I hate it when Toriel is portrayed like that. In the original, her reasons were much more complex. During the pacifist, Tori says that if Asgore really wanted to free the monsters, he would have crossed the barrier with one soul, killed 6 more people there and destroyed the barrier, but instead he hoped that no more humans would fall into the underground like a coward. So Tory doesn’t like Asgore, because he finds himself in a situation where he doesn’t want to leave the underground, but still kills humans.She's no better though. She left her husband and people and ran away from problems. If Asgore tried to do at least something, she gave up immediately.

i sorta get the dislike for toriel i guess, but at the same time, she did lose 2 children in one night. one of them being a human child. it makes perfect sense to me why she would be against the killing of human children, considering she was a mother who lost her kids. it makes sense why she would lash out at those around her because of it, she's got some horrible trauma

Toriel hate because of GLITCHTALE is stupid because GT!Toriel isn’t canonically accurate. While I do think that a lot of Asgore hate by the UNDERTALE community is unjustified I think that Toriel and Asgore are about even with their stupidass decision making in canon UT. I mean Asgore literally killed 6 humans even though he could’ve at least let them live their lives in the underground until their natural death if they weren’t violent. At least until the seventh soul came. Edit: I have no idea why I used the word selfish instead of stupid. Must’ve been tired or something. Also changed „stupid“ to „not canonically accurate“ to not use „stupid“ twice.

Here’s a thought, why don’t we let the humans grow up in the underground and absorb their soul after they die of cancer or something? Then Asgore (or whoever absorbed it) goes to surface and works at a hospice or hospital or something, your bound to find dying people will to give their soul to some horrible monster! A truly peaceful way out.

@KANGROSE I get that you hate Toriel and that's fine, but how you describe Asgore as purely as a king that would sacrafice enemy to free his people is not fully right. Asgore does care for his people, but you forget that Asgore is a coward as it was not needed for him to WAIT years for someone to fall down causing More years of depression for monsters as its stated through Asriel and Chara that all it take to get through the barrier is a monster and one human soul. If he truly wanted he could absorb a soul and gone out and killed adults who were bad people, but he didn't because he was a coward to do so he wait for years letting his people become more depressed and then killed childern. Toriel even states that's the reason she hates Asgore the way she dose. I think toriel is a bit more sympathetic that you make her out to be. i dont think its that she doesnt get that asgore is doing it for the monsters, but sees chara in each of these humans. i always interpreted it as toriel thinking there HAS to be another solution. ANY other solution that doesnt require human kids. i mean, if you think about it, couldn't you take the kids in, like she does, and raise them, eventually teaching them the neccesary magic to tak down the barrier? sure, she reacts harshly to the deaths. sure, she shouldn't have left monsterkind, but if you take her seeing chara in these humans, then shes seeing her husband killing what she (irrationally) sees as chara, her adopted child. i see her going to the ruins to carry out the plan of raising the humans to be able to destroy the barrier, trying to protect the children, and while it leaves the kingdom without a queen, she wants to get out without bloodshed. of course, this is my personal interpretation, and maybe im defending toriel because i relate strongly to that protective motherly instinct of hers, but im interested to see what you think. im open to debate on the subject, as long as both parties take it lightly and good-spirited. i dont want to argue angrily also this has been SO annoying to type out. my computer's e key isn't working, so im just copy and pasting every instance of the letter e in this entire monologue ive written here.

I remember I noticed when watching someone else's playthrough, one of the first things she says is that she comes by every day to see if anyone has fallen down. Now, to a new player, this sounds like she's only looking for humans, but if you remember that just before monsters die they enter essentially a coma before turning to dust. This state being referred to as "fallen down." Suddenly, her not specifying humans becomes a lot more important. She's looking to see if any monsters are dying so she can give them a proper ending. Or whatever monsters do for their dead family and friends

i get your toriel hate. my thing is that she could've gone with the any of the kids and prevented them from dying. she could've talked to asgore and stopped him from fighting or literally anything other than just hiding in the ruins. i get that she hates him but if your going to go hide away and not do anything, then you can't just show up acting like you was doing something even though all the kids you was trying to protect died anyways.

to be fair to tori asgore's first kill aka when she left he likely out of anger and revenge for his dead kids and 2 wrongs don't make a right also as noted if it was just pragmatic he would have left after 1 and got the rest not waited for 7 to fall she has been completely cut off in the ruins for 6 to fall could be hundreds of years with only the worst thing that she ever experienced of asgore to reflect on only knowing that they had been slaughtered one by one his justifications were unknown and were still just that what he did was awful even if he did those actions for just reasons both sides are hurt and both are wrong neither is really more right or wrong in my opinion

i will explain this, in undertale lore: toriel hates asgore because he killed 6 humans, and why? because he was scared, you can break the barrier with 1 soul, asgore didnt want to break the barrier like that, he wanted to be a god, and toriel didnt like that, thats the reason you dont need 7 souls to break the barrier, with 1 soul you can do it, toriel isnt selfish, asgore is
