Thank you for this video! As a resident, I certainly see the difference from 2014 until now. Crime is even in the burbs from KCMO. All of these police depts that surround KCMO should be in contact on battling the crime that is going on. South KC should certainly be on the radar because there has been some crazy mess happening. That darn Ruskin Heights area is off the chain and it's spreading over to Grandview area. You can't just focus on one area of KCMO, but there should be certain officers assigned to South KC. I hardly see officers in South KC. From State Line back over to 71 Hwy and Blue Ridge area.

I moved up by the airport from Ruskin Heights 15 months ago because of how wild it was getting. Night and day difference in the quality of life up here. I really hope some positive change can happen for south KC ❤

@@rubberduck2.0 you made a good move. I hope South KC can change too because it can be better than what it is. Things are definitely hit and miss. Seems like every other night there is something being reported on Ring. But thank goodness for it so ppl can know what is going on and be aware.

@@JustRoTv80Yea u are exactly right I lived out of state for a while moved back n moved in the Ruskin neighborhood… terrible is best way to describe it… so I moved to Grandview a yr ago and as of recent there has been a string of break ins and shootings and the city services are horrid! Crime going up in South KC n in Grandview, plans of new apartments in midtown and a lot of development in the city center n north side… CLEARLY GENTRIFICATION at work!

@hoodstarza.m.g5809 yes that's exactly what is happening. I Know yesterday I looked at Ring Neighborhood and saw that there were cops surrounding a house off Sycamore. It's sad when ppl come together on Ring Neighborhood in reference to crime going on .

Kansas city metro has twice the population as Omaha Metro first of all. Not the same population so there is that. Not apples to apples.

I thought the same thing. Atlanta has 3 times the population. Many solutions in Atlanta could be applied here. Most of those solutions would require state involvement in addition to local guidance.

Just look at the urban core where the vast majority of murders and shootings take place. KCMO pop is 508k to Omaha 485k.

@@KarlH1980 This past budget season, there was money given to KC's first pre-arrest diversion program (called R.E.A.C.H) which was proposed by community groups and modeled mostly after Atlanta's P.A.D. program. It's supposed to be in the Health department, but it hasn't actually launched yet. Hopefully we see the city continue to put resources into this kind of thing.

I used to live in KCMO. I had a problem neighbor. I broke up a fight between the mother and father in their front yard. I broke up the mother from strangling her teenage son in their front yard. I saw the police come and arrest people from this house multiple times and the cops tackle the mom when she lunged for a cop. I don't know what happened to the parents, but it seems the teen son became a young adult and was living there alone and seemed to be selling drugs from the house. One day, in broad day-light, on mother's day, a car peeled out from his driveway and sped away. The son came out of the house with a gun and shot at the car. We were in the front yard planting flowers at the time and ran inside. No one was shot, thank goodness. The cops came and collected the shells from the street, but didn't even come interview us. We moved away and were gone by the time of the court case. We were summoned to court as witnesses. When we got there we were told that the charges were dismissed in exchange for him turning in the gun. Why were we forced to take the day off of work, couldn't find parking nearby, had to walk blocks in the bitter cold to the courthouse, go through security, only to be told the charges were dismissed? Now we live in Overland Park. It's expensive, but at least we feel safe. I've got the cops called on me for letting my kids play outside. I've gotten the inspector called out for a garbage can on our driveway. These civil servants seem exhausted and apologetic about Karens constantly calling them over non-violations. But I'd rather have that than a city where criminals are allowed to walk free to commit crimes again and again and again.

when they are letting these persistnat offenders back on the streets they usually have a PFI on them, they just get arrested again for repeating the same crime and its usually always worse. operation legend is sending people with gun charges straight to the FEDs now. when i lived on st.john in northeast i was taking out the trash and 2 young boys were walking by, they pulled a gun and started shooting a box at the bus stop. we dont ever call the cops because what are they going to do...take a statement? im so use to it, it didnt phase me and thats not normal. the gun fire on new years is always the worst, you can hear bullets hitting off the house.

I’d hate to live under both conditions. Growing up near 72nd & metcalf was a lot of average working class people, not a lot of violent crime but also no karens.

This makes me so sad. Lived in KC from birth to 40. Left for 10 years and came back and it was not the friendly relatively safe place I knew.

How many of these kids are fatherless?? Throwing money at something doesn't mean it will fix it. Once the townhomes are built, watch how fast they are trashed. I believe a prosecutor who is more aggressive would help. Our prosecutor is weak.

The city should buy all the property surrounding 35th and Prospect and turn it into Senior Housing which is a huge need. And a grocery store. Pave it.

Sad that the areas deemed safe do not have trees and shading that other parts of KCMo have had historically. This part of the country is hot for 7 months of the year, and we must have trees, with watering regularly.

Eastside Kansas City has moved to the west side.Speeding unlicensed cars constantly being driven in an aggressive manner, gunshots mostly at night,constant theft and other property crimes. Black men are definitely over represented. It is a short distance from the call for reparations to a demand for luxury items. And when no accountability for crime is the norm criminals will run rampant. Removing at risk juveniles from toxic environments through boarding schools and saturating crime ridden neighborhoods with patrols and incarceration of dangerous people has been and probably will be the solution. A renewed respect for laws and the police; but the police have to be present and vigorous in enforcement.

It doesn’t matter what part of Kansas City metro we live it still effected our lives and our families and our daily living too. We afraid for our families as well. How we fix it as a community? A lot of time is in the families too, parents need to take care your kids, know where your kids and what they does who they hang out with? Government can’t fix every families problem, it also families problems that need to be fix.

Correct. Black pop of Omaha is only 11% compared to 26% in KCMO.

I believe if there is more activities for kids growing up. More guidance to get them ready for adult life. Responsibilities. Cause and effect. Different ways to show them they can actually make money, way more money doing legal things like opening your own business, sports (usually it be people with money that keep their kids in school after high school or sports.) graphic design, music. A lot of kids end up in violence because they don’t know better. They want to make some quick money maybe because parents can’t afford to help them so they try figure it out on their own and end up in the cycle of selling, robbing, shooting, going to jail or die.

KC PBS, the comparison between Omaha and Kansas City, MO is disingenuous. There are so many factors differing between the two cities. You can't just lump them together because the populations are close (just KC, and excluding the metro area). There are major political, economic, demographic, and industry differences in the two cities. Also, people always forget about I-70 and I-35 intersecting in Kansas City, making it a great spot for criminal trafficking activities.
