i always see taylor swift as her own genre. if you go on to listen to more albums, it’s country, pop, retro, but at the same time it’s all her own thing. her country isn’t like anyone else’s country; her pop isn’t like anyone else’s pop. SHE IS HER OWN GENRE. and for taylor swift fans, it’s not about the genre, it’s about the lyrics.

Taylor said this in a secret session (where she plays the album to her fans before it gets dropped) and apparently Dancing With Our Hands Tied was written by Taylor after she was spotted by paparazzi for the first time in months when she went on hiatus. She put on some healthy weight (after battling an eating disorder) and was spotted at the gym and the paps were shouting some really horrible things at her about her body. She then went to the recording studio, broke down crying, and then wrote the song about Joe and how she couldn’t think of putting him through the harassment that she gets from the media. She then tried to break up with him but he straight up refused and they’ve now been together for over three years. (edit: i never said i went to a secret session, i haven’t been to one, i read this from fact account posts of people who went to secret sessions and tumblr posts of secret session attendees and relayed it. keep getting called a liar for sharing info lol)

ALL SONGS REACTION TIME-PAUSES AND MY OPINIONS ~: 2:28 - Ready for it...? (about killing her old self and forgetting her old dead relationships) 5:09 - Endgame - Ft. Future and Ed Sheeran (it is a fun song and a banger at a same time with two one of the most amazing artists) 8:16 - I did something bad (about Calvin Harris, trust me I'm a great fan) 10:56 - Don't blame me (it is like Blank Space, but its an answer that she can do anything for her lover in every dark way) 13:07 - Delicate (my personal fav. like all the other tracks, I don't think I should explain what it is about, it tells itself❤❤❤) 15:10 - Look What You Made Me Do (do I need to tell anything, its clearly about Kanye and Kim but also Calvin Harris, one reference to Katy Perry also although they are friends now) 17:15 - So it goes (don't know what clearly it is about but sounds like its for Joe) 19:27 - Gorgeous (its about JOE, who else is that much gorgeous, sorry but for Taylor, no one else❤❤❤) 22:08 - Getaway car (its to Tom Hiddlestone, a kind of apology, a kind of story telling of what she was actually feeling in a beautiful form of metaphoric lyrics, I love this track so much!❤❤❤) 25:14 - King of my heart (its Joe, cause he is king of her heart❤❤❤) 28:22 - Dance with our hands tied (it is about her and Joe trying to get private at the time of Taylor's fall down, and break down and she met Joe, but the paparazzis keep on clicking their pics and she was scared that this relationship will also end soon, as Joe liked to be private and she thought because of her, he will not be able to be himself. Such a metaphorically emotinal and beautiful song!❤❤❤) 30:38 - Dress (such a rhythm, such a bridge, ❤❤❤) 32:36 - This is why we can't have nice things (about Kanye obviously, but in a total savage form, I was waiting for him to react on it😂) 34:58 - Call it what you want (honestly, one of the sweetest and heartwarming song I've ever heard❤❤❤) 36:55 New Year's Day (one of the most beautiful at the same time emotional song ever! I don't know what to say, its just so beautiful!! ❤❤❤) I love all of her albums individaully for some different reason, I can never pick my fav. Don't thank in comments, please.❤ I like the reaction.

Also, worth noting that he really didn't have an interest until after the phone call resurfaced and was so clearly edited in 2016. Fabrizio is now taking an interest; nice that he is open minded about it. A true "stan" wouldn't be able to do that. Possible some others will do that too. Funny thing is, she's done collabs with Kendrick Lamar(Bad Blood mv) Future (End Game) and B.o.B. (Both of Us) and a number of soundtracks for different things. And wrote the 2017 Country Music Song of the Year, even if she didn't record it (Better Man, by Little Big Town). A version of her singing that (acoustic) was in the documentary for the Bluebird Cafe. She's written a few other songs for others, too.

Fun fact : The Critics and media said that this Album would be flop but turns out this Album became the best selling Album in 2017-2018. And even untill now there's still no one Artist can beat her debut sales of this Album. Same with the Tour, the Critics and media said that no one would go to her concert tour but the fact is reputation stadium tour became the highest grossing tour in US history. Plus during the reputation era, Taylor be quite. There's no interview, she didn't go out to promote this Album. Even in that period of time, she's kinda against media.

@Kevin McCarthy That's what billboard said. Adele's 25 is basically all total units, while Taylor debut with only pure sales in fully streaming era. (Conclusion Tay & Adele rule the sales)
@natanaelravanal1434 жыл бұрын
Her power 💪🏼
@robertthompson72424 жыл бұрын
@Kevin McCarthy 25 had astounding sales, but there are a lot of differences. First, Adele and her label did a lot of promotion; Taylor didn't for this album. Also, technically, they weren't competing in the same year. 1989 was 2014, 25 (Adele) was 2015, reputation was 2017. Adele had two other studio albums prior: 19 sold ~26K the first week, ending up in 2016 at 3million. 21 started out slow (208K the first week) but has sold 30 million as of 2020. 2015's 25 not only sold well, but has sold over 22 million (2018 figures). It was likely 25's success that pulled up sales of 21, making that album her best seller overall. Her 2011 live album didn't do so well, though. 1989 was 2014's Album of the Year; 25 was 2015's AOY. Aside from that, though, Adele had that level of instant success only on one of her albums; since Fearless, Taylor has outsold everyone else in the industry every year she releases an album. Fearless was actually the best selling album for 2 years straight; and so was Reputation. Adele did super well on those two albums, but still has only sold some 120 million "certified units"; Taylor has sold around 214 million. It is worth noting though, that Adele has only put out 4 albums, and the live one only sold a million copies in the US; elsewhere, it didn't do any better than her first album.

“flashback when you met me your buzz cut and my hair bleached even in my worst of times you could see the best in me” Taylor and Joe met at the 2016 Met Gala but at the time Taylor was dating Calvin. Now in Getaway Car taylor says how she wanted to leave Calvin but she needed a reason. Taylor also met Tom Hiddleston at the Met and she was spotted dancing with him. She needed a reason to leave Calvin and Tom was her out, but of course it was never going to work out because they both rushed into things and the eventually ended up breaking up. In Delicate taylor says “my reputations never been worse so you must like me for me” because despite everything joe actually likes her. Despite everything that happened where she was “cancelled” and how the media portrayed her as playing the victim and a liar he still liked her because he knew the real her. Now they’ve been dating for almost four years and i just think it’s so beautiful because even though they keep their relationship private you can tell how much joe loves her by the way taylor describes it and the same for taylor. it makes me so happy she’s found that real kind of love and it makes you hope that you’ll have that kind of love. Especially if you listen to lover which is really good

You put it very well 🥺 I feel the same way too, for example her song 'Delicate' where the lyric says "This ain't for the best, my reputation's never been worst so you must like me for me" just makes the listener drop down connected to it because in the end, at least what I believe is that when it comes to love and relationship, we all just want a person to love us for who we are, the flaws and the good things they have to accept no matter what. It's not about appearance, not about successful jobs, just that person accepting us as a human being. Having that person to actually appreciate us as something special and precious for being who we truly are, that is one of the most beautiful thing anyone can do

fun fact: under 'Look What You Made Me Do' Taylor most probably meant: Look what you made me do, you made me change up the whole theme of my 6th album so that i could properly address what you have caused, when I was about to make a different album. This is an easter egg Swifties found from the music video about 2 years after the video's release, cause the plane she is destroying in that video has 'TS6' written very unnoticeably in a corner, while Taylor boldly sprays 'Reputation' all over it and paints the plane black. EDIT: Woahhh I've never had that many likes, thank you! Also this is just my and a few other Swifties' interpretation of the plane metaphore, that's why I said "most probably". :)

@minxymoo23254 жыл бұрын
No, this isn't true. Maybe Taylor had a rough draft for the 6th album but she was very clear in 2015: there would NOT be an album in 2016. She said in her NME interview in October 2015 she was going to take a break next year. She said she thought the world needed a break from her. She also told The Rolling Stone that she expected things to go bad because they always do when she has a good album cycle. Scott Borchetta confirmed in January 2016 that Taylor informed him she wouldn't be making an album in 2016-and that was before the Kanye drama happened. The album skip in 2016 was planned way ahead of the Kanye situation.
@TheLenna104 жыл бұрын
@@minxymoo2325 Hey, thanks for your insight. I was aware of that and you have a good point. However, in my comment I didn't mean that she definitely would have released an album in 2016 if *that* hadn't happened. My idea was exactly what you said, she might have already had a rough idea of her 6th album. Maybe she expected things to go bad, but I don't think she ever expected things to get AS bad, that she would get 'cancelled' by masses and that she would have wanted to disappear for an extraordinarily long period of time. That's why I think this theory still holds true, and is a genius one.

She likes to collaborate; sometimes she has the lyrics, sometimes some melody or music. But she works on all the lyrics, as well as the music. She wrote Speak Now alone, because most of it was written while she was on the extended tour she did for Fearless, either on a plane,a bus or a hotel room. I don't think the Fearless tour was over even 6 months before Speak Now came out. Also, some of the (male) critics said she was too young to know enough to write her own lyrics. I doubt any of the critics were paid songwriters at 14, though.

But, because she's a really smart business women, she's turning the situation that the media and people called her always playing the victim. And when people called her snake and she's making it into a symbol of this album, about the reputation that media and people portraying to her. I remember the hype when she's dropped LWYMMD. When she was getting slut-shamed for dating in 2010-2012, and being made the butt of jokes about boys, she turned it around and wrote Blank Space as a parody of the false image the media created . It turned out to be her best selling release at least up until 2017. To me, a lot of reputation was her bringing that mirror back out and putting it to work on the image Kim, Kanye and the twitterworld dumped on her. LWYMMD, TIWWCHNT, and IDSB are so over the top it is obviously her humor making fun of her critics, and giving her haters the finger.

The thing I love about this album is that she takes ownership of her flaws. In Getaway Car she says “Don’t pretend it’s such a mystery, think about the place where you first met me.” Basically saying, come on man, you can’t be all that surprised that I ended up having eyes for another man while we were still dating, because when we met I was dating someone else. She’s not claiming to be the victim here, she’s the thief. She started the heist with one man, but plot twist, she double crosses him and leaves him behind while she drives off with the money and another man. That takes balls to admit. In “Look What You Made Me Do” she says “Maybe I got mine but you’ll all get yours.” This indicates that she knew she deserved some one what she got, and had made mistakes and paid for them. This album is so fire I’m honestly shocked it didn’t get more recognition. The tour was INSANE. You should watch it on Netflix and also Miss Americana. “Lover” might be her best album to date...they’re all so different it just depends on what vibe you want.

actually getaway car is about how she basically used tom hiddleson as a getaway car because she wanted to leave calvin harris but needed a reason (literally the lyrics are "I wanted to leave him, i needed a reason") so Tom was her "reason." she's saying to Tom like are you honestly surprised that I'm leaving you now??? i literally used you as a getaway car how could you possibly think you and I would ever be a long term thing??? ("it's no surprise I turned you in, cause us traitors never win," "i left you at the motel bar, took the money and the bags and I stole the keys").

Was calvin harris abusive or toxic maybe? That she really wanted to run away?
@Loveallegra4 жыл бұрын
@@agnesgosali is it possible? sure. But I really think that Taylor would have said something. She wouldn't have named names, but she has never spoken about being in a toxic relationship, especially with the ongoing women's rights and victims speaking up movement. And don't you think she would've written a song along the lines of Halsey's "without me"? You know, like a "how dare you do this to me!? i cant believe I let you treat me like garbage for so long, but no more." Because she definitely has written songs like that before (ex. "dear john" from speak now). Plus in "getaway car," there are the lyrics "a circus aint a love story, and now we're BOTH SORRY." She never would be apologizing to Calvin if she were in an abusive situation, but she would apologize if she were admitting to using another man as an excuse to leave him. So, that's my guess but of course, all speculation.

Background information : 1. Ready for it, is about her current boyfriend Joe Alwyn 2. End game, how she wants to be in love but she had drama and all this media issue. This one also about Joe. 3. I did something bad, how media ruined her life along side with Kanye, and other people who's jealous about her own success. 4. Don't blame me, is also about Joe. And at the same time she wants to make this song like a gospel song. Plus how she realized that her exes only use her. 5. Delicate, is about how she fell in love with Joe but at the same time her name, her image is bad and terrible. She's afraid that he would sees her same like what media portraits her. That's how she slows down everything. 6. Look what you made do, this one is about all her enemies, they're cheers up when her reputation falling down. Thanks to kimnye situation! 7. So it goes, is about Joe. The plot of this song is a continuation of delicate. She told that she's a girl with a history but she also fall in love with him 8. Gorgeous, is about her first impression when she met joe. And the cats reference that she put on the lyrics are about her own cat "Olivia & Meredith". But that's also about her interview with media. They asked her after the awards party if she would go to her home with a lot of men, and she answered No, she rather go home to see her cats (Well even one of her cat owned 97M$ Net Worth). 9. Gateway car, is about her past relationship with Calvin Harris and Tom Hiddleston. 10. King of my heart = Joe 11. Dancing with our hands tied = Joe 12. Dress = Joe 13. This is why we can't have nice things is about kimnye drama. She used a childish style to this song as a reference about how she tired that this problem is never going to end since 2009. She said that it's not what adult would do! 14. Call it what you want, is about joe and you right about how her disappear. She received so many dead threads to her to her family. It's not even safe to stay in US, that's why she moved to UK. Because she knew there's nobody want to listen to her own side. 15. New year's Day, is also about Joe. She said usually people would kiss during the midnight while in her case, she and Joe just clean the bottle after the celebration. we believe this one happened during the time when the world hate her. Bonus : yeah since she's in relationship with Joe, everything in her life stay private. They've been together for more than 3 years. But there's no photo about their relationship on their social media. We only got a pic about them from paparazzi

Tinh Minh Linh Lol, Joe is the one who get close to Taylor when she still in relationship with Tom. So maybe they became a friend. Plus Taylor always use gold as the feeling of a true love. She described Blue = Gold, and Joe's favourite colour is blue and the only true love that she feels is just about her current relationship. Not to mention if you read the entire bridge of that song, she explained so well. "Flashback when you met me, your buzz cut and my hair bleach. Even in my worst time you could see the best of me.." especially that lyrics says a lot. True Swifties knew about met gala 2016 aka the first time she met Joe.

Dhara Barot yeah maybe. But if we also think more clearer she didn't really say I'm 25 years old. She's basically said "oh 25 years old", "oh how were you to know". So it could be about Joe since he's 2 years younger than Tay and according to the some sources she met joe when she was 27, so Joe is definitely 25. Plus the other lyrics also mentioned it "deep blue but you painted me golden".

Getaway car was about how she was trapped in a relationship she was trying to get out of and so she pretty much used another guy (her getaway car) to get out of it. Then she sings about how her relationship with the getaway guy is never going to work cuz they both moved too fast and were just doing it to getaway from something else. Basically she's saying how it was nothing but a rebound and that he never should've expected much cuz of how they met.

Fabrizio Salerno yess beautiful picture. With the sirens to the beat of your heart. I loved that. But i think the best part of that song is that she admits herself to be the traitor in the situation. The one who wronged her partner instead of the victim of the relationship. And how that also hurt her (she left crying and dying in the getaway car) It shows true growth as an artist. If you listen to The Archer from Lover she also refers to herself as “the archer” as well as the “the prey”.

On the contrary, Dancing With Our Hands Tied is one of the best tracks in my opinion. That nostalgic, hypnotizing, dark, bittersweet production and tune greatly amplifies the message of the whole album: finding and keeping love in the middle of the noise and chaos. One of the best lines in the album IMO is "I loved you in spite of deep fears that the world would divide us."

I absolutely adore the lyrics of DWOHT (the bridge is magnificent) but for me, the acoustic version sounds better than the studio version (the production makes it hard to get into it unless I’m in a specific mood) so I get what he meant
@shane243546covers4 жыл бұрын
Keren i loved the acoustic too! she turns the song into a bittersweet ballad sonically it makes me feel that warm sad-happy feeling (its hard to describe) but there’s just something about DWOHT’s studio production that makes it sadder for me 😩 like the what the beat is fast in the verses, which matches the subtle nervousness and frustration of the possibility of losing someone because of people’s opinion, then there’s the chorus which tones down the beat a bit which gives the feeling of swaying dancing dangerously and cautiously and finally the bridge where the instruments are drawn back and we hear the small notes 4 to 8 notes progression that makes it feel hopeless yet hopeful then the instruments draws back in building up to a finale that feels chaotic and frustrating which is the core message of this song and even this album: finding and keeping love through the chaos or maybe that’s just me 🤣 sorry I got carried away explaining my love for the studio version 😅

This album deserved a Grammy!! My thoughts about the first half of this album was her fighting back against all the drama and the negativity that she faced. While the last half is the Taylor that we have always known, writing songs about love and the whole album, like all of the rest of her albums, tell stories about her real experiences. "Reputation" is a dark album, but I am so glad she came back as strong as she did. I love Taylor!

The thing about this album is that everybody thought it would be all about the diss tracks and although there's a fair share of these, the album is about how despite how horrible her reputation was her true friends and her lover stayed and fell in love in her worst times. She didn't perform live this album (except the tour and some other exceptions) because she wanted music to tell the story, no interviews and almost no promotion from her part.

"Stabbed me in the back while shaking my hand" is 100% a Kim/Kanye reference. They made up in 2015, spent time together at award shows, Taylor complimented Kanye publically and presented him with an award. Only for the whole phone call, 'Famous' and "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex, Why? I made that bitch famous" things to happen the next year, for Kim&Kanye to betray her right after she forgave them, aka stabbing her in the back while shaking her hand :/

She wanted to get out of her relationship with Calvin and needed a reason. Hiddleston drove her GETAWAY CAR out of that relationship but it all became a circus. (They cheated on Harris as per media narrative.) Hiddleston wanted a siren on their relationship and Taylor wanted it to be on the down low. She saw GORGEOUS Alwyn while with Hiddleston and her thought was to get home alone with her cats instead of being with her boyfriend. Guess it's what made her finally getaway from Hiddleston. She and Alwyn became friends. Then, Alwyn tried to call her baby but she wanted proof that he loves her. He did and he became the KING OF HER HEART.
