These old recordings are great to listen to! Wish I was there for many of these shows! The founding 6 members (Kerry Livgren, Steve Walsh, Dave Hope, Robby Steinhardt, Phil Ehart, Richard Williams) were genius musicians! Thankfully, along with founding members Richard Williams and Phil Ehart, we still have long time band members David Ragsdale & Billy Greer along with new band members David Manion and Ronnie Platt to keep the spirit of Kansas alive and well!

I would have given almost anything to have been able to see them on this tour. POKR was my first Kansas album, and immediately I was blown away by the complexity of their music and depth of their lyrics, and when I bought Leftoverture the song Miracles Out Of Nowhere immediately became my favorite song from that album. I had the pleasure of seeing them for the first time on their Audio-Visions tour, but still wish I could have seen the POKR tour when they were doing their shows BIG, with plenty of spotlight moments for various members of the band, not the least of which was that amazing organ solo towards the end of the instrumental break in Miracles. As great as it is to hear, I would have loved to have seen Steve play it. For me, there is no very few joys greater than watching very accomplished musicians perform at their craft.

I definitely agree. Ragsdale is a very talented player, but the electric violin bugs me. The acoustic sound has so much more substance to it. Unfortunately, there weren't always great pickups or other methods of amplification for violins, so Robby frequently got stuck playing an acoustic violin that had a very rough electric tone to it, and there wasn't a whole lot that he could do about it. The violin sound on this recording, however, is very nice, along with everything else.

Saw them a couple weeks after this in Denver, January 15, 1978. It was the same day that Dallas defeated the Broncos in Super Bowl XII. Watched the game in a bar across the street from McNichols arena before the concert (McNichols had much better acoustics than Pepsi/Ball or whatever they call it now). Cheap Trick was the leadoff band and they SUCKED compared to Kansas. All great musicians, but I thought that Robbie and Phil were the standouts that night. Always loved Dave Hope's unique bass sound. Kind of Chris Squireish. :)
