Great video! Quick question I thought kc was going to have a new downtown project. The one on 5th St. near the old EPA building are with shops and housing. Did this project fall through?
@brianstrief941521 күн бұрын
Is the KC metropolitan area capable of supporting all these new entertainment districts? Power & Light have never met their income projections and the City of KCMO is on the hook for $67 plus million dollars. Legends area has received tax abatement & incentives that have never paid out all the while increasing property tax rates on Wyandotte county residents. Just because a developer says it will bring millions of dollars to the city doesn’t make it automatically true. Westport and the plaza are currently failing due to lack of customers and security concerns.
@crebbsjdАй бұрын
I live here and work here. It's already expensive. All of these projects are definitely needed. We can't afford to go out to any of these places. The roads are all trash with potholes, cracks, and bumps that will literally pop your tires and / or make you crash your car. Tons of work needs to go into fixing the on and off ramps, bridges, and making the drive through the city way better. It is a very dangerous place to drive around, and lots of road work is needed all over the greater KCK and KCMO area. I love to see KC grow. We have to be able to afford the prices. The rent is to high. Houses are to expensive. Taxes are to high. You can't just keep building super expensive projects and expect everyone to just keep paying higher and higher prices.

My property tax has gone up 125% thanks to these redevelopments. I blame much of this on our glad handed mayor Quentin Lucas who loves every redevelopment project. Frankly, I don’t understand how some people are going to be able to afford to live in their own homes. This especially applies to the elderly, the poor, and the disabled, who all live on very small amounts of money. Not only are they likely to be forced out of their homes, which are likely in bad areas, they will also be replaced by a new group who will get a lot more police protection.

All this development is great, yet eastern Wyandotte County residents have little to look forward to beyond higher property taxes, decreasing services, and crumbling infrastructure. I own a small bungalow-styled home in the area of 18th St. and I-70. I bought the property about 10 years ago as an affordable fixer upper. The first year of ownership the property taxes were less than $600 annually. Insurance was about the same. The taxes this past year were more than doubled, as has the cost of insuring. The value has risen considerably despite the neighborhood's physical decline. Most of the single-family homes are rental properties owned by what amounts modern-day slum lords who only take from the neighborhood while investing nothing in the structures. The city/county has taken the same tact. Streets surfaces suck. The electrical grid is literally falling apart, and the same holds true for water, sewer, and gas lines. And forget about getting a response from police. A couple of years ago there was a shootout two houses from the property I own and occupy. It took the KCKPD over 45 minutes to respond with one solitary officer who did nothing more than photograph the empty shell casings littering the street. That one cop was on-scene for less than 10 minutes. I hope the development of western Wyandotte County has some benefits for the eastern end of the county and its residents, but I ain't holding my breath. Thus far the opposite has proven true.

I used to live but still own a couple of rental houses in the Northeast Quindaro area. The UG have no plans in the near future to do any improvements to those areas. Only during election time, they make false promises for improvement like the Healthy Campus and groceries stores and community center that all got scrapped after the elections. It's a shame because the people of those areas deserve better. Overpriced taxes with all the tax benefits going to western Wyandotte county residents. It's a ton of corruption in UG of WYCO, a lot of greasing palms and padding pockets from the police, fire department and elected officials.

All of these investments attract higher net worth people, likely not the ones committing crime, which would lower the “crime rate”. KC’s roots are built on the Mafia/pendergast machine and Irish mob boom that are romanticized today. Those groups have moved on (besides the Colombos and consentinos) and left their territories to the minorities. But there’s legislation in place now that prevents any criminalized entity to take the power the aforementioned groups did. I love these projects and they will benefit KC! However prices may hike due to these and we will most likely see more east and west coasters selling their shacks to buy mansions here! Also if you pay attention these projects tend to occur in non affluent places as the rich do not want to pay taxes for these. Overall it will be a benefit to kc and its residents and any tourists visiting to come watch the greatest football team!

Big question - when are the Chiefs moving to KCK?

They hired a “third party” to explore their options. I personally think they’re staying out at Arriwhead.

We don’t need urban expansion. Build up, not out.

I'm kinda digging the upgrades / additions / attractions for the old railroad bridge. Love the concept!
