated from their families and forced to live in unnatural and unhealthy conditions for our entertainment. It's disgusting. :(

Of course. When I was a kid... I didn't know back then the conditions these animals are actually subjected to.

And being cramped forced to do tricks and being starved if they didn't is good? You have been brain washed if you think this is better for them! I also find incredible funny how sea world tells its guests false information such as in the wild they don't live as long as there in fact in the wild they can live up to 100 years old unlike the short 30 years they will live in captivity if they are lucky and havnt been starved to death!

+Kimber Noelz So how about putting horses who use to walk 16 km in the wild in a box in which they walk 1 km a day. To me it's the same as for today most orcas held in captivity were born in captivity and same goes for horses. Just one time I want someone to explain to me why especially orcas and why especially Seaworld is the problem.
@babyschafxy9 жыл бұрын
I watched it 10 times and read everything about the topic I could find. And found out that Blackfish contains lies as well. But if you do the math: In relation to their size horses are kept in smaller confinements than orcas. I am totally against keeping them in captivity (in fact keeping any animal in captivity) but I just don't get why it is such a big deal with orcas and not with any other animals. As you could also say that horses are being forced to do something they would not do in the wild and same for circus animals. In fact a lot of horse owners use the technic that Sea World developed for their orcas (which is positive reinforcement and not withholding food by the way and Blackfish doesn't say anything else) to train their horses.

Its annoying hearing them call Corky Shamu then refer to her as a he. Her name's corky...not Shamu!. What happend to Kandu V is very sad but she shouldn't have tried to attack Corky. Corky lost her babies so she only wanted to love Orkid as well.. Kandu V had a history of aggression prior to her death..

Ridiculous! These animals should not be in captivity!! In the wild they swim hundreds of miles at their free will!! How on earth anyone can defend holding them in tanks and making them perform pointless tricks is beyond me.
@spacebug306 жыл бұрын
They swim hundreds of miles to find food to not starve to dead. If they had plenty of food right in front of their faces in the wild, they wouldn't swim hundreds of miles for survival.
