I have just the regular terrain blind. Not the archery one. I used spray foam and air conditioner window seal around the door. Sealed it up very well. Mounted it to a trailer and it works great!

We have Hughes Blinds that are almost identical to this blind on our property. So far we have 4 of them up and just bought 3 more. We used two by fours to frame up the insides and they hold their shape great. In the winter we do put braces in them to help with heavy snow loads if we aren't hunting in them. We have been using them for several years and not had any big problems. The windows do leak a little with rain, but I have heard the 3,000 dollar blinds have leaking windows as well. Great budget friendly blind.

Good call on the framing it really helps a lot! We don't have much snow here, but glad you are getting out in the field on a decent budget!! I've had both the expensive and more affordable ones. As long as it gets you out in the field!

I purchased a blind very similar to this from Menards. It's a Booners blind and was around 600. I did some things inside though that helped keep the form of it. I built a rest throughout the inside with a 2x4's that keep the shape

Yeah that is really what's needed for these cheaper blinds but I imagine once you do that they can work quite well..?

I bought and set up this blind in an elevated position a couple years ago. I have the same problem with the smoothness of the vertical bow windows opening and closing due to each panel sagging somewhat causing the window to bow. I added two steel shelving tracks to each panel to try to reinforce and straighten each panel. This helped a little, but the vertical windows still tend to stick. The horizontal gun/xbow windows open and close very smooth and quietly. Not a bad blind overall, but definitely not watertight as you stated in the video. Plenty of room for myself and even enough room to bring my 11 year old daughter with as well. I've also used a my Mr. Heater Buddy Heater in the blind which works really well on cold days. Overall, not a terrible blind, but not sure if i would ever purchase a second one.

yeah, agreed. But for the cost it is about the cheapest you can get to get out of the weather, so with that in mind, its not all bad. Thanks.

I think I did a follow up on this after the season, and yeah it did not fare too well either! But it is definitley a 'budget' blind, that can at least get someone out of the wind, rain and snow. You can buy 4 of these for the price of a better blind. Just food for thought on that aspect anyway. Thanks

Interesting and candid review. I installed a Hughes "Intruder" blind on a stick built stand. Blind plus freight was about $850. The footprint is 48 x 48 inches with 3 arched window on front and both sides...made from ridged thermoformed plastic material. Mine is located in a tree protected area but still have similar issues with water/snow leakage through walls. Big problem is the roof that is not stressed to accept heavy snow loads and must be supported with 2x4 over the winter...located in extreme northern Wisconsin. I will look into the suggested Rubbermaid shed conversion...good idea

I have had wooden blinds which are heavy and prone to weather issues (high winds and water damage that I have replaced with much a cheaper and weatherproof option. Rubbermaid and Suncast vinyl 7'x7' sheds double walled and more sturdy. Cut your window slots of choice and put 1x4 wood frames inside and out, wood shims inside the the inner and outer walls for support, spray foam the gaps and install deerview windows. The sheds on sale prices around $450, windows a little over a hundred bucks. These are my condo blinds and easily accommodate 2 and 3 hunters. Great for the grandkids.

For what they're getting for blinds here around the Michigan capital it might be worth buying a bunch of them and flipping. They're selling a 5x5 for $600. There's a place maybe 5 miles from me that is selling an octagon for $1300 with no windows. Their square 6x6 is 1k also with no windows. I am planning on building a 5' platform to put it on to get me off the ground. I have a nearly endless supply of untreated lumber from work but I think treated will last better.

I looked at numerous and they want a whole lot more from other companies. I looked this box blind up on the internet and there's a sale form a place called "Blain's Farm and Fleet". $794 w/ S/H for my zip code. Blair's Farm and Fleet also has hunting blinds without the long bow windows and it's called "The Terrain Range Hunting Blind" . Currently OUT of STOCK and cost $506 (prior to S/H). Looks like you put a heater in your blind. Love the review. Later Kap. Say hey to Mrs Kap.

Did you ever decide to add more 2x4’s for bracing on the inside? I bought The Range blind, which is the same thing but with only horizontal windows, and I was thinking about framing the inside on bottom, and then going up from the corners with verticals to another 2x4 frame just below the windows. Do you think that would give it more stability or just be a waste of time and money?

Will see what shape it is when gets here but I literally am going to use it as an outhouse at a primitive campground. Put a toilet seat on a bucket and pack the poop out in a plastic bag iall for less than 150 investment. It’s not the same unit as here only has higher small windows but fine for my use. Will fab up a little ground pedestal to sit it all on hopefully can screw it down somehow. Like I said will see what I get for 79 bucks.

@Chris.B11115 жыл бұрын
If you don't mind spending 500 to just under 1k might as well build one out of wood. Could have a mini cabin for that much. I would save yourself some money on treated lumber for that platform and harvest trees from your property. I priced out treated timbers at 16ft long and they are each $50ish. That's $200 just to have 4 posts in the ground. I know weight is an issue if you want to move the blind but most box blinds are permanent.

I’m looking to build my own soon and wanted to add bow windows. Do you have any suggestions on the size for those windows? I’ve never bow hunted from a box build. Also what size for a two person would you consider?
@kapperoutdoors5 жыл бұрын
When I built my own they were minimum of 6'x6' with a 6' 6" ceiling so you could draw a bow in them. My best thought is to sit on a chair and have your bow and pretend to aim downward and make the windows low enough so that you can shoot over the bottom. Usually 12" to 18" height is good. I've used old house/garage windows and slide them sideways. Build each wall separate and then you can haul them up one at a time. Just be sure to have extra room on the deck (like 8' x8' is nice) so you don't fall off putting it together up there! Good luck! Holler if you get one built!

interesting--I have run into this sort of thing before,,if the manufacturer had just put a little more work into an item, it would be great. so , as you said, you can do a better job of fastening the blind to the base, you could insulate it to make it dryer , you add your own curtains .NOW , can you add a couple of small hinges on the long windows to make them close better ? your just dealing with plastic, so it seems you could...you shouldn't HAVE to, but to make a product function........
@kapperoutdoors5 жыл бұрын
lol, all so true! A little more 'real world' product testing! You'd have to be careful with the windows for sure, but yeah, you sure could fix this thing up and make it twice as good! Then it would be a really great setup for the cost.

Great video and some funny comments. I have got to ask, since no one else will. Was there a reason you could not of pushed blind back further on stand, so there would be like a landing to have room to put your gear and open door rather than being on top of ladder or squeezed on little landing to open door? I have never seen you open door from outside, but it looks like it really close to ladder? Just Curious?
@kapperoutdoors5 жыл бұрын
I usually center them only to have room on the outside in case we need to stand out there to attach blind to floor. Also, I try to make them without a landing so you walk straight in from the top step, but a person could do it either way, a 'landing' sure could work too. thanks
