Day 2 of telling Kan he should time a run to the sawmill and back (like you did when testing the snowplow) that way you can do the same run when they increase the speed limits, and compare. That way your viewers can get a better sense of how things are affected by the speed change

I believe the name of the labor foreman for the Central Pacific (the rails coming from California) was Charles Crocker and he was instrumental in bringing in lots of Chinese to work the railroad. Fun fact, a steam engine cannot go down steep hills due to the top of the boiler getting exposed to air heating it up rapidly making it so hot that when you level out the heat causes the water to evaporate instantly and expand violently i.e exploding causing a rupture in the already softened boiler and blowup like a bomb.
@nocare
@nocare Жыл бұрын
Luckily this is only a 10% grade which is like 5.5 degrees or something. A lot for a train but not a problem for uncovering the fire box so long as the boiler is properly filled.
@maxhagenauer24
@maxhagenauer24 Жыл бұрын
But why can't it go diwn steep hills? What aur us heating it up? The heat of the air resistance when going fast enough?
@nocare
@nocare Жыл бұрын
@@maxhagenauer24 The fire boxes, where all the coal sits as it burns. This is a water cooled structure the temperature inside is more than enough to severely weaken the steel if the steel is not properly cooled. At steep enough angles the water inside the boiler will flow forward enough inside the train that part of the firebox is only covered in steam. This alone generally is not enough to cause a problem because the fire box is so over built. However when the train levels out the water can come rushing back over the super heated metal and flash vaporize. The rapid increase in pressure causes the fire box to fail and sometimes the entire locomotive explodes. This was only a problem at low water levels because no track was steep enough on its own to uncover the fire box. If standard steam locomotives were actually capable of climbing such steep grades they would have regularly been designed to descend them. In reality most trains never saw more than 1 or 2 degree slopes.

I feel like loops are useful. I mean you can put a loop and then make shunt line in between the loop. I made the long run to the coal mine and with the climax I find that at 2 percent increase of grade it is probably no faster nor does it take longer than going up a 10 percent grade. Plus I can run just two engines whereas kan and hyce will have to use every single engine they have till they get better engines.

Hi Kan, I think the reason your track was different grades at different lengths is because the track you where first attaching to was 5%. Ideally wouldnt you want to go down backwards to make sure enough water stays on the firebox? Going down a long 10% would cause the water in the boiler to slosh to the front of the engine away from the firebox, causing the bos to get extremely hot on top, and then when you level out at the bottom the water sloshes back onto the top of the red hot boiler and turns to steal causing the engine to explode

I'm leaving this here for Kan: Fashion's purpose is two fold, 1 part Aesthetics and 2 part comfort in form. The point of Fashion shows is literally through an Artistic presentation to convince the Wealthy to order Clothes from a designer or designer house. The wealthy are there to be entertained and Designer shop, the designers are there to Entertain and sell their skill. So if you're watching a fashion show and laughing at the ridiculous designs the designer is doing part of their job right if you see something and wish you could buy and wear it also then the designer has won the show. That's Fashion shows in a nut shell. Fashion in general is just what makes me look at my absolute best, and bonus points if it's super comfortable to wear. edit: the Engineering Equivalent is British Locomotives in comparison to American Locomotives, British locomotives being more High Fashion and American being more Low Fashion in nature. Fashion = in Aesthetic and/or in purpose of function Air brakes are in Fashion hiding the compressors for Air brakes is in High Fashion just having them is Low Fashion not to shame your significant other but not being able to explain that is a bit unrefined even for a high class lady.

One thing about abstract art. I once was at a museum and saw a piece that was two light bulbs wrapped together and hung from the wall. At first I thought, “what’s the point of that.” Then I read the plaque next to it. It was made by a gay rights activist and artist, Felix Gonzalez-Torres. His partner, Ross died of AIDS and he made many sculptures to him. This piece, known as “Untitled (March 5th) #2,” has amazing symbolism. I’ll quote from The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, “Felix Gonzalez-Torres was a gay-rights activist whose subtle political commentary included personal statements on the emotional devastation of AIDS. In 1991, after his partner, Ross, died of AIDS, Gonzalez-Torres created numerous memorials to him, including Untitled (March 5th) # 2, which commemorates Ross' birth date. Here, two factory-made light bulbs shine together to suggest a pair of lovers in one shared point of illumination. Although they glow brightly in unison, one bulb will inevitably burn out before the other, reminding us of the transience of human relationships and the temporality of life.” At first glance I saw nothing special, then once I learned the deep meaning behind it, it became one of my favorite pieces of art. It stays in my memory and I think of it often.

Fine art markets is all about tax dodges and money laundering. Art is specifically priced the first time to make it so that a rich investor can purchase it and then donate it, to pay next to nothing on taxes as its written off come tax season. Once the value has been inflated like this, criminal's can buy it from art dealerships or from collectors to wash their money... and then also, donate it again to a different collection or dealership for the tax break. Its why good art costs thousands, and arguably derivative or half assed art goes for millions.
