Kang should've killed Ant-Man in Quantumania. Kang killing an Avenger would have made him a true Thanos level villain for Loki and the Avengers to take on in The Kang Dysnaty and Secret Wars.

Kang was defeated very easily in the comics many times. The problem with Kang wasn't that he was so smart or powerful, but that he could and would always return with knowledge of his previous defeats. The threat of Kang is that he can never truly be defeated because he can move through time. Quantumania didn't make that clear, but the Loki show is doing a great job with that.

Great points on why Scott should have been sacrificed. But I think it would also have made Cassie have a much stronger arc going forward. And it would have been such a great send off for Scott himself. Have him struggling with their relationship because he was gone during the snap and then structure the end as him sacrificing himself to save her. Have her asking “why did you do that?” And he could have replied “you’re my world” to call back to the beginning of the film.

My theory for when the movie came out was either Hank or Lang was going to die at the end to build up Kang as the next big bad. In order to do that you gonna kill of an established character (even if you find some cheap way to bring them back later) you kill Hank that would be the safer choice because it will simply turn into a Uncle Ben motivation. But you kill Scott Lang, and it becomes a bigger deal. This movie let both of them live.

As much as I disliked seeing Kang lose in Quantumania we may learn that being absorbed by the multiversal core is a cornerstone event in the eventual Prime Kang’s lifetime + power set. Where Quantumania really failed was giving us context for Kang, compare Thanos scenes in Guardians or Infinity War to Kang’s in AntMan3. Night and day, that brief memory that Janet showed was so short and uninteresting despite being built up as the big reveal Janet makes to Hope & Hank which she withholds for an hour and a half for no other good reason than the plot demanded she did. So not only did the movie skip over potentially important set up for future movies (what happened between this Kang & The Council, how does the time chair work, how was Kang able to construct all that tech?) but the answers we did get were either underwhelming or the same ones we got Loki S1.

Yes - given that the hype/introduction of Kang The Conqueror is what propelled Quantumania to a $106.1m domestic opening - a huge record for the Ant-Man franchise then making Kang appear more formidable perhaps at the cost at one or two of the protagonists in the movie while making the production feel a little more tactile (like Loki) would've been a smarter way to go!

I can probably do you one better, Cassie needs to know or see that Scott died at the hands of Kang. Not only as a way to make Cassie create the young avengers in response to Kang, or his other variants, returning but also in terms of Iron lad, if they choose to do the character. From what I know from the comics, both iron lad and Cassie have a romantic relationship, which could spiral due to iron lad being a Kang variant and create a massive tear in the group.

I can understand why they left Scott alive, but I think they really chose a bad way to do it. Actually, I like how the movie ends, because it starts with Scott showing off very often how he saved half of the universe in Endgame (an attitude that goes so well with his character), so to turn him from the saviour of half the universe to the one who condemned the entire multiverse is incredible. The bad thing is how they decided to tell that story, making Kang look like a pathetic villain instead of the next big threat of every known unverse.

I agree. In Quantumania, Kang felt like just another villain who gets defeated at the end of the movie. This thing is: this is THE villain, the biggest threat in the MCU right now. And one of the best ways to write a villain is for the people to hate it, but not hate in terms of disappointment, but to really hate it for how evil it is, such as 2012 Thanos in Endgame and his phrase “I am inevitable.”

Killing Scott or Hank for that matter would have been such a good pinnacle point for the saga and would serve as motivation for Cassie to join the Young Avengers. This movie deserves a death that would have a similar effect if not bigger than Phil Coulson's death in Avengers 1. This movie could have been way better but the potential was wasted. After watching quantumania, I also thought that they focused on the wrong Ant-Man. I thought it would have been more compelling for Kang to be concerned with Hank Pym's intellect, seeing him as a threat, and kidnapping him to solve his quantum issues, incarcerating the others, and Scott Lang breaking all of them out. MODOK would still be the warden of that prison. Still could have the natives of the quantum realm have their resistance, and Cassie still learning from them and assisting them. We also could have had Kang get rid of Hank Pym for that heaviness/gravitas, either killing him off or throwing him into a quantum storm of some kind, where the character would be recast, and we could get a younger, more exuberantly-expressive-about-science Hank Pym (Side note: I hope that Reed Richards is very exuberant when it comes to his science experiments).

Lang has always wanted to stand up for the little guy, do what was in his skill set to look after his family and clear his name. He has for most part changed some of his struggles into positives, but if he knew Kang was a threat to his family he had grown - he'd go to the limits of his capability to stop the threat. But, it wouldn't be enough to stop Kang sadly. Kang is a multi-versal threat even if there is only one Kang, if he wanted to kill an Avenger he could pick and kill any of them from all time and space given if he think they are worth a fight. I was pretty sure someone would die and not Modok (which was played off for laugh for some reason). I was sitting through the movie, hearing people laugh, telling Ma it will get serious and I nearly thought it would at the end - and it fell flat.

Looks up at Kang. Then Scott comes back. He's alive for 30 ish seconds then dies each time. Almost immediately Hope settles into a role of comforting Scott and staring hateful and didn't at Kang. It's just as brutal, but also leaves open a window for the Pyms to pull an End Game.

Nah, a more logical approach would be having Ant-Man just stall Kang's plans and not really had defeated him. Which is honestly what I thought they were going for when I saw the trailer with the line "I don't have to win. We both just have to lose!".

I dont think he HAD to die(but your idea is cool too) I think Antman should've scarified his freedom by trapping himself n Kang in the quantum realm. The ants couldve still help in the fight, buying time for the crew to open an escape portal but Kang manage to defeat the ants, get back at Antman in a brutal fight, but Hope and his daughter managed to leave. Its less dark but still threatning enough to be a great intro to Kang.

I totally agree. Here is a followup theory. What if in Kang Dynasty he meets the avengers and instakill Scott by jumping back in time to that moment, snapping his neck. The other Avengers and the audience would be completly shocked and in awe of this guy's power.

The whole movie needed to be sped up. The Ant family could have landed in the city and cut out that whole first part, cut the part with Bill Murray and just have Kang automatically know that Janet has returned, cut out MODOK and replace him with another heavy that doesn't need character development (maybe someone/thing that is already associated with Kang or time travel), Scott gets killed and Hope captured halfway through then everything else you said all in one movie. The whole Ant family are killed by the end, except for Cassie who escapes somehow. The post credit scene is Kang picking through the busted up Pym tech, implying that he's going to figure out how to use it to get out of the Quantum Realm. The stakes for the next installment are higher and everything is so much better.

The only other way this could’ve been better IMO is if we got Michael Douglas to suit up as Ant-Man (Hell even Janet as OG Wasp) and in the midst of the fight Hank and Janet sacrifice themselves and die in order to keep Scott and Hope alive and they escape the Quantum Realm but just when they thought everything was clear…Kang escapes along with them but to a different point in time compared to them. Post credit concludes with us finding out Kang is in a different point in time and vows to conquer all.

When Kang says that he will make Scott watch his daughter die over and over again MUST be a little hint that that Kang becomes he who remains. That repeating torture was done in season 1 of Loki by the TVA. but I still think Victor is not the same as Kang/he who remains. Victor is too weak and is either going to die or go away somehow. All of their variants have most likely made a similar time chair but not all actually used it. That's my guess

I'm more in the camp that Kang should've effortlessly escaped as soon as he got the core (a competent win for the big bad), and left Modak to send the Army and do with the Ant-family as he pleases (since annihilating them is PERSONAL to Darren for derailing his life). The movie ending with Scott and Hope holding off Modak, stopping kangs Army from escaping, and being trapped in the quantum realm as a part of the "rebels" army (who continuing to fight Modak's army as credits role, leaving the Ant-fam that escaped the task of getting them out in future MCU projects). In short, Modak should have been more active, played more seriously, and handed the reigns as villain of the movie, while Hope and Scott's fate are left uncertain trapped in the quantum realm in a war with him.🤷🏽‍♂️

Wanda was hyped up for literally 7 years to be the Scarlet Witch & then when we finally saw her, all she did was shoot red lasers out of her hands, Kang has been anticipated & waited on for like 5 years now & then when we finally see his move set, he shoots blue lasers out of his hands & we get a 2 second close up on his face as he shoots them, twice.

My problem with Kang is that everything their doing with him is just telling us he’s killed countless avengers and how big of a threat he is but they’re not showing it. Every variant we’ve seen so far have not portrayed as a superior to Thanos. He Who Remains gets killed by Silvi, Kang gets beat by Ant-Man, and now Victor Timely is getting chased by 1800’s townsfolk.

To me, it seems like they’re putting Scott onto an arc like Tony after Avengers 1. Tony was constantly working and worrying about another invasion by Thanos, until he finally made a suit that could actually combat Thanos. Scott and the Ant fam can do something similar where they’re so worried about Kang that they constantly tinker with their quantum tech in order to combat Kangs ability to travel and knowledge of the multiverse and time travel

While the idea would be interesting, there would only be two characters that could be killed - Scott and Janette. If Hank would stay behind or get killed there wouldn’t be any more Pym particles and thus no more Ant-man or Wasp. And if Hope got killed there would be criticism that she got fridged. But as another commenter pointed out, maybe this defeat is necessary to kick Kang into overdrive and get him to the point where he can and will really take on the Council of Kangs and the Avengers.

This was very gruesome - I think that we could've had similar stakes if Hope and Scott just got trapped down there at the end of the film and it end there. At least then it would have something to follow up on in another project. Scott also could have died like you suggested and that would be good too but it didn't have to get so dark with Wasp having to relive the death over and over again because Kang doesn't have his time tech to make that happen (which you literally said in the beginning).

In my opinion this should have been more of an Ant Man movie like the two others focusing on the relationship between the characters especially the Van Dyne family using a lot of Michael Douglas skills than inevitably turning the attention to the Quantum Realm with MODOK being the main villain sending the signal and dragging them there as him being revealed as the secret benefactor watching the events from outside would make more sense that he would have beaten by Ants. In a post credit scene it’s revealed that Kang was behind this and decided to take things by his own hands. It would have been cool some interactions with other characters like Jimmy Woo or Louis.

I agree with the overall premise of, “show me, don’t tell me.” But snapping Antmans neck and forcing the Wasp to watch his reanimated corpse be repeatedly re-killed might be a little too far for a Disney film trying to target kids of all ages. Still a great job Ryan. Your marvel takes lately are all of us.

Also i think the main villian is actually ms. Minutes... he who remains called time a prison and that he wanted to be killed to be set free. Im starting to think ms. Minutes is an AI made from a scan of ramona remslayers brain and that the ai fell in love with kang like ramona did. And she wanted kang all to herself and eventually trapped him with her at the end of time and the ending of season 1 was really kang trying to escape a prison he ultimately made for himself.

I don't think anyone needed to die but at least Scott and/or Hope should've been trapped in the Quantum world, with or without Kang. Yeah it's going to be a repeat of Antman 2 or would be a repeat of Janet's storyline but who gives a crap about that? The consistency of the tone of the movie and sticking the landing was far more important than the minor detail of reharshing the same plot. Plus unlike last time when Scott got stuck in the Quantum world alone where it was only 30 minutes for him (but 5 years outside), they could make it that this time he spend FAR longer there, and there's still a bunch of lifeform and Hank's now intelligent ants down there which he could interact with and grow as a person, making Scott be detached from all his old mentors and friends like Hank or the Avengers completely would've been a nice starting point for his next character arc.

OMG. Im so tried of hearing that kang should be more menacing or threatening when Thanos only showed up in little cameos until Infinity war. That whole time Thanos didn't have is best weapon the Gauntlet. And he was still menacing or whatever. Kang has YET to show of his best weapon in a fight. TIME. The finale for season one of Loki shows he time travel to avoid attacks, now combine that with his tech in the quantum realm which were things that he cobbled together with material from there and not the future. Its like they're showing all the pieces of the Kang we'll see in the next Avengers movie.

I agree with this so heavily and I honestly believe super hero movies as a whole need to take a darker more serious turn. Granted they’re fun family movies but they’re starting to lose their umph and this is where shows like Gen V, the Boys, and Invincible excel. They show that supers with these world shaking powers are actually life and death for people in the wrong place at the wrong time. We need power scaling that results in real permanent consequences. Kang being this time traveling warlord who’s taken on MANY avengers and bested them all should’ve walked all over the ant family. And it would’ve definitely set the devastating tone that Kang is a series threat to the timeline the same way we were all absolutely blown away when Thanos ACTUALLY fulfilled his destiny. People literally hated the character and we should have the same scale for Kang

Quantumania was a movie that i was pretty excited to see, because it featured kang, and after seeing tv shows like Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes as a kid and seeing how he took on 7 heroes single-handedly, and almost won, it really was a big disappointment when he got beat up by a bunch of ants. I think both Hank Pym and Janet should have sacrificed themselves to save Scott and Hope, because it helps their character arc, or even if the og ant man and the wasp plus scott and hope sacrifice themselves, it will make cassie a better character, and she would want revenge against kang for murdering her dad, and maybe there would have been a rematch in kang dynasty or secret wars between the two of them

I agree and will add the end of Loki should have set up Multiverse of Madness and No Way Home. Those two movies should have DIRECTLY and visually connected to Loki. The death of Kang should have unleashed Nightmare or Mephisto who should have played a direct role in No Way Home and Multiverse of Madness. So we could really see how dangerous Kangs existence and how important his existence is. Instead we got randomly sad mom goes on killing spree and grumpy wizard and angsty Spiderman cause an avengers level disaster. We should have seen him killing avengers.

I had a similar telling of the quantamania, where both antman died....hope gets injured and while the "portal" is open the family take hope back and paul is getting wrecked...then Kang gets knocked by an invisible punch and Hank unshrinks and both do everything they can to keep Kang from entering the portal. Both then sacrifice themselves while Kangs unleashes an energy blast to free himself from the collapse of the timechair "thingy" where both antman are pulled into, but the portal dose close before Kang can reach it, keeping him stuck in the quantum realm... Tbh....I was abit buzzed while telling this so don't be too judgemental...haha

I mean if you want to go dark he'd probably be better off killing them all but Janet. She should've known better so she would be the one punished, then after she could be the one to reveal he's coming to the other heroes. But due to all her time in the quantum realm nobody really knows or believes her. She'd be a woman who spent decades imprisoned and now the world is missing the reason she wanted free in the first place. It would be captivating to watch her drag the rest of the MCU into the fight because she's so caught up in vengeance she can't see the consequences.

I feel like Sylvie killed He who Remains and then that unleashed all the Kang variants obvs in Loki S2 He Who Remains setted up a path where Victor Timely becomes the Superior Variant again but Prob the chain of event's cause Victor Timely to become the Kang the Conqueror as we know HWR killed many timelines so only he remains and there is one timeline and in all this somewhere after Victor becomes Kang all the other Variants kicks Kang out of Timeline and into the Quantum real
@BrockSamsonite

Ryan i came to a theory. If he who remains is really victor timely... and Victor timely is a conartist/inventor... That means eveything he said in the finale of season 1 was a lie meant to make sylvie kill him to reset the timeline over and over. Because thats really what he wants. Its classic reserve psychology tell her not to kill you after tormenting her until she wants nothing but to kill him. Kang wound sylvie up and set her off. The reason victor is surprised and excited when we meet him for the first time is because he wasnt expecting to see two lokis. Meaning he only ever planned on slyvie being there. Loki was always written to be victors villian of the sacred timeline. I think the shows final finale is gonna be a heartbreaking end with loki realizing he has to kill sylvie before she can kill victor in order to truly set her free from victors stranglehold over her and the timeline. Because loki is going to learn that contray to what prof. Hulk thinks, you actually can change the future or the past... but only by choosing in the moment (the present) to be a different variant than what victor is using his time loom to write their free will into. Maybe just maybe the time loom is another con and doesnt do what victor claims it does. Maybe instead of refining time as he says the loom really is a device that lets victor influence peoples ability to make choices. Because victor never intended to kill sylvie he needs her to kill him to reset the timeline. Also i think kang from quantumania was trapped in the quantum zone lost to time because he got pruned and lost his temporal aura. Which would also explain how victor plans to keep his other variants in time jail lost with no achoring auras. All the variants of victor most likely pruned by victor prime all ended up in chronopolis and had to fight each other for dominance which resulted in kang. And in antman quantumania scott bursts into spagetti at one point which is what O.B. says happens when you fall into a black hole. And i think the spaghetti is the prime becoming variants. Each strand being a variant. And when scott wins kang vanishes into what appears to swallow him up like a blackhole. Maybe this is the moment when kang prime was split into the kang variants, not the victor timely variants.

It doesn't make sense for Kang to kill anyone in the Ant family. Loki S.2 ep.3 called out Victor Timely as a confidence trickster. Timely even says, "I can make my own choices. I'm not the man you think I am." If this Victor Timely is to become Kang, then playing a long con is within his character than killing for no reason. The long con being Kang tricking the Council of Kangs and the Ant family into thinking he was dead. 🤷🏾‍♀

Yes! Kang should have tortured Ant-man to setup the next phase! Kang should have been terrifying. The reason the Heath Ledger Joker is so scary is because the audience has no idea what he could do next. The MCU has totally forgotten how to write a good villain. A great hero arch needs an equally compelling villain arch. Watch Arcane, The Dark Knight, or even Toy Story 4. A good antagonist is needed to drive the story and often carry the story forward.

I agree 10000% if the whole next set of movies and TV series has been and going to be built up to Kang coming. How do you let Antman beat him in a hand-to-hand fight? I was so mad leaving the movie after seeing the ending. One of the things I loved about Thanos and the Infinity Stones movies was Thanos never lost any battle with any Avengers and with other Avengers which made me as a fan not deep into the comic books see Thanos as a serious problem for the Avengers to defeat. Kang lost to the Antman in a hand-to-hand fight so how can you make me feel like he can fight all the Averagers at once or even fight the Hulk? Whos great idea was that

I don’t know if I thought Ant-man should’ve died, but I do I’d think Ant-man and the wasp should’ve been stranded in the Quantum realm until like the next avenger or crossover film. It just felt like what was at stake? Janet was like this door won’t stay open for long, we need to get out or we are stuck. Door closed and Cassie opens a new one like 3 mins later… I think the film should’ve ended with Kang winning and escaping. Then Ant-man and the wasp are stranded. Then throughout the subsequent movies or shows, we see this Kang slowly rebuild or reclaim his power.

Yeah, THIS, exactly. Thanos worked because the movies set us up to be scared of him from the jump. The first time our heroes cross paths with him, he defeats the strongest Asgardians PLUS the Hulk, leaving two dead gods in his wake. Whereas Kang basically monologues at Loki the first time we meet him and then gets his ass kicked by Ant-Man the second, and well…the mightiest Avenger, Ant-Man ain’t. It doesn’t feel like there are any stakes with Kang, despite what comic fans know he’s capable of, and it means his status as a heavy hitter is D.O.A. I hope Feige can right the ship, but if they’d done it your way, they’d be golden by now (*ahem* aside from She-Hulk and Secret Invasion).

The fact that the council was shown to track and then possibly trap Scott Lang and the Quantum gang in a mini reality is terrifying in itself. Not to mention Kang could have been transported somewhere far more suited for him to add fuel to a more swift and shocking revenge-driven death.
