The horizontal crack in the block partition wall is subsidence of part of the foundation. If you plan to keep the wall you can simply fill the crack with cement and that will make it all good again. Nowadays a lot of people would demolish the block wall and replace it with a wooden framed partition wall with plasterboard after laying the new floor down in that area of the house, might be worth looking into and comparing pros/cons

this might be a stupid question but why are you taking the floor up? I see loads of people now on these cottage reno channels taking up the floor, back 30 yrs ago when i bought an old cottage and knew loads of others doing the same, nobody took the floor up, like its been there 200yrs doing a grand job, we were prob just lazy bastards

Damp problem Janis, need a breathable alternative to concrete (limecrete) and a venting system to allow moisture move up and out of the floor rather than trying to trap it below, where it has clearly been causing problems which aren't currently quite so obvious from these first two rooms. We figured it was a safer bet long term to just upgrade the basic infrastructure in each room to minimise the risk of it returning.
