I Built a Single Engine Torpedo Bomber Plane! (Scrap Mechanic Gameplay)

Back again with more Scrap Mechanic! Today we are back with another epic creation for marine use, the torpedo bomber plane! I've always been a big fan of the single engine propeller planes that carry a single torpedo and decided to build one that flies only with its own propellers! This plane is also fully destructible so you can use it in battle scenarios!

Two things: 1: I think a flywheel, either invisible or internal would be better than suspension glitches for flyability. 2: It'd be really cool to do a Multiplayer Monday where everyone builds attack boats and sees how long they can survive vs everyone else coming at them with these planes.

Another idea, to MM, is to make an aerial battle, the players could be in pairs, and each pair has to make an attack or two planes and a carry plane that could have spudguns and turrets to defense. Could be interestant have scenes in that on turret is disable and the player has to go to another turret, like the B-17 bomber, etc.

It only works for really large propellers sadly, for example it made my helicopter very stable, it doesn-t rotate at all, but for kAN-s plane you end up with a propeller that will never be strong enough, just tried it.

You should make a destructible bomber plane and a destroyer ship with automated machine guns that shoot at you and then you have to try and bomb the ship without getting taken down, I think it would be a really cool concept, of course it would have to use mods for the plane tracking and stuff

The torpedo might need some fins for stabilization. They could help it to fly more or less level while the thruster is on. And I don't know if aerodynamics are stronger for parts that are underwater, but if that's the case, the fins would also better line the torpedo up with the travel direction of the plane, even when it hits the water with a spin.

Moonbo creates an anti-submarine destroyer with a a rapid fire deck gun, and now Kan has a destructible torpedo bomber plane. A future MM is going to be a WWII style battle if the game can handle it. Really nice build! Could you build a contra rotating propeller system?

Multiplayer Monday Challenge: It's a 2v1asemetric idea. • You modify the submarine to be unable to dive. • Set up a bunch of targets for the sub to shoot with torpedoes. (Make sure they can't be destroyed with spuds) • Team 2 consists of 1 gunner plane and 1 surface only sub. • Team 1 consists of 1 torpedo plane. • The objective for team 2 is for the sub to destroy all the targets with torpedoes where the gunner plane is to guard the sub. • The objective for team 1 is to destroy the sub using only the torpedoes before they destroy all the targets. Rules: • You take turns each round swapping who is doing what (Player 1's turn to be the sub, Player 2's turn to be T-Plane, ect). • The torpedo plane and gunner plane can respawn whenever they want, but doing so would cost them time to actually get a new plane and take off, which the other team can take advantage of. This is the only way the torpedo plane can acquire a new torpedo. • The Sub cannot respawn. If the sub is no longer able to continue, that's it. The round is over. • Both planes may use their spud cannons but only to take out the other plane. They are not to be used to destroy the sub targets or the sub itself. • Points are determined by both time and score. By that I mean the sub score is based on how many targets you take out as the sub (if the T-Plane accidently takes out one of the targets, that still counts). If score is tied (like if multiple people took out all the targets during their turn as the sub) then the faster time is then the defining factor of who won. • When everyone had a turn at every vehicle, that's when you compare scores to determine the winner. It's all based on your performance when it was your turn at the sub, but to make sure the gunner plane plays fair whatever score their teammate gets, half of whatever that score and time was will be added onto what that gunners score is (So if Player 1 destroyed 4 targets when they were a sub. That's 4 points on the board. If next round they are gunner plane where player 3 is the new sub and player 3 destroys 5 targets, that's +2.5 to Play 1's score, so 4+2.5 to get 6.5 total score). How you balance and tweak this is up to you. Maybe if you have 4 players, player 4 helps the sub with reloading and warning of incoming torpedo. (Torpedoes can't hit a target that's submerged, which is why submerging needs to be disabled).

It would be super cool for you to build a dual-engine dive bomber. Maybe not super realistic, but it would be stable, and easy to line up for bombing runs. Maybe even put like a Stuka siren on it?

I think an idea to help stop the torque, is just to have a contra-rotating propellor. Theoretically, that would mean the torque would cancel itself out, and you would get some pretty decent power too.

Do a helicopter next! I just made one and i'd love to see your take in making one. Mine's completely stable as I used suspension glitch for flight controls, a stabilizer on the tail, and a contra-rotating twin blade (so 4 blades total) propeller so the heli takes off straight.

I really love this series of builds! I would love to see a second version for the ship though. Instead of it being full of explosives you ahould make a version with spudguns inside. And if there is a hole in the hull a spudgun starts shooting bubbleblock. More holes means more shooting spudguns and than you have a ship that slowly sinks.

multiplayer challenge: 2 v 2 bombers versus boat. a boat being driven by one player and armed by another. the bombers can do whatever they want, they just have to kill the boat. whoever lives the longest in the boat wins.

Contra rotating propellor i.e. Westland wyvern or the later supermarine seafire. By spinning 2 props in opposite directions from the same propellor you get practically no torque

This sadly doesn-t work, I just downloaded kAN-s plane from the workshop to try and see if it fixes it, end result is the plane won-t take off because the contra rotating props aren-t fast enough

A soloution for the torque problem is to use counter-rotating propellars. A few singe engine planes have used them (such as the A2D or Wyvern).

Hi! An idea from Besiege to counter the torque: build your propeller this way: 1)free bearing 2)some mass (bunch of heavy blocks) 3) your powered bearing 4) the propeller. If it works like in besiege, you should have no torque on the plane everything being reparted between the mass and the propeller. That said, it may not work with scrap mechanic physics...

So hear me out, if you use one engine for the propeller, why not use the same engine for a gyrostabilizer spinning in the opposite direction? That would be a much easier way to counteract the spin. Also, please make a multiplayer race where you, ScrapMan, Kosmo, and Moonbo all have to build your own plane for that bomb (you can provide the logic, so they have something to start from), start with it from a forest, and have to fly, land the torpedo while everyone else uses a single-mounted-spudgun turret to try to shoot your plane down, and after everyone else either succeeded or failed in getting one point for the target and another point for getting away safely, all planes launch again together, drop the torpedo on different unguarded targets located in different corners of the map, then start fighting eachother until there is only one person left, the first to go out gets no point and every other person gets one point more than the person who got taken out before them in order. That way, the first part would get some people enough of an advantage to make the aerial fights less biased towards Scrapman winning.

To solve the torque problem you could build a plane with contra-rotating propellers (two props on the same shaft spinning in opposite directions) like the Westland Wyvern which was actually an attacker/torpedo-bomber, this will cancel the torque while still making it look like a single engine plane

What would totally help is having the whole prop tilted to the right the same way actual planes have And your prop is turning the wrong way That would help with the counter roll problem So in summary make the propeller spin other way and tilt it by a few digress to the right

You should do a mm challenge with these. You can add an AA gun to the transport ship. You will build a plane within using thrusters nor spudguns. The gunner will try protect the ship while the rest tries to blow it up.

Why didnt you put a counter-active gyro? Just make a bearing spin an equal mass weight inside the fuselage (make it longer for more weight and have weight go one block out in 4 directions) at the same speed as the propeller, just connecting it to the same engine and it should relatively work. (This is all theoretical and I have like 18 hours on the game so take it as you will)

you should do a multiplayer Mondy video with the sud and this plane. it would be a 2v2 and it would be 1 sub per team and 1 plane per team. you could add a small gun to the top of the sud for when the plane gets shot down. you guys can add any other rule or things if you see fit
