KC 'water' bill is a combined package including water. Included is at least water, sewer, and trash. I live in a different city where my water bill is only $30 on average. However, if I add my trash service and sewer bills, it's around $100. Not quite the average you mentioned, but there's only two of us in a small house and we have HE appliances. Our sewer cost is based on water usage, so if we use more water, we pay more for both water and sewer.

We moved from Hawaii to KCMO in 2021 and there are soooo many ways we love it here way more than back home and I agree with all the positives in the video. Some negatives we didn’t expect tho are…. -All the trash on the highways/freeways (not just roadkill) -Malls here suck. Lots of awesome small biz places so maybe that’s why the malls are not so great. -Need more Asian restaurants! Not just fusions! There are a few good ones BUT there are not enough options. We noticed the good Korean bbq and Japanese sushi or ramen places here are pretty pricey but they can do that because there isn’t too much competition for them here.

Wow! KC from Hawaii! What island did you move from? I imaging the trash is definitely worse. Although, I noticed it was even an issue when we visited Oahu a few years ago. Yeah, with the exception of Oak Park I would say that KC malls are subpar at best. What’s your favorite Asian restaurant in KC?? Thanks for the comment!

I lived in Hawaii for a couple years. Love the islands. wouldn't live there though. Prices are high, overpopulation is already a problem. Became allergic to sea food while there. KC is my home town. Welcome, sorry we don't have much Asian food places. The better option is to cook it yourself anyway ;)

Hi Kyle! Thanks for some great info about KCK and KCMO. I'm in KC about two times every year in line of my work. And now we are in discussions of moving over to KC from Gothenburg, Sweden. My work is in Olathe and most of my friends over at Independence, Grain Valley and Blue Springs. In which area should I start looking for an apartment? My sixteen year old daughter is also moving over with me so any good suggestions for schools?

I feel like I’m in a very similar situation that you were in. I spent the majority of my life in Kansas City. I lived in Wyandotte County but went to a private school in Overland Park. I graduated high school in 2019 and did one year of community college at JCCC. I joined the U.S. Army in 2020 and will be finishing my enlistment in about a year and a half. My family wants me to move back but I had thought I convinced myself I wanted to move to a new city and get a fresh start After getting to see the new airport and all the change and growth it has gone through im considering moving back. Ultimately I want to do professional sports photography and I’m starting to realize that I don’t have to necessarily move away to be part of that career field Also my initials (EMS) are on your license plate so I think that might be a sign 😆😆

I lived in Colorado for 23 years. I was born here, in Kansas City, Missouri. I can't really tell you about Kansas, but it's close enough that it should be about the same. Winter storms in KC are far fewer and further between than in Denver metro. We tend to get wetter snows. We don't have famous lifelong discussed blizzards, like the Denver blizzard of '83 or the several major blizzards since then. We usually just get a light dusting. Occasionally, once or twice a year, we'll have accumulation that is more than an inch or two. The spring time is when our foul weather begins. It rains nearly daily. And there are storms that can last for 3 or more days here. We get a lot of wind, which knocks down a lot of trees. Summer begins with the humidity. It's starting to get pretty humid now, mid-May. But this is an uncommon year. It usually starts in early May. However, it is very tolerable until the end of June. July and August are doggy(dog days of summer). September, it's 101 degrees on one day, and 40 the next. All-in-all, the weather is not bad in comparison to Colorado. We don't have dry heat, and we don't have a lot of snows. The ground is fertile and not dusty. We have a lot of bodies of water. We also have abundant wild-life. Namely, insects. Colorado has far worse mosquitoes than KC, but we have a lot more creepy-crawly's. A lot. We also have firefly's(lightening bugs). Which is pretty cool. And cicada's. They are loud, but you don't notice it. It's almost a beautiful sound when you do pay attention to it.

I currently live in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN metro, and Minnesota is my native home. However, things are becoming much more liberal, to the point of being a nightmare. I am conservative, but liberal in many ways too. I have always known Minnesota to be "Minnesota Nice," which is actually passive/aggressive. I have family and friends who live in Missouri, and love it. I admire the sense of directness and genuine nature of Missouri. I have been to Kansas City before, and I could devour that barbecue. You also have Caribou Coffee on both sides of the border. Awesome Coffee! I am 52 retired military, never married, college educated, and I have a career with FedEx. I wouldn't recommend it at all, try a different area of Minnesota like Rochester or Duluth. The Upper Midwest is far better in most quality of life measures than LOUSY Missouri and Kansas. Both are going backward over time with a huge brain drain and the steady march much further to the right politically than you would probably be comfortable with, that's for sure.

Those people are actually going socialist, and I can't deal with the sense of entitlement gained from empowerment from them. I am conservative, but liberal in many ways. Just not outwardly direct about it. I admire the sense of directness and genuineness from Missouri people. I am tired of the passive/aggressive "Minnesota Nice" disingeuous character of Minnesota. I love Minnesota as my native home, but with how progressive it's becoming, it is not enjoyable living here. I will wait to see what the election brings and decide later.

@@howardg2435 Missouri ranks far worse than Minnesota in many categories, regardless of how you look at many things through a political lens. Missouri is a low wage wasteland, filled with many very very poor towns that have next to no infrastructure investment at all along with very bad drug abuse and dysfunction. Missouri also has very poor educational attainment outside of a few small wealthy suburban areas. I wouldn't prefer to live in Minneapolis itself either, but if moving to Missouri you have to expect that general expectations there are much lower, to go along with the low taxes/low wages model.

@@KS5040 Sorry I left you a couple days, but this is sad to read. It's also a sad reality for so much of the country. I realize I would stay in the Twin Cities, but the suburbs here. St. Paul is a better, safer place than Minneapolis for sure. I lived in St. Cloud, Minnesota, and it reminds me of much of what the tight knit social climate is in Missouri. Basically, unless you grew up there, you are an outcast that will not fit in. This man even mention a poor dating scene in Kansas City, and I could see a reflection of that statewide in Missouri. Much of the infrastructure left Missouri too, like the railroad companies. Two examples were Missouri Pacific and the Missouri Kansas and Texas, which were bought by Union Pacific. That is a hard blow financially to any area. I see the biggest thing driving people away really is the lack of educated people, and the fact that they have extreme socio/political views they see as traditional. That is on top of the drugs, crime, and violence. I see why places like Missouri are fly over states. that is very sad to see, and why it would be considered a low wage nightmare. I work for FedEx, and am able to keep my current wage rate, but I could see it going lower in Missouri. I hope they can fix things to attract people, but the education system has to be better funded somehow. That will take work, but Missouri needs to work on figuring that out. West Virginia is pretty much a dead state with nothing at all left. I hope Missouri does not go down the same path.

Kansas City is for delusional homers that HATE any type of change at all. HORRIBLE place for single people compared to 95% of the rest of the country. High sales taxes, earnings tax if you work in Kansas City, MO, high property taxes if you live in most of Johnson County due to the crazy high assessed property values. HORRIBLE weather most of the year, Bible Belt mentality as soon as you get out of the city in any direction. Not a good place for career growth as most people that are highly educated leave for better opportunities in more dynamic and faster growing metro areas. A good place to live if you want a mundane boring existence with lower housing costs, but that's where most of the advantages quickly end.
