Actually it is being tested for the strength of the crane to be able to lift what’s its designed for because if you lift over the crane specifications you will have a very bad situation where the operator and or others will get hurt, injured or death so they test it for those very reasons and I believe your comment is incorrect that this is not about testing? Watch more videos about crane safety and unsafe operations and you will see how wrong you are

Mostly preparation, yet you can see flat stick at the end. It's a pity that I can't shoot the assembly of TY and luffing fly jib.

I would disagree. This is a service yard. After a hoist job big crains are serviced and reconfigured on some for different lifting jobs. Before being sent out they get fully assembled and tested. This gives them a chance to find mechanical problems as well as train the team to assemble the unit as a team. Some lifts might blockba highway or city street. So speed and precision is critical. Sometimes even getting fines if your over on time. It seems crazy but thats how it's done. We would even practice/test out grove crains before a lift. Let us check the cables and service the boom.
