Adrenaline rush = Kansas! This WAS the speed they played it at this concert. NOBODY IN THE WORLD could sing like steve has in this concert: Vocal range was incerdible; like two people singing in one person. Steve could change intensity of his voice and really pierce those high's and also sing baritone, if he wanted. His voice was an Orchestra ALL IT'S OWN!

Often Voices, even tho good, are just an instrument to deliver a meaning, or a raw image of an emotion, which can be good in the pureness of the deliverence. But just at the end of this live recording, there is so much harmony in Steves Voice, it's just like his voice is the main instrument at this time, just sort of a lead violin in an orchestra. There's so much character in his voice. They visited Switzerland two times with Steve as the Vocalist, and I'm glad I've been at both of them. I even got a Picture with him after Show. I'd love to rent a timemachine to the 70s an attend an concert with my young parents at this time ^^

@winstonbeech3418 Жыл бұрын
Yeah they are kinda burning rubber here. Amazing how much the studio sound is preserved and balanced even when accelerating the tempo. This is probably my favorite Kansas song. I have been trying to learn the whole thing on my Hammond for years. I can play the intro, verse and that first bridge all on the organ, have never learned the rest of it. And not even at the studio tempo. This whole album with its metaphysical, mythological, and biographical slant (Howard Hughes and Albert Einstein no less) was so different from the sex/drugs songs of the day, yet it's still solidly seventies. Nobody plays this song on the radio anymore. The only Kansas you hear - Carry On Another 40 Years Wayward Son and Isn't This One Dust In The Wind By Now. So much good stuff buried in the albums. Especially this one. And what a cover image!

I was lucky enough to see this very your, this video brings it all back... I saw them three times... I saw the LEFTOVERTURE tour, the POINT OF KNOW RETURN tour, and the MONOLITH your. Though I love the two albums that the newest version of KANSAS has made, seeing them try to do justice to the original songs is a whole other thing. New vocalist Ronnie Platt doesn't have the vocal range to sing those classic KANSAS songs... His voice sounds nothing like Steve Walsh... Just seeing them walk on stage without Steve Walsh and Robbie Steinhart... that's not KANSAS. They're really more of a KANSAS tribute band, which is alright especially for the younger audiences who never got a chance to see the original KANSAS lineup, but make no mistake, they're not KANSAS!!! I love their two new albums: The Prelude Implicit, and The Absence of Presence, but I really had to wrap my head around the fact that they make great albums, they're just not great KANSAS albums. For me, personally, I don't want to go to a new KANSAS concert because, without Steve Walsh singing and playing that Hammond B3 organ and the congas as well, they're not KANSAS. Don't get me wrong, drummer Phil Ehart owns the name "KANSAS", so legally he has the right to use anyone he wants to form a band, and then call that band KANSAS, but just because a band is using the name, doesn't make them become that original band. Now days they don't even write their own lyrics most of the time. They hire someone to write lyrics, and then the band takes those lyrics and tries to make them more KANSAS-like... Sorry folks, great band, just not KANSAS! If you love these guys, it's worth buying their two new albums (mentioned above)... No musicians tour due to covid-19 and album sales have plummeted since KZbin, so go to whatever website you choose (I use Amazon), and support the bands you love by buying their albums!!! For all KANSAS fans that want to hear more, there is a KANSAS sound-alike band called PINNACLE POINT and their two albums sound a lot more like original KANSAS than NU-KANSAS does! Their debut album is called "Winds Of Change", and their newest album is called "Symphony of Mind"
@winstonbeech3418 Жыл бұрын
There's a live version of Dust In The Wind out there. Only heard it once on the radio, but it's so rushed it sounded like they were trying to beat Chico Marx to the chorus. It really takes a lot of practice and discipline to maintain tempo in a live performance. I've seen Steely Dan four times - 2009, 2011, 2014, and 2016 - and their rockinest song Boddisattva - they always play it faster than the album and hold it together really well. My friends with their pretty damn good cover band did it too, and also sped it up and held it together. I shot a fair amount of iphone video of those guys before they broke up - as all bands must. When I got my Hammond, 12 years ago now, Point of Know Return is the first song I tried to play - got a chart and figured out how to play the chords and melody at the same time. 12 Years later I still can't play the whole song though.......... lot of diversions along the way.
