In 2007 we were so spoiled by high quality releases so something like this was just seen as "mediocre". However now, with the dire state of the industry, these previously perceived average games have become great when viewed through a 2024 lens

I was thinking this exact same thing playing through both Homefront games. The second game and all the DLC's is amazing compared to what we've got the last 10 years in the single player action category. I didn't appreciate it and only played like an hour now I've played through it twice in the last year man we didn't know how good we had it.

I like this game, but it really was mediocre. And I'm talking about its gunplay, it was rough and unsatisfying, with incredibly low bullet precision, unreliable cover system and bad companions AI. I never played the first one, but K&L2 Dog days was awesome. Running through the streets of Shanghai gunning down chinese gangsters, using a variety of weapons. Gameplay was great and the shootout with the choppers with light machine guns, fighting your way through the building was awesome. That scene where Kane and Lynch escape being tortured and running through the streets shooting at the police and the gangsters while butt naked with a thousand cuts to their bodies was insane. Loved the game, it was so fun to play. I'm glad it was made backwards compatible in the xbox store. They don't make games like this anymore, and I wish they would. Since people misunderstood and disregarded those games, of course we're gonna have colourful activist pseudo-games as a replacement. Also, the Kane & Lynch games are one of those games where the antagonists aren't really the villains and you can't really blame them, as Kane and Lynch are just fucking shit up and then expect to have the narratively standard "epic" ending.
