We really do ! mainly it’s about suffering from stress which dramatically decreases levels of testosterone. Companies then just throw pharmaceutical pills at them and wish them luck. Also MDMA trials began a while back in the US causing the cure rate for PTSD to go from 14% when on anti depressants to 77% on MDMA

I couldn’t do what these guys do, these guys are true warriors with a mental fitness and strength most of us mere mortals can only wish for. I admire and respect them enormously for the sacrifices they have made and continue to make. They are a special breed, so glad we have people like this that are prepared to do the things they do to keep us safe. They do this with little or no public recognition, perhaps that’s right perhaps it’s not, we owe them a debt of gratitude that we cannot repay. I just wish I could buy them a drink to say thank you, it’s the least I can do.

my family was vacationing in fl about 15 years ago. i was 15. a british sub was anchored in port for some political meet & greet ceremony & the royal navy men were put up in condos on our floor. they were the greatest guys & although very polite & kind to everyone, you could tell they were rough & tough ( & a bit crazy) enough for any battle & living undersea for months at a time. the floridians were very patriotic & welcomed these soldiers with open arms & respect. bartenders & customers bought them drinks & restaurant owners picked up their tabs. the soldiers were in awe of their good treatment. 1/ they told us many brits looked down on soldiers as many of them were lower income, less educated rough kids. 2/they couldnt believe how beautiful florida was...the soft sand beaches, the warm & sunny weather, etc... they wanted to come live there after getting discharged. we invited them to dinner one night & then they insisted on taking my dad out drinking with them on their last night & my dad who got home about 3am told us he had to sneak out through the kitchen because they kept buying him shots & didnt want him to leave! & wow could they drink! lol. the next day we found a hms royal navy submarine hat on our door knob. it had the one of the guys name on it inside. my dad of course has the hat in one of his bookcases & when ever i see it, i think of them & wonder if they are all ok & if anyone of them made it back to florida. we have so much respect for our military from all our allies.

Btw first into action by Duncan falconer is an excellent detailed account of serving in the sbs. He mentions an exercise where 6 of them were dropped by Heli on an uninhabited Scottish island midwinter. Stark bollock naked. With a 20 metre roll of hessian, and absolutely nothing else, to be picked up in seven days time. Which I would guess is a fairly primal lesson in teamwork.

A lot of that process has changed now of course... Due to the UKSF, a lot more bed sharing.... The SBS have had to learn from Mobility Troop in early Iraq... a great read is Zero 6 Bravo.... the most violent engagement of the Iraq war, plus the deepest behind enemy lines incursion. and an equally impressive escape and evasion response..

My Uncle served 20+ Yrs in RM 42 Commando Poole...he became an Arctic Warfare Instructor and was promoted through NCO ranks to finally RSM (WO2).... I remember he was climbing the walls in 2001 during the build up to Afghan Invasion (as he was not long retired), but saw Many Conflicts; ranging from NI, Falklands (was landed 72 hrs prior to invasion as Recon Team, where he spent 3 days in a ditch, less than 100m from hostiles) through to Desert Storm (1991). I suspect he saw other action which was never Publicly known. He was My Idol growing up, he was "ALL go and no show" nothing like what you see nowadays.....He would not have stood for any cameras round him (Unless a Rupert had ordered it so)......Maybe it was Him J.M . shouting from the R.H.I.B

Quite funny you should’ve said that. If my memory serves me correctly, that was a clip from “Submarine”, a BBC documentary that was filmed in the early nineties. The camera man didn’t actually turn the camera of immediately and it very quickly went from being polite to “turn that fucking camera off now!” He didn’t have to ask a third time.

We should never EVER stop our military as training is what keeps us hard!

I went for RMR selection and my local unit just happened to be the SBS location in south Dorset. I’m not going to say exactly where because you find it out yourself. But I remember sitting In the guard house, waiting to be taken into the unit, and 3 guys in civis walked in and asked for rooms for a course. Just casual looking guys, really funny and they helped me relax before I went in for my interview for the RMR. Never ever found out who they were but given where we all were it’s not lost on me I was sharing a guard house with 3 absolute killers. Nothing but respect for these lads

Please try and get your facts right. Until 1987 the unit was called the Royal Marines Special Boat Squadron, but then the Royal Navy took full responsibility for the unit and it was renamed The Special Boat SERVICE. It's motto was also changed at that time from "Not by strength, by guile" to "By strength and guile".
