As a mother with a child on the autism spectrum, what that KZbinr did was incredibly distasteful. My child also exhibits similar speech patterns as the character, and it is not something to be mocked. @@Dominicn123 that is the same argument that the KZbinr made, and although the intention may be harmless (or a “good move” as you put it), it’s ultimately how it affects those on the receiving end of this. For me, it’s akin to making clips of mimicking tics to pretend to be someone with Tourette’s syndrome. Even if the intent wasn’t to mock, it’s in extremely poor taste. I think the show is a very good start in spreading awareness especially for a place like Korea where there is a lot of stigma when it comes to “disabilities”, but making clips of mimicking behavior and potentially profiting off these clips just isn’t it.

The youtuber in question is just mocking autism casually and heartlessly for hype, which is unacceptable for many viewers. Recently, Universe added a function where you pay for 1 artist subscription and get 2 more artists for free, so people can subscribe to talk to their faves and harras 2 more artists for free. Daniel has to deal with antis everytime he comes there to chat. One time an anti proudly posted screenshots on twitter of the death threats they sent him with his response of blocking them to show off that they managed to annoy him. So people are jumping to conclusions that he blocked a fan when it's very possible that it was an anti this time too and Daniel toned down their question when in fact they included swear words or death threats. In fact, I'm pretty sure it was an anti because they posted screenshots of his messages on Twitter right afterwards. There was no time for Danity to leak them.

Unfortunately I think Kang Daniel’s fear of strong women in the heavy makeup who speak their minds seems pretty common in Korea (we see it a lot with David and Korean men on other channels too). It’s probably because Korean gender norms push the notion of the ideal woman being more docile and sweet. There’s nothing wrong with being that type of person, but the stereotype of the “strong unnie” is a more subtle form of sexism that needs to change. It was fair for fans to try and start a polite conversation with Kang Daniel about this, but I don’t think people should be rude or insulting to him. Blocking those types of people is justified. Now at workplace as well I try to help and support all whoever asks for regardless of gender but when it comes to men couple of years older than me I get really really formal. Though both genders are equally kind/horrible, depends from person to person. There are certain things like picking up a call after 9pm, I do not if it's men who aren't part of my family. They even screenshot and bragged about it on Twitter. - Full conversation was 1.5 hour long w/ many topics (sleep deprivation, neighbors, health, toy gun, etc.). - Makeup: He's talking about a toy gun at home & the revolver used in his kdrama. Some didn't get what's cool about them, so he used makeup as analogy (revolver is base, rifle is eyeliner). - SMF/SWF: Someone asked about SMF. He said he felt more comfortable as many of the guys are acquaintances. He was intimidated by the female dancers' fierceness (nothing about their makeup). He said the girls were very energetic so he couldn't keep up with them ("energy-draining"). - Despite false accusation, he still apologized for everyone's peace of mind.

As someone who was bullied in middle school by Korean boys in an international school in Hong Kong, I feel for the people who were bullied by Garam. However reflecting on the situation, I realized that it would be very hard for me to prove that it happened to me given the fact that most teachers didn’t give a shit, I didn’t have a lot of friends who supported me and it wasn’t like we had smartphones to record the events. On the other hand, if my former bullies wanted to defame me, they could very easily do so and get some of my former classmates on board and I would not have any way to defend myself. I feel there is a chance that Garam may have been innocent if HYBE was saying she was actually a victim and tried to sort it out first but kicked her out because she became too much of a liability. Theres a difference between learning about a character, understanding why the character acts or does what they do, and doing a character just because without research. Actors spend a lot of time trying to represent as accurately and with as much understanding as possible a character, be it their backstory, a disability, trauma, etc. They understand why the character would do the action they do or say the things they do and thats why its acceptable. Not having done all those steps, you're just imitating something ignorantly. Its crazy that because she's a "cute" female character everyone wants to imitate her but nobody wanted to do the same with Moon Sangtae from "It's ok not to be ok" because he wasn’t as attractive a character. This whole Kang Daniel thing is really just another episode of him with his anti’s. Shouldn’t have been an issue at all. Daniel spent roughly 2hrs chatting with fans, about different topics, replying to comments. Yes he talked about make up, talked about SWF SMF, his Disney+ drama role, guns, make up LOL. Said he was nervous while in SWF - true, even some of the SWF participants said “he must’ve felt like he entered a lions den” because it was that intense. Said he feels more comfortable with SMF - true, he knows a lot of these dancers and is even very well acquainted with 1 crew. He has joiners in these chat sessions who insult & mock him, his family (cats included) tryna catch him to react. At 1 point he was being accused of being rude when he said he’ll block those who will give spoilers for a movie he’s a huge fan of & of-course 1 just had to stir drama twisted it for social media consumption!? This isn’t the 1st time anti’s breached that paid content app (Universe) virtually heckling him, they’re even on his own fan app (KD). The culprit decided to put 5-10 phrases stitched together, creatively choosing a part, made it believable and people just went with it. There’s translation accounts in Twitter with a following as big as 5K & 8K literally encouraging netizens to get him but don’t care about the nature of the leaked part of the chat. He apologized for the way he tried to contain the situation (in the chat) but not because he was demeaning. His wasn’t even close to discriminating because of SWF’s gender. But yeah if you absolutely hate the guy, you’d take it however it triggers you. This is the reason why the guy doesn’t even go out unless it’s work. If he even so much breathes in front of the girls, he’d be accused of being too comfortable and it’ll spark a dating controversy. Everything is and will be an issue.

I was expecting worse words from the Kang Daniel thing. I thought he said something like the women were lesser performers or something sexist like that. He didn't word it the best, but basically what he was saying is the women were all older than him (in the age-respect system way, not calling them old hags) and very striking/attractive in appearance so he was nervous. He basically just said "i'm nervous around strong powerful women who could dominate me" just in a crude way. Not really cancellable in my opinion. I think Kim Garam getting kicked out of Le Sserafim is the right call. Even if Hybe thinks the allegations aren't true or can't be fully proven in court. I think they decided to do what's best for the other girls in the group and not let the controversy continue to hang over the other members. Like Danny said, even if Hybe thinks she's innocent, at a certain point, it's not worth fighting it if the controversy impacts the group because it's hard to change public opinion. And if she is guilty, then that's even worse that they'd continue to back Kim Garam. In the long run i think she'll still have a career. The accusations she's associated with are very bad of course, but at the end of the day. Something from middle school can't ruin your life FOREVER. She's still very young, middle school was still basically yesterday for her (she's only 16 now). Like if I'm job interviewing someone who's in their mid 20s, even if they had a bad bullying controversy from their childhood, after a certain point of adulthood, your childhood mistakes don't reflect who you are as an adult anymore. So i think she'll be fine in the long run. Another company will probably sign her in 2 or 3 years. At this point she needs to face whatever punishment might come, and then just wait for some time to pass and then she'll be safe to start a solo career or join another group if that's what she still wants to do.

I agree. Like you said she's still very young. I think for now she's better off staying out of the spotlight and the industry and focus on her mental health coz who knows how much this controversy affected her. I really wish companies would stop debuting their idols below the age of 18 coz minors don't really have mental maturity to handle this much pressure especially when they're being thrown into a world and environment that's on high demand.
@VMYeahVN2 жыл бұрын
@@chengetaimubaiwa2239 With you on that for sure. Idols should have to be 18+ to debut. Minor trainees I think is ok because that's basically like going to a performing arts school. But to be able to step into the mainstream spotlight and deal with the scrutiny and pressure that comes with that, they should be 18+. Or at there should be laws that protect public figures that are minors, like press and paparazzi having legal limitations on how they report on public figures who are minors. Similar to how for example, the American movie industry has rules where you can have minors be in a movie, but they can only film for up to 8 hours a day (whereas adult actors can work up to like 12 or 14 hours long as you're paying over time properly).

After looking at all that's taking place on social media, I've come to the conclusion that a lot of people are being hypocritical b*llies themselves. Wishing d*ath upon Garam, wanting to attack her on the streets, commenting grossly perverted things (she's a minor) and even wishing for her to unalive herself are all entirely unnecessary but it's just the surface. There have even been comments saying how she should Sulli herself, bringing up a deceased idol is also unnecessary and so is dragging other idols into the situation who have nothing to do with it like Soojin for example. Then the toxicity is justified by commenting she deserves it for being a b*lly, they'll also attack you for commenting anything else that isn't hateful towards her branding you as a Garam fan. Guess I should also just fall in line with all the toxicity then. 😃

bringing Soojin's situation isn't "random". Death threats and wishing her harm are unnecessary and gross, but comparing two idols who had a similar situation doesn't seem like "toxicity" to me. To me it depends on the situation. If you go into a comedy show, you should be expecting some controversial and rude statements - that's how a comedy show works. If you are easily offended by that type of remark in that setting, then you probably shouldn't attend that type of function. If you are in the school hallway or at the office break room and somebody comes up to you and makes a rude comment, then tries to excuse it with. "it was just a joke, bro" that is something quite different.

Compare how HYBE/Source Music handled this to how JYP Ent. handled Hyunjin’s bullying accusations, which I think was one of the best handled situation of that whole era. HYBE basically went straight to intimidation and legal actions. JYP Ent. said they would look into the situation and added updates regarding both Hyunjin and his accuser. Both situation had gray areas and both involved a lot of people throwing around misinformation, but one company went aggressive and the other went more transparent, calm, and verified everything before releasing statements. Personally, I think HYBE did nobody any favors here with their premature release of statements.

@@nicoleloss7987 I'm confused how anyone could think she's innocent when their Ministry of Education spoke out about it. I'm from the US and that's the equivalent of the Department of Education taking the time to confirm whether a celebrity here bullied someone or not. They wouldn't do that lightly or without proof 🤷🏽♀ HYBE's continued aggressive response after that was nonsensical to me. It wasn't fair to the other members that they were being scrutinized for a scandal that had plausible evidence and honestly, it added gasoline to the fire that was people who were taking their displeasure with the situation too far by wishing ill on Garam and bullying her online. It just made the situation far worse for everyone involved for no reason.

As a woman I don't think what Daniel Kang said was offensive. I mean I get it, he's with all women who are strong, older independant women can me intimidating. I'll be intimdated too. Others are saying that the screen shots were cut and paste by haters. So those trolls did their best to set him up. smh.

I can't believe we live in an era where pple fear outrage by kids than common sense. Going by logic Hybe should have stuck to their guns but for her mental health maybe it's right she left but even then Hybe left her not the other way round which stinks to me. There are idols who have criminal charges and still have careers but it's different rules for girls and girls are their own worst enemies. The amount of vile stuff on social media is shocking. Everyone forgets these are kids who will grow out of these stupid moments (hopefully) anyway I believe she will be successful and lessarafim is tainted. I put a jinx on it. Ridiculous! White washing the original bully as a victim only is the dumbest thing I've seen on this issue. Ugh!

On Kang Daniel: As a woman, I don't find KD's comments offensive at all. I feel bad that instead of appreciating his honesty, his supposedly "fans" are taking it against him. No wonder public figures are always walking on egg shells. They become honest for one second and it can cost them their entire career.

Hot take: what Kang Daniel said was fine. If he was more comfortable in front of a bunch or men than of being on edge because he was surrounded by beautiful women that’s just him being honest. If I’m in front of a ton of attractive slightly older men all day long, I’ll probably be more in my head than when I’m around a bunch of my fellow women.

Garam's case basically an argument between gangs of girls in school which went unresolved, I experienced it myself back when I was in senior high. difference is, Garam turned out to be a celebrity and the rival gang wasn't seem to be happy at all with this and ended up spilling too many tea in a snow slope that turned into a snowball. Basically from what i read, both parts were in some kind of rivalries for whatever reason which leads up to an event that cause the argument. I mean even for non celebrity, girls' heated argument at school most of the times might ends up in either suspension or getting expelled from the school. not defending her, here. i hope he can live a better life away from spotlight now.

The victim commits MOLKA, it's probably true because it's written on the school punishment record (HYBE)and Daeryun did not deny it..What Garam did was she defended her friend by sending cursed messages and had an argument with the victim(Daeryun law office/ HYBE statement)

it's honestly extremely disappointing that she was deemed guilty from the start before she got the chance to giver her side of the story and she got so much online hate for it. with the amount of non-clarity from both sides of the story, it's still pretty hard to decide if she's truly guilty of not. we only know she did it defend her friend who's nude images were circulating on the internet. how and why she was punished is still unknown. her school had released more info about the level 5 punishment, but no one really paid attention to it because she was guilty from the start.

What i don't understand about the entire Garam issue, is like what you said at like 18:50, its not even like its years after her debut. Its before her debut, just an announceent. I dont understand why they even went through her debut knowing how bad of an issue it was. It doesn't make sense financially, ethically, socially, and even from a marketing perspective.

Maybe Daniel felt overwhelmed because he didn't want a scandal by being too comfortable with women and perhaps there's this dynamic of being publicly pulled away from women that when he's the only man on the show, he feels like there's a scandal every where? 😂 I don't know. But what I do know is that I would be more nervous whether I'd be on a show as a celebrity with all women or men.

That could be one of the reasons that he felt more comfortable around male dancers besides the fact he is personally acquainted with all male dancers in SMF. When SWF was airing there was a false rumor already created that he went out with one of the dancers in the show. He knows he has to act extra careful around female dancers or female idols to prevent any noise. Any little reaction he makes towards female contestants would be analyzed and criticized under microscope. If he was too comfortable friendly or enthusiastic around the dancers, antis would have criticized him to be flirtatious or disrespectful towards the dancers. So having to be extra careful and fine-tune the way he behaved and interacted with the female dancers during many hours of recording must have been more exhausting than we could imagine. And on top of that to catch up with their energy? Plz

I think Daniel Kang was so nervous with all eyes on him by mature women. He’s a young guy. Seriously he’s innocent guy. He doesn’t need to get canceled! I think Netizens get so dramatic. As for Attorney Woo Young Woo’s character touches on how autistic adult live it’s not a joke. Stop treating disabled people differently like outcast. I have a son with autism spectrum & he is very awkward & lack social skills. Like Woo Young Woo my son also wears headphones bc he’s noise sensitive. I hope this drama brings awareness to autistic adults & how their minds work different. Every autistic child or adult behave in their own way. Each case is different. Please watch the drama.

daniel wasn’t gender insensitive tho.. he wasn’t super correct in saying that but it’s also understandable, the ‘beauty’ that’s expected of women in most societies and in Korea especially can be intimidating… i’m a woman who isn’t used to being in a group of girls who act all powerful and look really ‘feminine’ (according to the dumb standards ofc), so i would be a little uncomfortable, but also i would still be more uncomfortable doing stuff like mc-ing (lol) before a crowd of men… we’re socialized in such a way that makes us more used to being among people of our gender, plus it’s extra hard when the appearances are so different. i would rather say his texts (which were at least partly joking if i understood correctly) could even be taken as criticism of such imbalance of female and male gender expression that the beauty industry makes us believe is natural - it’s not.
@Markus00212 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I have several relatives I would classify as 'typical midwest farmgirls' that usually wear jeans and t-shirts with no makeup, and one that is a former beauty queen and current working model. She usually wears perfectly-done makeup and designer dresses, as that is part of her job - but I still felt a little uncomfortable around her as a teen, b/c it was not what I was used to.

So… I’m a huge fan of Kang Daniel, he’s one of my absolute favorite artists… but I’ll give you my general opinion (as a woman)… I’m not personally offended, but I can see why it might upset people… it does seem strange to mention their makeup, as if a woman who wears strong makeup or strong women in general should be something to be afraid of… kind of funny since he seems pretty tight with Jessi of all people… I get that he felt intimidated being outnumbered as a man, but I’m not sure I understand why it would be such a negative experience for him… honestly I wouldn’t be afraid to get up in front of a room full of men more than a room full of women (that is unless I were getting up to speak about gender issues or something targeting men)… I don’t think he needed to cancel subscribers for voicing their opinion unless they were verbally assaulting him and being rude about it… telling people to “chill” when they’re genuinely upset is def a pretty rude thing to do in and of itself… I’m usually of the opinion that we are all welcome to have our own feelings and opinions as long as we try to be kind… I imagine he felt flustered and upset when people came for him, but I’m hoping he does actually take the time to think about why it may have been upsetting… women should be able to be themselves and wear whatever makeup they wish and act as strongly as they like without a man saying that they are scary… that’s just silly.

its still so unfair to judge him just by the screen cap alone, its not even the whole convo those chats are from different topic put together to make it look like he is bad. seeing his chats only and not seeing others chats is totally one sided right? haters even posted last time screen cap of their hateful remarks on his chats and they are so proud of it. bcoz of this the app allows the artist to block disrespectful fans there. i really wish daniel could just expose those haters and post the whole convo with the haters chats on it so this will end, but i respect his apology for the misunderstanding he caused and for making his fans worry about him.

Its interesting how some men are intimidated by someone's makeup. Then again, cultural differences can be super divergent and that's interesting itself. Also, I get the guy's logic in relation to Yoo Wong Yoo imitation. Pittying someone so much just victimizes and belittles them. But I get David's point as well. On Garam, was it really cleared up that she was a bully? Seems like there were rumors she was a victim herself, or only got in trouble because she defended a friend.
@coffeesweet12 жыл бұрын
some men get intimidated easily for different reason; in my office, a colleague who has a very strong presence, barely wearing make up, and she's not even that tall, but the moment she stepped into a room full of men, they would all be either steps aside and whispering gossips about her or just simply avoid her completely. she isn't menacing or anything, she's just being blunt and to the point kind of person which apparently intimidating to my male colleagues.

the make up talk was not related to SWF but it was part of another topic , the screenshots haters used were from a 2h chatting session so they chose what would help their narrative into painting him to be sexist

I'm not going to comment on Daniel because I'm not fully in the know about the situation but with the others I don't get your comments. How is not making fun of someone's disability pittying them? As for Garam there was no rumors at all. It was only Source Music's statement that that came from but without evidence.
@nidhi26932 жыл бұрын
apparently, based on the accounts of kang daniel's fans, he never said that. the context was different and ss of the chatroom were edited to make him seem sexist and guilty. he also never apologized for being sexist- it was for something else but the media twisted it. there were rumors that garam was smoking and writing inappropriate things on school property- which have been proven false as those photos were photoshopped and the girl in those photos never looked like garam. also, some people were sharing ss of chat rooms but they were never verified to be garam (it just seems like internet haters tbh). regarding the news that she was a victim, somu provided a statement and said that they had evidence and proof but bc the situation involves minors they don't want to reveal much. however, details from her school's violence committee have been released and honestly both her and eunsoo were guilty to some extent. there's a video by everglow-up if you want more details. tbh, kind of disappointed that hybe did not go through with the trial. with how the situation blew up and amount of nasty things said her way, i feel bad for her even if she was guilty. just because you're a bully doesn't mean you also deserve getting bullied. just hope she can recover mentally and figure out her life from here.

A general rule should be that we just shouldn't be making fun of marginalised groups unless we are a member of that group ourselves. As an autistic person myself I like the drama and am happy overall that I creates more visibility for autistic people in society. The character is still full of stereotypes and I do not see myself in the character but it's great to see that it gets a discussion going. I've been wondering for a long time how this is not more of a topic since south korea has a rather high diagnostic rate. 1 in 38 children gets diagnosed while the rate in the US for example is 1/44

I believe if a person hasn't been proved to be guilty of something it should be treated at least as no guilty. I only heard of the registered case by a institution in charge of violence and the case didn't sound that straight forward and very traditional in declare everyone partially guilty (the students) but none authority responsible, for me that's always a sign of a poor job and cover up from authorities and schools boards. IF she did it then good but if she didn't then are ppl ok to have another T-ara? Public opinion can be the worst bully.

I kind of get what Kang Daniel meant but there is always a right way to say things. The words you choose are really important, especially when you have so much influence over people. And when you belong from a suppressed community, you know how things said by celebrities can be used to make insensitive jokes about you. Why can't Kang Daniel be scared of interacting with females? He may be afraid of making one cry or discouraging them in some way. Of course he feels more comfortable with men because he is a man. I swear, people who start crap should be able to take crap back!!! ugh!! I don't know Kim Garam, but if she was my child and somebody told her to unalive herself, I would hunt them down and make sure they were arrested and then I would sue. It takes a mentally ill person to tell somebody else to unalive themselves. Double ugh!! Park Eun Bin is doing an excellent job portraying an individual on the autism spectrum, so I know she can't be getting hate. I haven't watched the youtuber, who made the autism parody, but social media idiots will try anything to get views. Triple Ugh!
