In Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania, Kang tells Janet Van Dyne that the multiverse is dying, and the only way to prevent incursions is to erase trillions of lives from existence. This is similar to Thanos' plan to erase half of all lives -- and then eventually in Avengers Endgame, to erase ALL of existence and start over. Kang didn’t care about overpopulation at all. The trillions died simply so he could be the Conqueror over his other variants. That’s also what makes a Kang a Kang…untamable desire to win.

Before his exile, he had conquered a number of realities and killed countless heroes to establish power. He held no empathy for the people of these timelines and simply massacred them all. In his own twisted way, he believed that conquering the multiverse was to save it from his variants in the Council of Kangs and prevent incursions from happening. In this sense, he believed that he was doing the right thing and justified his killings and murderous rampages with a “royal purpose”. Kang, due to his instability, was vulnerable to self-deception, since the main justification for his actions was that he saw a creator god of realities by destroying others. Kang even stated that if he couldn’t escape the Quantum Realm, all of reality would be destroyed by his variants, showing that this Kang truly believed himself to be doing the right thing.

I remember he was shortly aligned with them in the comic books I think? But if I'm remembering right he betrayed them as soon as their usefulness was used up?? I could be wrong I just don't have any memories of a trustworthy Thanos lol and I always thought Adam Warlocks alter ego The Magus was the biggest threat before beyonder came and made them look like panzies. The story was about the beyonders and they killed the living tribunal and they were about to wipe out every superhero/mutant. I remember that Deadpool being banned from the realm of the dead at Thanos's wishes for fooling around with Death and death was also loved by Thanos and so if he can't die they can never be together.

Thanos set the bar so high, that marvel has to rely on cheap, convenient writing to make anyone else seem comparable. In reality, Thanos is the best the mcu will ever have. They should have just packed it in before ruining every other villain after him... like gore

Every Kang wants preserve his own timeline because I’m assuming if not the loop ends in either the death of the multiverse or A Kang winning like what we saw in Loki with he who remains. Kang is also effectively immortal. In comics when a character time travels as much as Kang they are embedded in that universe and can always come back

Nah I'm going to answer why in terms of MCU and how it would make for a short movie. As Gorr the god butcher lil g, since gorr easily made his way to the door to eternity and he literally was a desert planet peasant and he was aware of eternity and that was still available. Also I am not sure if I was to go and get a wish that you couldn't get it to work at a different time??

Stormbreaker was created much later. It was created almost when Thanos has got all the stones so there is no chance Thanos knew that storm breaker has all these abilities.

Thanos wanted to save the universe from itself by wiping half of it out for the sake of resources in order to maintain balance. Kang wants to save the universe from himself (variants of himself) by wiping out other timelines in order to maintain the balance of the Sacred Timeline.
