"I don’t even care about the break up songs. Because it’s not like [they] sound redundant. It’s her expressing her artistry and appreciating the fact that yeah, this stuff happened in her life. Of course, everyone has their trials and tribulations. But she has a story and she has a picture [she’s] portraying to go with every single song that so happens to be a break up song. It’s about experience. They’re portraying messages, they're life lessons essentially." This is the intro of red: There's an old poem by Neruda that I've always been captivated by, and one of the lines in it has stuck with me ever since the first time I read it. It says "love is so short, forgetting is so long." It's a line I've related to in my saddest moments, when I needed to know someone else had felt that exact same way. And when we're trying to move on the moments we always go back to aren't the mundane ones. They are the moments you saw sparks that weren't really there, felt stars aligning without having any proof, saw your future before it happened, and then saw it slip away without any warning. These are moments of newfound hope, extreme joy, intense passion, wishful thinking, and in some cases, the unthinkable letdown. And in my mind, every one of these memories looks the same to me. I see all of these moments in bright, burning red. My experiences in love have taught me difficult lessons, especially my experiences with crazy love. The red relationships. The ones that went from zero to a hundred miles per hour and then hit a wall and exploded. And it was awful. And ridiculous. And desperate. And thrilling. And when the dust settled, it was something I’d never take back. Because there is something to be said for being young and needing someone so badly, you jump in head first without looking. And there's something to be learned from waiting all day for a train that's never coming. And there's something to be proud of about moving on and realizing that real love shines golden like starlight, and doesn't fade or spontaneously combust. Maybe I’ll write a whole album about that kind of love if I ever find it. but this album is about the other kinds of love that I’ve recently fallen in and out of. Love that was treacherous, sad, beautiful, and tragic. But most of all, this record is about love that was red.

I think The Lucky One is about how when you're famous, everyone thinks you're lucky because of all the "wonderful" things you get or how it's portrayed to be. However, there's a lot of pain/consequences/fear that come with that fame. It's basically a song about the downsides of fame, and she may be hinting that those who live a normal life should be considered lucky because they don't have to worry about looking perfect, or risk their secrets being spread all over the media, or any of the fears she has about being a celebrity. @@canuckkat yeah lol which is exactly what happened to Joni Mitchell thats why she has the lyric "they still tell the legend of how you disappeared...they say you bought a bunch of land somewhere, chose the rose garden over Madison Square." she used the story of Joni and how her own (Taylor's) hopes and dreams of being famous kind of had a backlash to show you have to be careful what you wish for because its not always what it seems.

Im so glad you got the Daylight reference in the first listen, I SCREAMED the first time I heard Daylight haha Something you maybe should know about Taylor’s albums, she had secret messages for each song and a beautiful prologue to set the tone of the album (she broke the tradition with reputation and lover) but the prologue in the red album is truly beautiful and deepens in the theme of red and golden love, I recommend reading them, they’re online! The Lucky One is one of my favorite songs on this album. It’s actually not about a relationship, but her struggle with fame. The first verse and chorus are about finally breaking into the industry and the chorus is saying that people say your lucky for making it. The second verse and chorus are about how everything is awful, press leaking personal info and maybe being replaced with someone else younger than you. The second chorus echos this by sarcastically stating that yah I’m the lucky one. Then in the last verse and chorus she sees someone escape the limelite and says because they got out they are the lucky one.

Ok so I'm not a Swiftie myself-I mean I definitely like Taylor's music a lot, but I feel that's important to mention so as not to discredit any die-hard fans who know her discography like the back of their hand. I think she's really sweet and has a good head on her shoulders. It was always so crazy to me the amount of hate Taylor used to get/still gets. Like, what do people want? Is it so hard to extend a bit of empathy and imagine what it must be like to grow up in front of the world? People who don't get that must be pretty closed-minded. She's sharing her experience, and at the end of the day she will be remembered for generations to come as a groundbreaking female in pop history for that reason. Her ability to tell a story while conveying the feelings that go with it through a melody and her lyricism surpasses any petty bullshit in the media. We're lucky that we have relatable, real music so that we can get through the same exact shit that she went through in order to write said music!! Rant over, lol Anyway, (if you made it this far) you should get into Lady Gaga! It would be so awesome to see you fall down that rabbit hole 😂 Love the reactions, keep it up!! 😊

Im loving your reactions to Tay! Im still on 7:56 of this one, but I need to say 3 things: 1) You are already checking all the classic boxes of becoming a swiftie: a) "She found the one!" while listening to NYD b) Said "So proud of her" during Lover c) Wondering who the song is about during 1989 d) "I love this beat"during 1989 e) Hearing "fake interview" during Style´s "fade in the view" f) Getting emotional over "The archer" g) Now getting emotional over "Red" h) Loving the Red- Daylight connection, and that brings me to my second point: 2) Now that you know about the Red quote on Daylight , I think you will be able to appreciate the fact that that bridge also reflects on another image you loved, "The rest of the world was black and white, but we were in screaming color", from your least fav on 1989, OOTW. Cause in Daylight she goes "And I can still see it all in my mind, I once believed love would be black and white (OOTW, 1989 era), but it´s golden... And I can still see it all in my head, I once believed love would be burning read ("Red" and i´ts era). So she is reflecting both on her love life and love missfortunes leading her to Joe and on who she poured her past ideas on love in her previous art. Masterpiece. (Also, the reference to color golden as a different type of love than red love comes from the Red album foreword. Yep, she writes forewords to each album. You could do a reaction on those, I would love it. ) 3) I would also love tho see you reacting to the other tracks on 1989 deluxe: "You are in love", "Wonderland", "New Romantics" (that´s going to be your jam when it comes to sassy Taylor, crazy beats and beat drops, trust me!) and the 3 songwriting voice memos.
