Later because of his stardom he was forced to do more commercial movies just for his fans.But even his commercial movies like baasha are the super one's the role which can never be portrayed by any other actor other than Rajnikanth who can make such roles powerful with his style and charisma. Though initially he was rejected for his skin colour by directors/ producers for hero role initially he played only villian or side actors roles,he changed the trend and proved a black skinned person can also rule the cinema world.

@@sudhakarD599 what I am.saying is Rajnikanth did only villian roles or side actor roles in the beginning of his career he did not start with main role I meant hero role. He was rejected because of his colour in early days for hero roles.Many directors or producers did not come up to show him as hero. Atlast finally after few years a director irrespective of whatever others say gave him the chance the main role in movie bhairavi. Vadivelu,goundamani Senthil all are comedy actors. I am telling rajini was rejected when recommended for hero role. Once he became famous only then the trend of the Tamil cinema changed and actors like vijayakanth who came later were accepted. But it all started with Rajnikanth.

Rajnikanth when come to my mind his 2 blockbuster movie is close to mu heart is Annaamalai 1992 and baasha 1995. 1st movie is a revenge movie and 2nd is gangster movie. Both movie has emotion action good songs and all the above these were the rajinis top stylish movies. Baasha is a gangster movie with limited action but it has the mass and power of the gangster. Mullum Malarum (1978) has the best performance of Rajinikanth. I would definitely recommend that if you want to explore his thespianitic skills. If you want to see his blockbuster star performance then the best bet would be Baasha(1995).
