I remember reading a "Black Belt Magazine" interview with Kanei Uechi when I was a teenager. In the article, the writer was commenting on how natural and unforced Kanei's sanchin stance was - feet wider than "normal," with the front foot slightly straight. How refreshing to know that at the higher levels a person interprets form and kata according to understanding and not according to rigid concepts.

Christopher Winter A kata is not fixed or immovable. Like water, it’s ever-changing and fits itself to the vessel containing it. Kata are not some kind of beautiful competitive dance - but a grand martial art of self defense, which determines life and death. - Kenwa Mabuni

From what Ive seen... This is the best kanshu in youtube. Other are way to fast or way to slow, some without power. This one seems the most balanced one.

Is that you identify the mistakes but you didn't.

@@delight_xDD69as said before, I'm pretty sure sensei gushi's interpretation would have had more bearing as to claim he was making a "mistake" due to the fact that when he passed in his 80's he was one of the only surviving members of kanbun uechi's original students, much like the members of the shinjo family and I think their training would have been a lot more involved than anything that you would have practiced outside of okinawa. If you have ever seen footage of the old school training that martial artists in okinawa did compared to modern dojo, I think you may recognize that.

@@delight_xDD69I would highly disagree that the critisizm that you make would be wrong. The reason being because sensei shinyu gushi was a direct student of kanbun uechi or his son if I am remembering correctly. When he passed away in his 80's he was one of the highest ranking teachers in this style in okinawa. The level of physical fitness that he maintained until he passed was probably higher than the average american athlete.
