I had one when I was a kid, I rode the heck out of it without ever a single problem. Honda' XR back then were gutless slugs. Four stroke technology back then was primitive. The sound of the engine brings back memories...still familiar after all this time.

I have the exact same bike. It sounds exactly the same and starts on the second kick cold. 1974 as well and in good running condition and shockingly everything that is meant to be there is still there. I would love to restore it as original as possible. Its good to know there are people to call to still get parts.

I had mentioned before that as a teen; back in the early 80s, I use to spend a lot of time at a local Honda shop just salivating over the CRs and XR bikes, but could never come up with the cash to buy one. However, my mother managed to hand over $300 to buy a used bike; a 1974 Yamaha DT175 -- this very same model and color -- not running, but with a bit of weekend lawn work, we got it running; however, not registered... but I didn't care at the time. This bike got me plowing through dirt trails and it ran like a rough bat out of hell. Then a throttle cable break and a new OEM part replacement that wasn't, but roughly an inch and a half too long, and where a Bic pen had to be improvised to fill the place. Then, I cracked the crank case clean open; managed to find a replacement part, then snapped the kick starter in half and got that replaced and fixed. But then discovered that the clutch rings where worn out and the pressure plates cracked and destroyed. Then an electrical problem, and then the bike just sat around a bit until our property manager made me a deal to buy it. I parted ways with the bike for $50 out of desperation. And then, about a few months later, the manager showed up on the bike looking brand new. Urrrggg!!! Well, it was a lot of fun when it ran and worth every penny I put into it. But it needed a new owner that loved it more than I could care for it. Oh, yeah; and this bike gave me the very first ticket... non-registration, no license, and riding a passenger on the back - $70 bucks that my mother paid out, and her then making me regret it. Honestly though; those were some great times. In my opinion; this is still a great bike to own and use on mountain trails and back roads; this bike is on my 'bucket list' too - can't wait to get another.

Had a 1979 DT175, to commute . Bike just before it was Suzuki GT750 Water Buffalo. Some Different! Both great bikes.

That bike is in immaculate condition for as old as it is! Looks & sounds just like my cousins old DT100 he used to have! Thinking back at it, I believe he owned 1 of every Yamaha made! Lucky Bastard! LOL. He used to weigh over 300 lbs. at 6'4 & he would ride that bike up the steep bank behind his House. He never could quite reach the top from a good run n' go but I guess being 300 + pounds had a bit to do with it! Sounds & looks identical to his only his was orange with pin striping. Not sure what year his was. I sure do love these old bikes! Brings back the good ole' days for sure! 👍

That bike sounds like the top end is ready to take a dump. My dad bought me a brand new one in 75. It was a great bike, much faster than the later DT 175 Monoshock modelos. The day I gutted the exhaust completely is when it really woke up. I remember I put a 180 main jet in it, came stock with a 160. The manual called for a .002" piston to cylinder clearance but you were best putting at least .0025" - .003" clearance on them. Real prone to seizing if you set them up too tight. They also stuck that dyke ring and the second ring with the expander regularly if you didn't use good oil. Also the centrifugal advance in the flywheel would wear out and cock sideways and stick at full advance and you had to by the whole flywheel to get a new advance mechanism as it wasn't sold separately. But all in all I loved that bike .

In honesty gentlemen I think its a thing of beauty.For me there's a type of magic in the old enduros the DT in particular that the modern day bikes don't have.I love the circular headlight and clocks on this model.Does the 175 Model have rear passenger pegs or was it just intended for a single rider? I know the newer 125 Dt models did.There just a solid all round bike.Years ago I owned a DT 50 one of the early 1990 models I think.Man I loved that bike.Its what I learned to ride on.Thanks for the upload men brought back good memories 👍🏼👍🏼

I have a 1975 DT175 that I purchased when I was 14. I put on the rear pegs after the first year of ownership. I still have the bike and hope to get it running again some day.

My 74 had passenger pegs rarely used em she was used as a all around Dirt bike passed down from my dad grandpa bought it new off the showroom floor for my dad for his first dirt bike

Only criticism is that 73 was the first year of the reed valve. CT3 era for the 175
