It's all psychological now for Port.. they've got the finals-chokes monkey on their backs, just like pre-2022 Geelong did, and have yet to shake it. That monkey only gets heavier with each finals disappointment and particularly with bad chokes like last night. Clearly now they're dealing with that and their own mental demons, meaning when they come out for finals they are ten times more nervous and tense than usual, which doesn't bode well for team synergy or flow. It's also on the coaches for letting it come to this, and for failing to guide the players through it better than they have. As for Geelong last night, regardless of Ports performance, that was simply ELITE from the cats and would have annihilated anyone in the comp. I have not seem them kick so well or flow so beautifully all season, it was seriously 2022 level stuff, which as we all know, was simply unstoppable. I didn't know this particular group had that in them(yet), but stand corrected and very pleasantly surprised! In such an open year, they maintain that for the next few weeks, you'd think their as good a shot as any to win it, which would be a dream. They're also at the opposite end of the spectrum to Port, playing with zero pressure or expectation given it's a transitional/rebuild year for them. This is essentially a free hit for a team that has already tasted recent glory and still knows how to get it done on the big stage, which could make for a lethal combination. Time will tell...
@JeffBurn-b1i5 ай бұрын
Well Ken Hinkley and Luke Beveridge are in trouble it would seem, because again Hinkley can't get Port to perform deep into finals when given the box seat West Coast fans take for granted making accommodation bookings and Lukey boy once again isn't getting his Bulldogs to book an uber instead of walking the long distance as a metaphor for finals and all but making up the numbers nearly a decade. I don't advocate wildcard round, I believe the finals should be reduced to a top 6 and for even fixtures and travel the 8 highest Victorian teams should play a non Victorian side 3 games twice at their home venue. The NBL does it, the VFL 40 years ago would have essentially did it and if it has with gather round in 3 states a Melbourne team travel equal to Sydney and Fremantle etc it's right and fair.

Geelong were clearly playing 1 or 2 levels above Port last night which shouldn’t happen with 2v3 on the ladder. I’ve been a fan of Ken for a long time but last night he showed it’s past time to go, he failed as a coach miserably and it’s time. What does he see in Dixon that everyone else can’t see and why can’t he see what everyone does? Dixon is too slow and the game has passed him. What exactly was the game plan Ken developed the last two weeks? Bomb the ball forward and hope for the best looks like the game plan, aim for Dixon no matter how outnumbered he is and ignore the 1 on 1? Butters was not fit during the week and yet he still played, Ken didn’t learn anything during the year when he did that with Rozee and Geelong didn’t play injured players did they? Why start JHF on the bench time and time again when he puts everything on the line every week? You want to hit your opponent from the start so put him on the ground ffs! Where is Lord? Surely he is better than Marshall and Dixon. Ken is a good coach but he can’t coach finals even if it was to save his life, he makes wrong calls and is too nice to the team when in fact they need to have some good hard truth thrown at them. I don’t think a coach has ever been sacked between final games but if he names Dixon again then for gods sake sack him! Most of us supporters are doing it tough and don’t have the luxury of big wages like the players and coaches so forking out that much cash to sit through that rubbish is seriously taking the piss isn’t it? Don’t expect us to fork out money again next week after what we just sat through. I have one more rant and it’s aimed at Koch. He’s done great bringing the club back from extinction but everytime he opens his mouth about finals and premierships etc Port fails. Shut the f up Koch and while at it bury this prison bars rubbish. I’ve been a die hard supporter for 40 years but that team is not the magpies, they are the Power so if you want to pay heritage to the past then do it with our first Power jumper and the one we won our first and only premiership with! All this prison bars crap does is rev up opposition and make them play harder against you, we are Port Power not Port Magpies!

@@vigour6786 The blame sits squarely on Ken, he played Butters who was under an injury cloud all week and it backfired just like it did earlier this year with Rozee yet he didn’t learn anything from that. He starts one of his best guns on the bench how many quarters when you want to fly out of the blocks, he not only plays Dixon but defends him even though we can all see he’s done. What was the game plan he came up with, bomb it forward and hope for the best? That’s what it looked like. Ken is ultimately the guy that has to get the players up for the game and too many we’re not switched off. We can’t knock the midfield too much for last night because they got run off their feet with the way we kept turning the ball over and they ran out of puff, the way our forwards were fed the ball was shocking and too many times I saw it go to a pack instead of 1 on 1 targets where of course Geelong turned it around, defensively they were already stretched by missing Houston and Farrel but it gets worse when the ball just gets hammered into Geelong forwards time and time again, it’s going to bleed goals eventually. Ken Hinkley to West Coast next yr? Maybe its time for a move, in particular if Port lose badly again next week. Sign him to a 3-4 yr deal. Eagles need some continuity with keeping young talent at the club while continuing to draft further talent. Ken has shown he can build a team and keep them bonded together, just not ruthless enough in finals. Eagles are easy 4 years still off top 4 so who cares. Then re-assess after his contract term when the team maybe ready to be relevant in finals again. Fans here are just looking for team staying together and 8 odd H&A wins, slowly improving a bit from there each year...

Ken Hinkley is a bang average coach who does not deserve a job at a big club like West Coast.

I don't think Josh Carr should be our next coach. I've been saying it for years, if you don't like Ken, Josh isn't gonna deliver anything different, because he is already in the coaches box. Port need a new coach to come in from outside the club. A Buckley or Liegh Mathews type of coach.

PA played with only 15 players, so they were at a disadvantage from the start. Dixon, Ratagolea and Jones may as well have stayed home: they were non-competetive. So when playing a team in top form, like the cats, their system collapses. Hinkley cannot be blamed for those three key players capitulating.

If you used basic maths would you use 12 yrs of coaching failure to predict the 13 th year all of a sudden is going to be different??? I'm just using basic maths? I could be wrong this weekend but if you was using a risk based approach would you use 12 yrs of coaching failure for a 13 th year win if you was a betting person. Lol I guess this weekend will show if Port just don't learn from 12 yrs of mistakes. Maybe that crows player was correct. Maybe they need him down there as president to change things
