I feel that. This is my song, my anthem for the same reason. I have reconciled my rock and roll life with Christ. He doesn't judge. Rock out, uplift others you come in contact with, don't let the darkness overcome but shed light upon it.

You got the message of the song. As you strive out into this world, carry-on my son as in biblical sense. Once your work is done, then you may rest. I may be wrong, but I was very young when this came out. This is how I interpret it as.

That's what I get from it. This song has been my anthem. It really speaks to my heart. Like God is saying, it's OK to rock out, just do the right things and don't listen to the nay sayers. He loves us all and he loves expressions of art and music and just because at church we're all reverent and holy, doesn't mean Jesus doesn't like to rock out sometimes too. He created everything and inspired many to write killer rock and roll. Some isn't good but some is great. Like Led Zeppelin. Listen to their lyrics. They got a bad rap from stupid Christian fundamentalists but I think Robert Plant is praising Jesus in many of his songs. Led Zeppelin is awesome and I know Jesus digs on some Zeppelin

Dust In the Wind is another of their great tunes. I heard this song the most during high school in the 90s. I was a band nerd and we played it at the football games. This song was also a mainstay in the show Supernatural.

I really dig how you respond naturally to the "change-ups" in music; as I learn about music theory and music history I realize that key changes and time signature changes are a big part of what makes music interesting for first-time AND repeat listeners, and the complexity of popular music really ramped up from the mid-60s to the early-80s; listening to music year on year in that time must've been like riding a rocket of musical innovation!

The guy who wrote this song thought of it and wrote it in a single night. His band mates say that that was common with him. I watched a mini documentary on this song. They said that they had finished recording their album and the drummer was disassembling his drum set when the guy said, 'Hey eh, I got another song.' The drummer went on to say that when they played back the recording after the record was done, they just kind of looked at each other in aww. They knew they'd done something special that would change their lives. It did too, this song basically launched them into the big time.

Kansas is my second favorite band, right under The Beatles. Steve Walsh is quite possibly my favorite singer. Their lineups changed over the years, but I get to see them in concert later this year and I cannot wait!!! They're my favorite progressive rock/American band. I got into them last year during quarantine and they really lifted up my mood.

As I've stated previously, I am a veteran of attending 1008 concerts since 1973. Seen just about every band and artist in every genre of music. The Kansas, "Left Overture" tour concert, New Years Eve 1976/1977 at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby Pa. is STILL in my top 5 concerts of all-time. You can not go wrong listening too their entire library of music.

It sometimes changes due too memory and how I feel at a particular moment but usually I rate them sort of like this.... I'll give you 7 of them, however, that Kansas show is always in my top 5. #1. Pink Floyd 1977 "In the Flesh" tour. Spectrum, Philadelphia, promoting the "Animals" album. No concerts I have ever attended have come close. From the opening song, "Sheep", till the encores, just pure perfection. Pristine, clean, perfect sound from the Quadraphonic sound system, inctedible lighting, inflatable huge pig and the movie synched too the music makes it #1 for me. How can it not be when they played 3/4 of Dark Side of the Moon, 3/4 of Wish You Were Here and ALL of Animals. 2. How about this, 21 days before that Pink Floyd show, Led Zeppelin, Madison Square Garden. 1977 North America tour. I've seen and heard better "sounding" bands in my time, but the energy, the power, the mystical vibe and the crowd accounted for a MUST spot in my top 5. Strange, but after all these years that have passed, I really don't remember these 2 shows being so close to each other. But they were. 3. Yes, "Relayer" tour. 1974 Madison Square Garden. I have seen this great live band 14 times. The most of any band. The reason? Maybe the most talented musicians I have ever seen and heard live. They were always "A+" live. This tour was perfection in sight, lighting, staging and sound. 4. Supertramp, 1979s "Breakfast in America" tour. Spectrum, Philadelphia. Not one of my top 10 bands but I am still in shock how great they "sounded" live. It was almost like listening too them in your living room with a CD on. 5. I knew before heading into the Spectrum that this was going too be a tremendous concert. Rush, "2112" tour in 1976. It was everything people have ever read about. 6. Electric Light Orchestra 1978 "Out of the Blue" tour. Spectrum, Philly. Although they were accused of using "taped" parts of the music, it still deserves a spot on my favorites list. The UFO stage was coolest staging I have ever seen. It was a frigging gigantic UFO just sitting there. It opened up revealing the band inside with the top half of it holding the lighting and laser rigs. Waaaay ahead of its time. 7. Just because of the number of bands and all the talent during the entire day, 1985s "Live Aid" at JFK Stadium Philadelphia. Way too many bands too list. The "Grateful Dead" HAS too be included simply because of the full blown "atmosphere" that came with the entire package throughout their tours of the 70's. Talk about a "trip", WOW is all I'm going too say.

@@YoCraps-og4kt ...Man thanks for taking the time to do that...I really enjoyed reading it...I love all those bands but never saw any of them except Kansas with Boston and Grand Funk about 10 years ago...they all were still pretty tight then...but my best memories of shows were in the late 70's when I was a teenager and into the early Eighty's...Eagles Hotel California tour...Queen...Freddie and the boys are amazing...Triumph...I remember saying...Man, 3 guys can sure make a lot of noise...haha but in a good way...saw Styx a few times in their hey day...put on an amazing show even to this day...Chicago...blow your mind....sorry I could go on...as you could way longer than me. Most of those shows were at the Capital center in Maryland...witch no longer exists...Thanks again for sharing...really enjoyed it.

@@jazzyboy7784 I somehow missed your "Cap Center" referance Jazzyboy. Been to Landover Maryland a few times for shows and Flyers-Caps hockey games. For a bigger arena, I always thought it sounded pretty good in there for concerts. Saw many shows in there. I think the 1977 Jethro Tull show can still be found on You Tube. I was in 5th row but didn't see myself in those videos. Fleetwood Mac, Yes, Molly Hatchet, The Outlaws, Neil Diamond, Paul McCartney and Wings and K.C. and the Sunshine Band. (Yeah, an old girlfriend dragged me too a Neil Diamond and a KC and the Sunshine concert there. Both were actually outstanding in concert. I've been a Neil Diamond fan ever since.)

To me this song is about venturing into psychedelics and going so far you achiever ego death. Td you come back down and you are having a difficult time adjusting to reality/identifying with your ego again. You are masquerading bing your self but you know these is a deeper you that you been shown and tapped into. ““Once I rose above the noise and confusion, Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion,Ali was soaring ever higher, But I flew too high.” But eventually, you learn to embrace your ego because that heaven will be waiting for you when this is all over, and we were here on earth to experience love, joy, happiness, companionship. Etc so the message is basically bringing you back down to earth after and intense psychedelic trip. Learning to connect with yourself and enjoy life again” “Mmasquerading as a man with a reason, My charade is the event of the season And if I claim to be a wise man, well, It surely means that I don't know.” Then you come back down and you are having a difficult time adjusting to reality/identifying with your ego again. But eventually, you learn to embrace you ego because that heaven will be waiting for you when this is all over, and we were here on earth to experience love, joy, happiness, companionship. Kansas is my favorite band.. I've never heard anybody give this song a bad reaction.. your reaction was great.. this song almost didn't make it on the album ..it was actually written the night before the album was going to be put together.. guitarist Kerry Livgren came in and said what do you think of this.. and it ended up being the first track on the album.. the group had two lead singers though ..Steve Walsh and Robbie steinhart who also played violin.. both their vocals blend so perfect together.. definitely check out some of the other songs people mentioned.. and you can add closet Chronicles and Sparks of the tempest to that..👍

Kansas is a great band. An interesting bit of trivia about Steve Walsh, the lead singer. He joined the band to be the keyboards player, they already had a lead singer, but they where pleasantly shocked when they heard him sing and the rest is history. Other Kansas songs I recommend: "The Wall", "Song for America", "Dust in the Wind", and "Icarus - Borne on Wings of Steel".
