My god!!!! I just heard this version for the first time and my jaw dropped. Steve Walsh’s singing was flawless. Every note was perfection. His phrasing of words, his vocal control, his voice, there is absolutely nobody who compares to Steve in his prime.

This man is twenty five years old as he sings this. This man had a voice that made everyone that heard him fall in love with his sound . I have never heard anyone like him since .Now that Steve Walsh is older his voice may have changed just like all singers do with time . I love his sound as much today as I did the first time I heard him. The way he performs amazes me ! I will always love the sound of his voice and his music.! God bless you Steve Walsh and your family ! 🎹🎤🎶💞😁

This is WAY better than the album version. It cracks me up when I hear someone say "That show was great , they sounded exactly like the record!" That's boring to me. They should've saved a bunch of money and stayed home and listened to the record. I want something different when I go to a show. Said this improv junkie!

This wasn't just great music, it stamped that era with introspective deep meaning and created a soul searching atmosphere that was undeniable and earth shattering for all who listened with ears to hear. In many ways their music was the soul of that era, songs like this for sure. Many of us were lost deep in the weeds, music like this helped tether us back to earth, giving hope to all.

Seeing Kansas many times, but my favorite concert was on July 9 1978 at Merriweather Post Pavilion, a Sunday night. The energy was incredible and to finish the night, they played one of the greatest Prog rock songs ever-Magnum Opus! At 22 years of age, a guitarist and music lover they just blow my mind!! This was a night to remember, seeing the one of the greatest Bands ever! Amazing time to live in the 70's

Steve Walsh was in a league by himself..in his prime, he could sing do handstands and paly the keyboards all at once. I NEVER missed a concert if it was within a 150 miles. In my day I could even sing along, but my prime has passed too !!! LOL

Yes but I have two words for you: Audio Visions So underrated. When it came out I used to listen to it from start to finish every night while doing homework. Thank God for Columbia House. Their cassettes lasted less but I later got all that stuff on CD. Now it’s on the internet for all to enjoy free. I had and enjoyed all their albums back then. Saw the original lineup for that Audio-Visions tour.

I saw Kansas twice in the mid 70's....the most impressive live act I've ever seen/heard...in reference to Steve Walsh in particular,...first & foremost the Voice: best tone, power, control, vibrato, pitch, breath control & overall technique...musical abilities: (multi- instrumentalist) organ, piano, percussion: notably, bongos & vibraphone. Walsh was one of the very few singers that absolutely laid it all on the line in a live performance!!...many times changing the original melody & opting for a higher more technically challenging melodic line!!!...I would be remiss if I didn't mention his polyrhymic abilities on keyboard...if you haven't seen Miracles out of nowhere live, do so & pay particular attention to the bass & treble clef lines that Walsh is performing simultaneously during the Fugue portion of the song!!....absolutely incredible!!!...he does the same polyrhymic technique on The Spider!!!....truly the most talented Singer/Musician/Frontman I have ever witnessed!!! 0:57

It's amazing that his touring voice is as good as his studio voice. So many vocalists, even great ones like Mercury and Plant, could not hit the high notes with a tired tour voice, and reduced their vocal parts often to low harmonies in those situations. Walsh nails them, and even rises above the studio version. Wow!

Chris Thompson and Jamison are good singers, but Walsh was the voice of Kansas just like Steve Perry was the voice of Journey (even though Gregg Rolie can be likened to Steinhardt), Lou Gramm was the voice of Foreigner, and Freddie Mercury was the voice of Queen.

Steve Walsh is an original. There are great keyboard players out there. They are great singers out there. They are great performers out there. He’s all of those and more. I love the way he sings in his prime where he can sing the melody, but also go above the melody in certain spots just because he can.

The process of covering this song has helped me to appreciate its many intricacies, and many unique live versions, for that matter! I wonder how many performances of this you've listened to, for this to be the favorite out of them? The vocals are impeccable; Walsh's voice truly soars on the high notes. It's fascinating to hear a version in '76, the band relatively fresh out of the studio sessions for Leftoverture. Overall, a wonderful recording - tacksåmycket!
