1:13:18 VNs probably focus around HS bc that’s the best time of most Japanese people’s lives. Whereas in America you could say it was elementary school, you could say high school, for me personally it was middle school, and for many it’s college or even being rich retired grandparents.

I feel like it's a universal fiction thing since I do see highschool as still being the primary place stories focus around in american media too - just look at where most american comics start. I think the "best time" is also the "time when people start realizing their potential" - 青春 stories and what not

I think it’s good that you’re focusing on Quality over Quantity. Some people have too many videos/podcasts or content in general.

amazing podcast, as always! curious about that clipboard plugin/app, never used it... where can I learn about it? install it and understand it. If there is a video explaining it and mixing it with yomitan it would be superb!

Thanks for the interest - you can click on a users profile, then look at the reviews tab. Here they are: vndb.org/w?u=u196330

You could incorporate more listening to your VN reading by watching let's plays. This way you get all sentences voiced and live commentary from the video author. I am watching an Umineko let's play now, and the author quite often stops reading and goes on a 5-10 minute free talk about the mystery, which is great for my listening. I have completed Eustia this way (although there is no ecchi content this way).

I have done this with Higurashi actually. I highly recommend this guy's content: www.youtube.com/@healthiya. The downside, having done this for layton games, higurashi, gyakuten saiban series, steins gate and more, is that unless you're keeping up very well with the vocab, it can be easier to whitenoise the material if it's "auto play" mode or watching a video. The intentional clicking forward after you've read seems to help me take my time. I say this, because I actually tried to do what we're describing for a muramasa let's play, but found it to be very ineffective at that time w/ my Japanese level (3 years ago) - not impossible, just ineffective. As far as listening goes, while it does help, I have nearly 0 problems keeping up in the sort of situation where there's subtitles available. The real challenge is being dropped into other contexts w/o visual queues - Audiobooks, podcasts, and TRPG's. Ideally, I think I would actually use Let's Plays primarily at a 2x speed, and just blast through the content, but I've only just started exploring sped-up-japanese-youtube. Thanks for the comment!

I find that novels put me to sleep too, I find the way to get over that in the middle of the day is to read until I get sleepy, crash out for 10 or 20 minutes, wake up and continue reading and I find I can read for another 2 or 3 hours without getting sleepy again. That might just be me though.

Do you plan on improving AudiobookTextSync?
@KanjiEater Жыл бұрын
Depends on what people want improved on it. It's already 99.5% accurate, and usable enough that other's can share subs (making it so you don't even have to use the program). There are also colab notebooks setup on TMW for it that was working last I checked.

Could you share a random deck for us. I know we should make our own cards, but it’d be cool if you just released a deck out into the ether.

sure, ping me on the discord & I'll post one. I've posted what one of my cards looks like there before, so my Note type is out there already

Would you happen to do all your immersing on a gaming pc with a gpu? Does that consume a lot of energy noise or heat? I found it hard to move away from my Mac mini as my daily office pc, but I do have a gaming pc with windows. Most DJT type people laugh/scoff at me when I tell them I use Apple 😢 I like how it’s quiet, looks nice, and synced with my phone.

For VN's yes. Games, while I haven't been focusing on them much is also a yes. I posted my PC build earlier this year, so I definitely try to use it as much as possible. no.pcpartpicker.com/b/6QGqqs Plus I've recently gotten into retro gaming w/ CRT's so space & form-factor are a non-issue for me. For sound, I hate Chaos Head, but there's no greater white noise to me than this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGmxn2CQjr2DaMU
