Never been this early but seriously I think 300 dollars is overpriced considering that the raspberry pi on its own is around 30 or so and a keyboard like that kind would be around 10-15 maybe. Dunno how much the screen would cost but surely not 250 dollars. For that price you could get a whole laptop or desktop PC. Very interested in using the screen for a mini-itx build with a Pico PSU though.

Tom Brown a proper raspberry pie bundle on amazon costs around $100 so Kano charging $150 for all that stuff is honestly a pretty good deal. You surely would spend more getting this stuff separately from different companies.

if you buy this you're not trying to buy the hardware. so the price of it only covers a fraction of what you're considering when looking at this. it's like saying a textbook you need for a class is overpriced because the cost of cardboard and paper is only 10$ for 300 blank pages and ink is 10$ a cartridge. it's besides the point. and it's nowhere near Macbook territory.....

When he said the Pi was $150, the product lost me. You can go on amazon and pick up the Pi 3 for $50 CAD, which is like $2 USD (exaggeration). I get that it comes with a keyboard/mouse combo, but I'm like 99% sure that if you're into coding, you have a keyboard already. You can also make your own pixel screen with an Arduino for under $40 CAD. Pick up an HDMI cable, or an HDMI to DVI adapter if your monitor doesn't support and hook it all up to a bigger screen without having to buy a screen, unless you're a coder without a screen...

I really dont get products like these out side very young children. Its designed to be essentially a game. It might be easy and fun for some but it doesn't even teach you all the basics(looks like varibles are defined for you). You can do really fun stuff with visual basic or python with the many free places to learn. The basics of programming are easy enough anyway. Saying its a way to learn "coding" is pretty disengenous. A great idea, but not for $300, honestly any computer can be used to learn programming, you don't need a device like this to start. This device would be great for $180, maybe $200, but for $300 is a bit much for a RPi, a screen and some plastic casing, especially considering I can pick up a RPi, case, power adapter and a 4GB SD card for ~$50. Having said that, programming is fun, it's hard, but it is a huge amount of fun, and those eureka moments when you grasp a concept and turn into a working application is something to be experienced, and anything that can get more people learning it is great, but the price has to be right, and $300 is not it. If you really want to learn programming and want a programming language that is easy to learn, and aren't willing to shell out $300, then Java is a great place to start, especially because you can get a cheap android phone/tablet and use Google's SDK for free to make your own programs for a fraction of the cost of this device.

Not bad for starter projects for young ones but honestly it seems like you are so limited. If you want cheaper DIY projects a great source for finding cheap electronic components is ebay, just make sure to buy in bulk like 100pcs if you can because its so much cheaper. such a biased review... $300 is a great price? Raspberry pi, keyboard, mouse and cables are under $50, while you can get a raspberry pi touch screen for $70........
@Clairvoyant817 жыл бұрын
Sorry, but no. I just went to Amazon: A Pi 3 with power supply, case and SD card alone is around $70. Add a semi-decent keyboard with touch pad simlar to the one included in the kit here and you're at $95. I'd really like to see how you get that stuff for less than $50 when a Pi 3 alone is $30 and a decent keyboard is around $15 to $25. Yes, the "computer kit" for $150 is more expensive... but this Kano kit seems to include quite a bit of learning material, which should also be considered, because for a newcomer that can make the difference between enjoying the learning process or ditching it after a few days of trying. So, in the end, I don't think these kits are targeting people who already know what they need and know that to do with this stuff, and they're charging a bit extra for the convenience. Same basically goes for the screen kit. A screen with a resolution of 1280x800 is around $90 without a case. If you want the complete thing including a decent case you're looking at around $110.

Short answer : no. Long answer : if you haven't been able to learn to code using mainstream languages, this won't be of any help. Maybe you'll do things that you will find nice, but it this is very far from "real" coding. Programming, or maybe should I say algorithmics, isn't for everyone, and that's okay really.

Absolutely NO. First of all, You need to understand the esensial of languages. I mean the structures, rules, special terms & conditions etc. It's like you learn how to speak. But not to humans tho, in this case to the machines.
@tjeulink7 жыл бұрын
learning how to code is basically learning how to speak a new language (thats why they are called languages lol). In a sense learning to use a completely different GUI logic and structure is also learning a language, you learn how to tell the machine what you want to do, just with more layers of abstraction than coding is. What is the thing that hindered you from learning it before? frustrations? no motivation? dunno where you're from but here we have people called "study guidance councilor" who help with this kind of stuff to see if a study would fit you or not. It really depends on what hindered you before to what the solution is, there is no one size fits all for learning.

Start with whatever language you like. O-O concepts aren't hard to grasp at all, they're simple as anything. Java and C# are perfectly fine, in this case. C++ is also fine, though pointers and memory management is definitely something that would fuck a beginner up. Though, as I mentioned, not impossible. For reference, I started C++ as my first ever programming language years ago. Of course I struggled, but it made every other language I picked up a literal piece of piss - a walk in the park.

An introduction to some basic "programming", it teaches some fundimentals but doesnt really allow you to stray much further from there within the confins of the pack you buy. Apart from looking slightly better finished than what you can already get for less money it adds nothing more to the market. Its only real plus point is they paid you to advertise it.
