This is very helpful. But I have some questions on notation: - which notation would you use to describe on a score what he did with the plunger mute? when he stayed on the same tone but moved his mute... I want to use it but I'm not sure how. - which notation would you use for the "rip"? A glissando between an octave, would that be clear or would you do it otherwise?

Good questions. Regarding rip. Refer to Kurt Stone music notation book pg 202.. You can draw a slur/gliss between start and destination note and add the words rip. For plunger. Use + and 0 to indicate open and close.

Also, you can have like lines for how open is the plunger. Then use a curvy line to notate the transitions.
