I don't believe that is the original rock engraving, at 6:44 , as it is written in the current Portuguese spelling, not the one they would have used in 1488. keep the great work, I really enjoy your videos, and this Namibia series is coming really useful, as I intend to travel there in 2022. greetings from Brazil

Definitely true, and I also noticed that Dias and Angra Pequena are sometimes misspelled (written Diaz and Angra Pequeña). Anyway, Lūderitz is very charming little city.

May I ask what tripod you have there please. Looks like carbon, lightweight , Ideal for bicycle journeys very enjoyable, as always This is on my bucket list as a bicycle traveller
@Kangela
@Kangela Жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for taking the time to comment, it's really appreciated. The tripod I use for this kind of trip is a lightweight carbon one by Peak Design. It's very stable, compact and quite light. There are even lighter ones available, but the stability is compromised, I've found the Peak Design to be the best all rounder.

Hie. Enjoyed your video. Is Luderitz a cool town to stay? Any worthwhile cafés, a Library and a swimming pool in the town?
@Kangela
@Kangela 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kehlani, it's probably not what I'd call a "cool" town, it's very much a fishing and port town, I don't think that there's a whole lot going on in the way of entertainment. When we were there a lot of stuff was still closed down because of restrictions, but I think maybe more businesses are open again now. There is a library, but not a public swimming pool as far as I know of, but some hotels have pools. Your best bet in that regard would be to do a Google search. I hope this helps, sorry not to be more helpful.

We might not have a lot of entertainment, but we do have a lot of history and historic buildings like the FelsenKirche for example. We also have several beaches either on the Peninsula or at Agate Beach. We also have camping areas on Shark Island. Shops and businesses are open again. If you're brave enough you can go swimming in the ocean, if you don't mind the cold. There's also a tennis court, stadium and gym. For more information you can also ask me since I'm a local to Luderitz. I know we don't have much in the way of entertainment, but we make our own. Some of us have been playing Pokémon go since 2016.

@@Kangela No problem. I think we're a bit underrated because of our isolated location. Sure we have a Harbour, road and railway, but we're quite far from the main north/south route from the South African border through Keetmanshoop to Windhoek. I forgot to mention the tours we do, either the Namib tour, or the one going to Bogenfels for example. There's also the katamaran tours to Halifax Island with the penguins. If you're a Pokémon go player like myself, Luderitz is one of the best places for that outside of Windhoek and Walvis Bay. We got the third highest number of locations outside of those areas. The only location we don't go to would be the one at Diaz Point. It's because it's 17 kilometers out of town and the signal there is bad. As for places like Keetmanshoop for example, they either don't have or they just have two or three locations. Now, these locations are called pokestops and gyms and are at historical locations.

Visited a few days ago. Dissapointed to find no tourism and heritage activities going on. The information centre was closed down. The only tourism & safari company is no more operating? Pity though for such a unique beautiful town with a lot of touristic potential. If you ask around the locals give you a don't-know-for sure reply.
