I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.

I feel your pain mate, as a fellow retiree, I’d suggest you look into passive index fund investing and learn some more. For me, I had my share of ups and downs when I first started looking for a consistent passive income so I hired an expert advisor for aid, and following her advice, I poured $30k in value stocks and digital assets, Up to 200k so far and pretty sure I'm ready for whatever comes.

@@PlatinumHustle the pay is considerably high out here for the cost of living. Homes are affordable, as are utilities. We love the seasons, the people, there's plenty to do and see, and if you miss home it's a 3 hour non stop flight. Both of my kids were born here, and there's so much to do with toddlers. Plus size, there's virtually no traffic and it's never crowded anywhere.

I moved to KCMO in 1972. That was another period of rapid development. MCI opened for commercial flights. Arrowhead Stadium had just opened. Royals Stadium opened a few months later. Crown Center had recently opened. A large section of I-435 opened. Of course, KC was in the midst of overbuilding it's massive, now defunct malls. I moved from KCMO in 1978. Definitely enjoyed the fact that you can be in a nice suburban neighborhood or country side in a matter of minutes What i did notice is you can definitely tell when your in the ghetto lol. Being from Cali we are also tired of the HCOL and the fact that we will be renters for the rest of our lives due to the high cost of homes. Also an ATT tech here! 200-300k home is a dream price! Wouldn't see anything below 350k if i commuted like 2+ hours away or if it needed a whole bunch of repairs! Where would these jobs be listed on? Indeed? The county's site? Also just curious how much was the cost to move things like furniture/cars to KC from Cali? Very informative video!

I actually think KC has a pretty good size Asian community and is continuously growing. Of course it's not as big as other major US cities, but I wouldn't consider it small. KC is not a small po-dunk town by any means. My best friend of 17 yrs is Hmong. And KC is known to be divided a bit into different Asian districts. There is a decent sized Korean and Chinese community with pretty great (more authentic restaurants) around the Overland Park area, Vietnamese & Thai community in downtown westbottoms area, & etc. You just have to know where to go and broaden your friend circle. Your comment about 38* Winter run was pretty on point. My daughter and I generally walk to and from her school each day with the 30* rule. The rule being if it’s below 30* we’re more likely to drive (something we try avoiding). Even then, there was a morning this year that even at 22* we walked to play in the snow while walking. It can be surprisingly warm walking if you’re playing along the way - may even break out a sweat. ** I’ll add a note that she was only driven to school twice this winter and picked up once.

LOL, nothing like the actual Midwest, KC shuts down for "dustings" of snow and is a just like the backward South in that regard. If you want a great schools system and crappy colleges, move to the Overland Park/Olathe Kansas area. Neither Kansas or Missouri have academically admired colleges. If you can afford it, your kids will all go out of state to college and never move back. The cost of living is higher than you think and most people are underpaid relative to cost of living. Everything is very “old fashioned” here and women are NOT respected at work or in the community. If you want social connections as a women, you’d better be married. Bleh to activities. Kansas City never gets any K or JPop acts and some musical acts still ignore KC, no more Alamo Drafthouse(best model for movie theaters in the US imo, a nice blend of Arthouse and blockbuster selections) since moronic Venture Capitalists bought it and no Asian style Karaoke rooms. Frankly if you can work a remote job I would tell people to move over and rent in Japan for a while, such a better place to live for the cost than the US including Kansas City. @@LivingInKansasCity-JaylennWong Yeah, I worked for aetna and they were mulling a place to move HQ. Someone brought up STL and I pushed so very hard away because of the crime. I've never been, so welcome being away from the broad generalization. I'd have pushed for KC if had known it was all that. THat said, Pittsburgh is amazing and it would be interesting to see if it were better than here. I've lived in NYC, SFO, Boston, Baltimore and a couple smaller towns and cities. If I were to stay in North America, Pittsburgh still would be my fave.

Pros of KC: cheap COL, All 4 Seasons, Great BBQ, good sports culture, great suburbs. Easy traffic. Growing entertainment areas. Lots of church options if you’re Christian. Decent economy. Cons of KC: No ocean. No mountains. Extreme Seasons. High Violent Crime Rate. Occasional bad natural disasters like Blizzards & Tornadoes. Lack of diversity for restaurants & grocery stores. Horrible public transit. If you’re not religious out if you’re Buddhist, Muslim, Jewish, Agnostic etc…good luck finding your community. The 2 states 1 city thing can be annoying…. Personally, I get why people like it. It’s not for me, because I love mountains & water & moderate weather …but I’m willing to pay more for a higher quality of life. If you’re not into hiking mountains or water activities & you can handle hot humid summers and cold winters then give it a shot. Just visit 1st before you buy. Side note: 2008: LA,SF,& Seattle avoided the recession…not sure if KC favored well lol. And soccer city KC wasn’t picked as a World Cup city 😂.

Great list! I may be mistaken, but I believe that LA was hit pretty hard during the 2008 recession...Seattle, I'm not so sure. We WERE picked as a World Cup Host City in 2026!

DO NOT MOVE TO KANSAS CITY MISSOURI (ACTUAL CITY). Maybe suburbs are different on the Kansas side (vs Missouri side). The county that the actual city is in, Jackson county Missouri, is awful. The politicians have wrecked it. Property taxes are sky rocketing and mismanaged. The city itself is also run poorly run. And the small business environment is in severe decline.

I can see what you mean if you want to avoid the crime. However, if you live in different parts of Kansas City, Missouri (like Clay County, or Platte County), it is much different, don't you think?

I have homes in California, NYC and Kansas City. Kansas City is one of the worst places to live for a variety of reasons. The most glaring issue is lack of culture. There is very little. You're in a mostly white and vanilla city, in the bible belt where, they hate change. The arts reflect this, the food, and entertainment reflect this as well. You are also very limited in what there is to do. You have the Plaza, 95th for the mall and retail, sports, Westport, Barry road, again for movies and retail, The market area near downtown, The Nelson-Atkins museum, I mean, there isn't much. Furthermore, you are literally 1,000+ miles from any major body of water. Kansas City is also not a market that recording artist want to come. Nearly all the major artists skip the Kansas City market. Why? It's small and not as profitable. I've lived all over the US, and I travel 4 months out of the year. I promise you, Kansas City is not anywhere I would solely want to live. I'm in Kansas City for about 2 weeks every 3 months or so because of a business I own in the area. In the past, I've lived in Kansas City months at a time, and, really, disliked having to do so. If you're not a very worldly person, small-minded, are not a dreamer and have no desire to see the world, Kansas City is going to be fine for you. Most who live here in Kansas City do not know any better. They are content to live and die in this small city.

Yeah, I can see your perspective! Thanks for commenting! Coming from Los Angeles, and living overseas, I realize that I don't have the perspective of living in every city, and that you have credible reasons for not considering Kansas City as an artist. I do think that the majority of people who would agree with me are in my shoes - young family, value the pace of life and ease that Kansas City provides. I would not imagine that a burgeoning artist would like it here for the reasons that you provided. Thanks again for commenting, and if you're in Kansas City soon, I would love to treat you to a meal or a coffee. Have a good one!
