Let me run down how mainstream music works nowadays. Most mainstream music today is shit. Celebrities just stick to singing about the same 5 things, and the occasional fad topic (like butts in 2014). The only reason people listen to them, is because they're everywhere. They're in ads, on most radio channels, in waiting rooms, etc. The only reason these scumbag celebrities don't die in obscurity is that they intentionally create contraversy in order to stay in the news, reminding people that they exist, and make catchy, but mediocre/bad music. This event with Kanye was just another publicity stunt. Picasso is famous, and so is the person who defaced his painting.

I've listened to ever one of those albums up for the award and Beyonce was no doubt the best one, Sam Smiths was second. Becks album was dry and boring, the fact that he wrote all of it and plays a lot of instruments means nothing in terms of how good his album was. The Grammys have historically been racist in there award givings. Black people do not win the top 3 categories it very rare to see and that's why I think Kanye said "we're not going to play with them anymore". I believe Kanye's little stunt was more an indictment of the Grammy's long time rejection of Urban culture with the refusal to acknowledge any popular Hiphop/RnB figures(Tupac, Notorious B.I.G.,Public Enemy, Snoop Dog) with their award in favor of more culturally "neutral" artist such as Macklemore. I believe it had absolutely nothing to do with Beck but more a result of that built up animosity over the years. Beyonce is a performer not an artist. She creates very little if any of her own music and really only excels at dancing and lip syncing. She has a million ghost writers and plays no instruments. USAPower What i meant by new era of hip hop meaning that hip hop itself is changing and will transcend. I feel that Gambino has the opportunity to lead that shift into whatever its going to be . I could be totally wrong about this as times and things change. But i'm just going by what I see and feel now. It will be interesting when Gambino decides to make a commercial album that splits it 50/50 with artistic integrity and commercial nuance. We've heard that from the other 3 do it and while they have influenced I don't feel that heavy impact had happened yet. But like I said this is just my opinion on things and times and things can change to where this all sounds totally crazy and wrong.

What really stirs me up over this are all the people hating on Beck now. The guys makes great music and I've been a fan ever since I saw the video for his song "Pay no mind (snoozer)" off the Mellow Gold album played on Beavis and Butthead way back in the 90's. Go to any Beck video and they are now plagued with all these types of people hating on the poor guy. This whole grammy thing seems more like a curse and I wouldn't want that to happen to me despite selling more albums now than ever. In the end though, at least he is making more money for his music. Mellow Gold, Odelay!, and Sea Change are some of the best albums the guy has ever done.

Also, writing credits can be kinda sketchy: you can get writing credit for literally writing a title for a song. I think that Beyonce probably wrote the vast majority of her songs and had help. And maybe Beck DIDNT actually write all his songs but just never credited people that helped. Hmmm.

It's not that he has an opinion that differs from that of the grammys. It's that he was going to display it at the very moment that you shouldn't. Getting a grammy for Album of the Year is the most pivotal moment in a musician's life. I'm sure it wouldn't be half bad if you just took to Twitter afterwards. Been a fan for years, seen him in concert 3 times (3rd time the Flaming Lips opened for him), and any exposure to new listeners he can get is a good thing. I knida wish kanye did do it again but i face palmed when he wanted beyonce to win. I wanted Sam Smith or Ed Sheeran to win. Sorry if this is irrelevant but I just wanted to say that in my opinion you shouldn't put games such as deadspace in the background while you are talking since for me at least it's really really distracting.
